It is true that some scouts believed that Laine may have turned out to be the better player over time. I know one of them who did. But the large majority of scouts felt differently & no matter what Matthews was the unanimous consensus to be the first overall pick & this had already been pre-determined two years prior to the actual draft. One member of the media i spoke with told me that some members of the media started that rumor (that Laine could go first) in order to stir up some interest towards the draft. However truth behold once the lottery was completed & Toronto had won the lottery it was 100% assured that Matthews would get picked first. 100% of scouts, GMs & media were well aware that Toronto’s only intention was to draft atthews with their first overall pick. They had no interest in Laine. Laine wasn’t even #2 on their list. They wanted & needed a center & that’s why they gave away Phil Kessel & Dion Phaneuf: in order to draft the big centre who was the only generational player in the draft.

My prediction: If Patrick Laine continues to play well & score goals (and stay healthy) the Habs will trade him this season prior to the trade deadline. Reason? His trade value will mever be higher than it will be by then & they have no intention of re-signing him in 2026.

You are forgetting that days or weeks before the 2016 NHL Draft, Laine had a HUGE World Championships and won MVP. Many scouts interviewed at that time said he turned heads and had given everyone pause about who the #1 pick really should be. Prior to that performance Laine was seen as a distant second choice to Matthews, but the Laine performance had stunned the hockey community. I specifically remember the Laine supporting scouts saying that Matthews had not distinguished himself on the world stage as Laine had just done at the Worlds. I think Toronto had already made up their minds to take Mathews, but once that happened Winnipeg pounced on Laine.

Oui en effet un très bon tireur/ snipper....MAIS peut jouer aussi de façon nonchalante et tomber dans des léthargies douloureuses ..lolll....l'ai pris souvent dans mes pools dans le passé....et me suis dit plus jamais.....à lui de regagner notre confiance...on ne demande

C'est pour ça que je reste sur mes gardes avec lui. Mais à date, tout nouveau tout beau. Il compte et le monde l'aime. En bonus, il ne s'est pas encore reblessé.

De son propre aveu il ne joue pas bien, ce qui n'est pas tout à fait faux même s'il est un peu dur avec lui-même après tant d'inactivité.

On verra à moyen terme avec le grand Laine!

Injuries didn’t help of course but he also has had to deal with a problem between the ears last season. Hearing he hasn’t been the same person since his father passed away. Surprisingly i think the best place for him to be right now is Montreal where he’s getting the ice time he needs & powerplay time. On a better team he likely wouldn’t het all the opportunities he’s getting in Mtl. And so far the fans seem to really like him so no matter how he performs he’ll likely won’t need hearing any boo birds. This season, anyway.

Last night’s debacle is what happens regularly to a team playing for a coach who runs a country club atmosphere. There is no accountability. Nobody gets benched after repetitive bad plays. Nobody gets benched for repeatedly not putting in a reasonable effort. A player with a lot of heart like Mike Pizzetta hasn’t played in two years. The team starts panicking after consecutive goals and the coach looks like a zombie & never calls a time-out to calm the team down. The captain shows up for the postgame press conference & like his coach looks indifferent. DO YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE COACHES LIKE PAUL MAURICE, PATRICK ROY, JOHN TORTORELLA AND CRAIG BERUBE WOULD PUT UP WITH THIS BULLSHIT??

Again l'indiscipline nous a tué...ça semble bien difficile à comprendre.......le retour de SAVARD nous démontre à quel point on ne peut pas s'en passer......mince consolation HUTSON enfin marque son 1er but.....MAIS là s'arrête les réjouissances.

En effet, 6 punitions dans un match c’est beaucoup trop, surtout pour un club comme le CH. C’est un des facteurs mais c’est un peu dommage car ce soir, les jambes et la vitesse y étaient. Ça compétionnait et on sentait la volonté plusieurs.

Pour moi l’autre facteur a été le manque de précision des passes, beaucoup de jeux sont morts dans l’oeuf à cause de ça.

Et btw faut trouver ASAP un second gardien qui peut faire la job.....SAM joue toujours sous une impression IMMENSE --ce n'est pas mauvais en soi---MAIS il y a quand même une limite....on doit ABSOLUMENT lui trouver un allié qui pourra lui permettre de relaxer
un peu et qui inspire confiance...ça le soulagerait énormément.....IMO c'est la priorité actuelle.

C’était p-e pas la meilleure idée de se débarrasser de Jake Allen aussi rapidement. Me semble que c’était déjà évident que Primeau avait plusieurs failles.

Veteran backup goalie, top 6 centre, two right-handed defencemen & a true NHL coach or at the very least an experienced associate coach would be on my shopping list. Not only is the current coach lacking in coaching experience but he runs a country club atmosphere where there is no accountability for mistakes & lack of effort. Why does he hate Pizzetta? At least he works hard! And the big long term contracts to unproven young players handed out by the inexperienced GM haven’t helped. Finally getting rid of Jake Allen, Danault, Lekkhonen, Romanov & Kovacevic were big mistakes.

Je pense que Laine est le roi incontesté du "one timer", de toute la LNH il doit sûrement avoir le plus haut % de réussite. Très impressionnant mais il faudra qu’il soit plus intense à 5 vs 5.

Dach, avec un temps d’utilisation quand même limité (+/- 13 minutes), a fait prendre 3 punitions aux Sabres, c’est un signe d’implication et il doit continuer avec son échec avant. Je n’ai pas encore lancer la serviette dans son cas.

Mine de rien, Arber Xhekaj a joué 20:18 minutes hier, MSL le récompense pour sa constante amélioration. Tout un contraste avec son début de saison, on peut commencer à rêver d’un solide défenseur #4!

Barron vs Carrier

Je pense que cet échange permet au CH de se rattraper grandement sur la transaction ayant mené au départ de Lehkonen. Carrier est considéré comme un solide #3 ou 4 par plusieurs experts. Étant droitier, et presque 250 matchs LNH, une moyenne de 20:00 minutes par match, il devient automatiquement un pilier de notre brigade défensive, pas le choix!

L’échange de Lehkonen comportait aussi un choix au repêchage qui, au final, a amené un certain Michael Hage. Un centre droitier, 18 ans, un des "prospects " les plus prometteurs pour Montréal. Si Hage se développe au niveau décrit par tous les recruteurs, Hughes pourrait avoir frappé un coup de circuit!
