I don't understand what you're referring to. I know lots of anglos who were born here, who have limited or no French, and I've never heard them say they had trouble finding jobs. I worked for an airline and people were transferred from Ontario and BC all the time and they didn't know French. All meetings, emails, documents were in English, so there was no real need for French. However English was mandatory. I mean, if you're going to deal with the public or if a company operates in French, then it would make sense that you'd have to speak it.
Companies require that their employees speak English too. My mother worked for a pharmaceutical company. When she was promoted to a position that required dealing with almost exclusively American doctors and travelling to US hospitals, she was extremely lucky that they wanted her in that position and paid for private English lessons. But in normal circumstances, they would have considered only applicants who spoke English & skipped those who only sole French.
What law are you referring to that has to do with Trudeau? I'm aware of what Legault been wasting our money on but I don't understand how Trudeau has anything to do with this provincial crap. So that part is what's confusing me about your comments.

I know people who work in warehouses, not dealing with the public, and get warnings for talking English at work while any other ethnic group is allowed to speak their given languages.. Politics has everything to do with the English issues in Quebec. There are French only phone machines now when you call government offices, and even warnings on the Quebec revenue site that will inform you that unless you have an English certificate in your name threw the government, they wont even provide your government information to you online in English. Politics in Quebec is on the rise to push out English entirely if they could... and most English born and raised I know are living on welfare unable to find a job because unless it says French on your c.v. workplaces aren't willing to give you the time of day... over the last few years there have been many new language restrictions in the Quebec laws to suppress English people. And apparently French's reach on all of Canada is a political headache preventing anyone who isn't perfectly bilingual, Canada wide, from being part of politics even outside of Quebec...

I worked for an IT shop in St-Laurent. There could be 12 french speaking attendees (et pas nécessairement de souche) in a meeting. if only one couldn’t speak french, we we’re all speaking English.
That is stupidity.
Each time I was pissed off inside. Couldn’t say anything because I was scared to be depict as a racist or as a méchant separatisssse

My French unfortunately was never that great but like you said all specifications were in English and only slight changes from the original US versions and all suppliers throughout the world communicated in English.
English has become the business language of the world whether people like it or not, without it you have zero chance for a high income internationally.
For me the more languages you speak the better off you are. I am completely bilingual unfortunately French is not one of them, I can get by on the street or in a restaurant and reading and understanding is not bad but speaking was always difficult and was never easy because when I try people answer me in English lol.
i managed 37.5 yrs
my french oral is ok witten not good at all
i have no problem speaking french to anyone..unless they are an asshole!
