I generally hate helping out with money usually, especially when it could be larger amounts. Somehow I have an affinity to attract scammers.
I got approached by that designer guy who needed money to pay off his rental and would give me free designer clothes lol. I also got approached by the stomach tumor guy a couple times. That one was real convincing though, and felt bad. He asked for money for prescription which costs a lot. Told him I will go with him to pharaprix/uniprix and buy him the medication myself instead of cash. He stormed off.

I would say less than 10-15% are in desperate need, most are scammers or need money for booze or drugs.
^^^^^^^ Ditto. Tough part is figuring out the real ones. I give to the well aged, the young kids can get a job.
There was a well dressed kid (16-17) that would that would hang out at Sherbrooke and Langellier last summer doing the squeegee thing. When you tell him not to wash the windshield he would do it anyways and then demand money. He would only be there from 10AM to noon and then disappear for the day to relax with his friends. I am sure his parents would be ashamed if they saw him begging/extorting like that in the streets. I only give to the truly needy.
