Actually, upon further reflection, Chuck Heston wasn't such a bad guy & my previous comments were undeserving. I take them back. After all, he was the main actor in several of my all-time favorite movies back in the golden age of moviemaking. As for him being the voice of the NRA over the past decade, oh well....why would it bother me that much? I'm not an american resident, after all. So i'll let it go, even though i don't agree with his political views. I did like him as Jason Colby of "The Colbys".....so i guess i don't dislike him as much as i've shown. Knowing he was suffering of Alzheimer's in his final years must have been devastating both to him & his family. Sad.

Goodbye, Chuck.....may you win one more chariot race against Messalah up there in heaven, if there is such a thing.

Now one might not agree with Heston's politics but I find some of the comments in this thread rather disturbing if not downright despicable...
Well JB,

Inexcusable! Such bitterness for someone who never did anything personally to one is just plain ugly.

Really,

Completely forgetting how you treat Yankee fans and players who to the best of anyone's knowledge never did anything to you.

An Era Has Ended

Did not want to post until some of the bile had left the thread.

To someone growing up in the fifties Charlton Heston became the face of the epics. The films have been listed previously.

Could not afford to go see the films down town so I had to wait until they were offered for $0.10 Friday night at the Boy's Club. Movies featuring Charlton Heston drew the biggest crowds.

Remember taking a date in high school to see "Planet of the Apes". Both of us actually watched the movie.

Politics aside - thanks for the memories. R.I.P.

Hello Doc,

Of course you know the difference between sports rivalry and the heartlessness of calling for someone who just died to "burn in Hell".
Really Doc, I don't understand the bitterness from you. But, c'est la vie.

Right,

Korbel

Hello Doc,

I had my own very bitter feelings about his NRA association. I felt betrayed. But, he was a person not a souless marble idol. So I remembered him for what his acting and his films brought...MAGIC!

Here's to you Chuck

Someone once told me he believed he had appeared in a porn movie once. Not sure if it was a cameo or not. Not sure if it was gay porn or straight. Anyways, has anyone ever heard this? If true, which movie was it? I was told it was about a roman emperor or something similar.

I have to agree with you. As a matter of fact, i'm dedicating next Thursday evening to John Carter a.k.a. Charleston Heston. It will be the Charleston Heston Film Fest in my home on that night. I'll spend the evening watching "Big Country", "The Omega Man", "The Three Musketeers" (the one where he played Cardinal Richelieu), The Ten Commandments & Ben Hur, which is one of my all-time favorites. I decided not to watch "Earthquake" since it was way too long & Chuck dies at the end....i still cry when i see it again. By the way, didn't he play in a movie where he plays an NFL QB?

I couldn't have said it any better. Some people write stuff here about dead people thinking they're actually reading this stuff. Which, of course, initiated my sarcasm. But only SK got this.
Hello Doc,

The presumptiuon that anyone is writing to be heard by the dead is silly. It's the character of the living that matters. The venom that was spilled here against the dead won't be heard by him either. So this sad display was also for the living, and if it was humor then some of the living find it despicable. That's just my opinion too.

Cheers,

Korbel

Oh well, i've always found this board to be a good place to vent some of my frustrations with daily life. This thread isn't the exception to my rule, whether the persons being discussed are dead or not. If I don't agree with the way some dead people misbehaved while they were alive, i'll be the last person to put them on a pedestal just because they happen to be dead. For me, being dead is simply one of life's processes & doesn't necessarily mean people have achieved hero status upon their death & that their past misdeeds should be forgotten & given a free pass.
