I am not going to debate which vaccine is better, if given the choice I would have preferred the Pfizer or the Moderna just because of the better efficacy and apparently better response to the South African and Brazilian variants.
If studies will show that a second dose of Pfizer is ok and works well I will try for that.
At the same time I would make the same decision again, it is far better to be vaccinated with the Covishield than to not be vaccinated at all.

I agree. Vaccine snobbery is now a thing despite people not even understanding what efficacy really means. BTW, a study in Scotland showed less hospitalizations and deaths within a population of millions with AstraZeneca.

To me, the best vaccine is the one that will get the largest % of the WORLD population vaccinated. Because one can take some ladida vaccine just to get whacked 9 months later by a variant from Swambobia because they didn't get vaccinated.

The world needs to get vaccinated or we will start over

Just for hoots, look at the difference between the RNA vaccine you got and the viral vector vaccine he got, how long each has been around, how each interact with your DNA and tell me who the Guinea Pig is :)
Make no mistake here, Fradi is a hero for stepping to the plate for his fellow Canadians, and your post does not change that status. If he ends up dead of Covid between now and July 1 and gets the gypsy band funeral, maybe he should also get a 21 gun salute from the Canadian military. Let's face it, there are no actual studies, Guinea Pigs were going to be needed for that Covishield vaccine, and he decided that he would be one, even while waiting to get full protection. In my case, the stats based on actual trials are in my favor. I will get my second Pfizer dose April 17, and I will be deemed fully vaccinated and good to go out into the Covid world on May 1. He needs to hang on 2 months longer, and he is older.

Right now there is a travel advisory on Canada issued by the CDC. This is deadly serious, dude, a Level 4 alert, and Level 4s are rare:
CDC only takes that step when there are very serious health risks posed by travelling which in this case is the variants that are "rolling" through Canada. Fradi is in effect in a war zone and he has been left with a single gun that has only 2 bullets in it. That's the analogy here. He, and we, have to hope it's enough ammo to get him to the July 1 finish line.

Really ? There were no studies or trials on AstraZeneca ? You really believe this ?

Gallantca- See the post below
Not according to most experts, they are saying that with the Astra Zeneca especially a longer period between shots actually increases the efficacy although there has not been any actual study yet. We will see, it is not that we have any other option this is what our government and health experts have decided.
This man is putting his ass on the line for you and your other fellow Canadians still in the dark on this issue.

My understanding is that the 120 day interval is not study driven but supply driven. There is not enough vaccine to go around and Fradi and others are wading into untested waters. Frankly none of the studies envisioned people would need to wait that long.

They are trying to vaccinate as many as possible and basing it on other vaccines that historically can have a second dose administered 3-4 months later. Time will tell if they are right. It makes sense considering that we do not have a enough vaccines so this is the best option, I agree with it, it wouldn’t be right for me to get two doses and have someone 5-10 years younger than me get none and end up in a ICU or even dying.
We all suffer for a while and are at risk because our glorious leader JT fucked up with not having a manufacturing facility in Canada and not procuring enough vaccines in time.
I don’t blame the US for hoarding vaccines until all their citizens are vaccinated, I would do the same in their place. You take care of your own first.

No, it was a study. The study came AFTER the UK made the decision based on interim data.
Just like some countries made the decision to single vaccine with Pfizer. The studies came after but they are there now.
Things are pointing in the direction that double doses will be done in time.

It is not such a big deal, before my first shot I managed to survive for over a year, right now my odds of not getting the virus is somewhere between 65-75% will improve after the second dose and not ending up in a hospital or dying is pretty much equivalent to being vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna, so I consider myself lucky.
Actually I am luckier than most as I have been able to see an amazingly gorgeous young lady for quite sometime with relative safety.

Look behind you.
I don't know why I asked you this question, I knew the answer.
I look at numbers, I see that I have met / worked with probably 2,000+ people in the last year, I only know of one person who has caught this, I know no one who died from this. My life has not change except for the pub / restaurant shutdowns which keeps me from going out and seeing people I know and listening to bands. My kids are the same and from no influence from me as their friends are the same. Do not believe in any conspiracy theories but believe the politicians have their heads up their ass.

BTW, today, Michigan, NewYork and Florida have more cases in each state than all of Canada. They may to issue more travel advisories.
You are not looking carefully at the data. It is the younger crowd that is forming the bulk of the new cases. This is the segment of the population that is least vaccinated, because all the States are prioritizing vaccination by age, and it is also the segment of the population that is most active socially, due to being at schools and forced to interact with others, and also it's the segment of the population that is least careful because of immature behaviors on "Spring Break". Yesterday the United States set a record for the number of vaccinations administered, so these numbers will be coming down as the youth get vaccinated.

The Canadian surge is more concerning because the pace of vaccinations is not being stepped up to correspondingly blunt the surges that are "rolling" through the Country. This is the reason for the CDC Level 4 travel advisory.

A younger crowd is forming the bulk of cases both sides of the border.

Our over 70 population is mostly vaccinated. They are well into the 60 population. They are just starting the 55.

You definitely have a head start on vaccination but you will see rapid acceleration of vaccination in Canada in April and May. With vaccine hesitency, I suspect Canada surpasses the US in June.

Thursday Quebec vaccinated 69thousand people. Adjust for population size and that's an equivalent of 2.8Million for the US.
That's where the US was maybe 3 weeks ago.

The probability of everyone being vaccinated (with a first dose) by St-Jean Baptiste is very possible.

The US has a higher percent of overall population vaccinated. But the infection rate in many places is as bad as Canada. And many of the people causing it have no intention of getting vaccinated.

The variant shit show during vaccine ramp-up is all over the world. I completely agree on travel advisories, but seeing some of the restrictions being lifted on domestic flights and the variant rampage, maybe they should put some on some domestic travel.

My bet : borders open in August and while it will appear to be a bi-lateral decision, Canada will be the last to say OK. Opening the border is very low on the federal governments priority

Not really. By March 19th the US had vaccinated over 100 million people.
