It's been ten years since the ice storm which severely affected a huge triangle of geography including Montreal. How bad did it affect you. Where were you, and how did you deal with it?

You have my sympathy Zig. It may not always have been fun but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

You know? Oddly enough I agree with you. The experience at times was almost surreal. I can recall walking out into the back area of my property (2 acres) and hearing the branches break and fall with the weight of ice. And maybe at those times we gain an appreciation for many of the intangibles in life. I don't mind saying it gave me an appreciation of what little there is to separate us from all we have. To walk through a house where nothing works can really give you an appreciation for the difference between wants and needs. And maybe how materialism has distorted our sense of values. Natural disasters can kind of give one a renewed
sense of perspective.

If it does not kill you, it makes you stronger.

While I do not agree with that statement totaly, I can say for sure that in my case it made me stronger. I improvised and adapted to the situation and conditions. I made lamps out of car batteries and automotive light bulbs, I cooked on a propane camp stove and kept warm by filling 2 liter soft drink bottles and using it as a hot water bottle in bed at night. I slept in a warm bed layered in a sleeping bag and blankers with the improvised hot water bottle providing heat for the humans and kitty slept on top of the pile getting heat for herself too. I was well stocked on food and had few need considering the circumstances. I also shared as much as I could with others, it is times like this when people show their humanity or lack of.

I remember the ice storm. I didn't have power for a little under 2 weeks. Work was cancelled for me for about 1 week.
