I've been seeing more reports about this and was wondering if anyone here has had any recent personal experiences they would like to share. From what I understand, it's mostly arising from the US side of the border and device searches are becoming more frequent.

I crossed 2 weeks ago without any issues on either side.

What reports? Where? Without giving any examples, you're just starting a rumor.

Returned recently on a busy travel day. Only 2 lane open. Almost 4 hours in line. It was brutal. Does that count?

I visit the US at least once or twice a month for work. However, I usually cross the border in airports, and maybe once or twice a year by car. So, my recent experiences have been the opposite. The US side has become more relaxed, while Canadian customs have started taking longer in the past few months. I've also noticed that it's become more difficult for Americans to cross our border as well

I would agree with the above post. Canada side was a bit unorganized and sending a lot of people for secondary inspections. Didn’t see if they were USA plates or Canada. Coming back into the states was business as usual. No issues.

There are tariffs on a number of items going into Canada, so that may explain the delays. Not so going into the States.

Crossed today. Got a secondary screening for the first time on my vehicle. It was friendly and quick, but in the 40 times or so that I've gone over that crossing I've never been searched before. Traveling on Nexus though and am supposed to get a random flagging every once in a while so might have been that. Nobody gave me a hard time on either side though.

For last few years I have come to Canada from states in early September for the two World Cup cycling races and have crossed no problem.
December of 2024 crossed without giving a great reason for the border guard or quick enough response ! Vacation days off found myself in northern Vermont decided to spend day and night in Montreal . I was pulled off to side and vehicle was inspected and was no problem and was let through with a @30 minute delay. Honestly should have just said holiday . Had a great night of usual bar comedy night etc…

I’ve traveled numerous times in the last 6 weeks, no issues whatsoever. The media doing what the media does.
i appreaciate your testimonial. And you are right: the media is doing what the media does...

but the fact remains, border agents are more zealous these days, and YOU may not have had problems, but problems are being had!
