I went to AT&T and was all set to buy the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The sale rep noticed the small crack in the screen on my phone and told me they would give me $350 on the trade of the 10 with the cracked phone, but if I made an insurance claim (my phone is insured) and got a new screen, the trade in value would be $800. So he sent me to Asurion. I went to Asurion, made the insurance claim, and they are changing the screen on the 10. I hope to pick up the repaired phone at 6 pm, drive back to AT&T, trade in the repaired phone, and then complete the deal for 14 Pro Max.
$800??? My screen isn’t cracked and scratch less (have a glass cover on screen and plastic cover all around) and my battery is 2 months old (100% battery health). can I send it to you to sell it? Seems the market is more hungry there.

LOL- I went to Asurion and they examined the phone and told me there was no repairable issue. The screen protector was cracked, not the screen! I have to admit it looked cracked so me and AT&T rep were fooled. $29 deductible refunded. I am back at AT&T getting my $800 trade in and new phone!!!

This is a case of WTF

I just checked the apple USA website... the appraisal for trading in a iPhone X is 130USD, in apple Canada it's 170CAD... again, WTF lol

My iPhone 10 is in functional condition. The screen was NOT cracked, and when the screen protector was peeled off it looked to be in mint condition. Plus I am going through AT&T and not Apple. I deserved that $800 on the trade. I am giving back a phone that still works, man. It's beaten up, yes, but it's still going. It held its value nicely!

Interesting thread which led me to start looking up the new iphone a couple of days ago. My current phone is an iphone X which i purchased in May 2018. It was rather new at the time & I remember all the younger people being nearly obsessed with it. Anyways it served me well & i chose the 256GB at time which turned out to be the perfect choice for me. I hoped to keep it for at least five years & although I dropped a few times it still looks in excellent condition since i usually take pretty good care of my electronics & my cars.

So last night i decided it was time to switch cases since I remembered buying a new one last year that was still unused in its original box. When i removed the old case i was shocked to see that the rear glass of my phone was shattered! It’s cracked all over the rear & i have no idea how long it’s been this way. It still works very well but now i’m more & more interested in getting the new phone. And since the Applecare+ on my phone expired over a year or two ago my options are to replace the phone, get it repaired which will be costly or i simply keep on using it while trying to ignore the shattered rear.

The cost of repairing at Apple Store is not that high and is guaranteed! Also Is the investment for a trade in meaning getting value for lowering the cost of the new phone worth it ? My 11 after fixing was worth 415$ with apple care . without apple care would cost 129$ ! So total price of my 14 minus 415$ got my monthly lowered a lot ! If you can get decent money after fixing your phone it’s worth it !.

Thanks for the feedback. I read that repairing my Iphone X could end up costing me as much as $500-600 at Apple if i chose to have it repaired. And since i purchased it back in 2018 the Applecare+ coverage that i had on it is no longer valid since it expired in 2021. I also do not have an Apple store close by. If i set up an appointment at an Apple store for the next time i’ll be close to one would they repair it on the same day of the appointment? I’m aware that i could always ship them my phone but the thing is…i can’t be without my phone for more than a day.

Doc,

As I posted above, at least in the US, Apple uses Asurion for iPhone repair. You might want to call Apple and see if Asurion is their authorized repair shop in Canada:

The repair will take more than one hour if they have the parts !!! Apple downtown will do the repair .They can evaluate the phone it takes 10 minutes from there you can make a choice ! Also all the major carrier are near , go ask question for trade in and cell plan !

Thanks. The next time i’m in a city for a few days which has an Apple store i’ll schedule an appointment & take it from there. I‘ll likely end up keeping the phone as a backup even if i chose to buy a new phone and get my current one repaired or not. I also prefer to keep doing what I’m currently doing which is avoid locking up to any phone plan & instead keep my ‘bring your own phone’ plan and pick my carrier depending on the best options they offer. Right now i’ve been with Virgin Mobile for the past four years and have been extremely satisfied with what they’ve given me. But i’m always open to switching depending on whichever offers may come up.

After looking at the introduction of the Google Pixel line I am duly impressed with the phone especially the darn price tag of the Pixel 7. I am still rocking an iPhone 11 and very happy with this phone but come that time where I have to get a new one I am seriously thinking about going back to Android. Right now I am not sucked into the Apple Ecosystem fully as I only got the iPhone 11 and iPad Mini 6. If I get a Mcbook that might change things altogether.

Ahhhh First World problems.......

I came to the same conclusion based on my current usage and ordered a phone with 128 GB. My new iPhone 14 Pro Max should arrive within 2 weeks.
Got your new toy yet??

I am starting to think if I should go from X to XV, that would be my biggest jump... I do have a brand new battery in my X and pulled it out if its casing last night, it looks brand new!

I got an email from AT&T that it shipped to my local AT&T store on 10/5. I just checked the tracking and it's arrived at the store so I am calling them up to set up an appointment to get it.
