Getting back to the original subject.

I suspect that the prices are al low as they are going to go. Montreal Massage services ( Salon or Private ) are the lowest in North America. To try to get a bargain basement price is to risk getting less than enthusiastic service. If you cheap out this time, do they realy want to see you next time?

Sweet talk.

If you want more mileage, sweet talk them like they were the only one you see for massages. You would be surprised how much more mileage you will get. It works at MPs and also at the deli counter. I get more at both places by being nice!:)

300$ Where the hell are you guys getting your numbers?????

Me? From The Mirror - these are very old prices for display ads, without a low-cut top.

For one week, Mirror-only:

2 col x2 200$
3 col x2 300$
3 colx3 450$
4 col x4 800$
1/4 page 1250$
1/2 page 2500$
Full page 5000$

YVO, why are you only talking about 'display ads' ? The overwhelming majority of ads by indy's are not display ads. Like I said earlier...it's easy to inflate the prices of doing business. A couple of SCs advertise on the radio, Chez Paree for one. I would hardly use the cost of those ads when figuring out the cost of advertising for the average strip club.

So how about you go and get the average price for the usual 2 or 3 line text ad which is the norm and use that for the cost assessment?

how about you take that money and throw it down the well, then? If you want classifieds, they've invented this thing called "craigslist". Maybe you've heard of it?

Display ads are what get real attention and business from people who aren't worried about paying $20 for a handjob in a massage parlor, but people with actual, you know, money.

I will agree with you there. But if you read the title of the thread, those are obviously not the kind of people we are talking about in this thread.
This thread seems to be targeted at the low end parlors and the people who patronize them trying to get the most mileage for the least money.

They are obviously not going to upscale, quality MPs with the money to spend on advertising.

ack.

OTOH I have done extensive ROI testing on a number of channels. I'd be happy to share it with any indy who asks. (For those of you who don't know what I just wrote means, in plain English: I tested a bunch of different places to advertise in terms of return on investment - that is, the money it cost to place ads).

Display advertising in the Mirror (and anywhere else) is tricky. It costs a lot, and the key is size and repetition. A small ad, placed once, does nothing. Even large ads have to cut through the noise presented by the other ads to gain any kind of response.

it's working

i've been using the 'hard times lines " for a few weeks now and it's working!the business is slowing around montreal so the girls take what we can give.
all together now! maybe saving me 20 to 30 dollars for extra service with girl in room each visit. that's money boys!

Montreal
Discounts on room rate

Massage place at 3901 Jean Talon is temporarily reducing the normal hourly room rate from $50 to $40 and giving out a $10 gaz coupon.

You might want to emphaisize that those are old rates...
Because for all three weekly papers that they print, (as of November 2008) It was 182$ (for 3 lines with bold print and website listing) before the low cut top trick was realised.
Not enough calls for MPs come off of the Mirror alone to merit the 200$ per week. (Remember that I had the Salon under my name for 3 months and before that I was "just an employee" (running the place) for a year.
I took care of the accounting and buisness management and advertising.
Before taking over that salon, I also worked at others where I did my "research" on the biz of owning a place and I would take tallies of where the clients were coming from.
The standing stays at Hour, Voir and 24 Heure as the most frequent.

I suspect that trying to get a lower price at an MP works better when the masseuse does not have an established clientele. If she works independently or if she works at a salon and has a good reputation and steady clientel, she is less likely to offer up a discount. This might even bea one time deal, imagine if you go back expecting the same deal and she refuses. Your ROI will suffer a setback.
