Dropped by the West Island Chenoy's for the first time in a long time. I don't remember their Old Fashioned being as good as it was. (It was good this time!)

Also, isn't Pete related to the Schwartz's people somehow? Excellent smoked meat.

Druxy's Deli is quite popular around Toronto. There are at least dozens of concession stands in the downtown Toronto area, and some restaurants i believe. Are there any "Druxy's" in the Montreal area?

Never heard of it.

But then I don't associate Toronto with food. :)

That's what i find sad about Montreal. It's being associated with food & hookers all the time. There is so much more to this beautiful city than simply food & hookers. Okay, i agree that there's a lot more to do & see in Toronto, but still......it shouldn't all be about food & hookers.

Son of the owner of the Main Deli. Used to work the grill in his younger days.

Doc Holliday's Famous Old Fashioned Smoked Meat

Mounds of delicious Montreal smoked meat sliced between two slices of rye bread. Add mustard to the sandwich. Then add a dill pickle, coleslaw & fries to the plate. Serve warm & with a cola or water.

Although I did not go with him, my friend went to Schwartz's last week and said they have a new takeout window where you can go and order a smoked meat sandwich and then eat on an outdoor terrace. He said he had a great smoked meat sandwich there.

The new take-out stand is open usually only on the weekends, or from Thursday on. (Doesn't "the weekend" in Montreal run from Thursday to Friday? Sat & Sun is the weekend for tourists. And for Montrealers, the work week begins again on Tuesdays. ;-) Anyway. There are bar stools in the back, where you can sit down and eat... It's so relaxed here there I find myself going back for a second sandwich...

My two cents on the endless smoked meat debate: Many Montrealers obviously love the smoked meat which you can order at almost any hamburger joint. However, this smoked meat is generally very different from what you find at Schwartz's. It looks "clean"... clean slices of meat, very little browning crust around the edges, and it's very moist. The Main across the street serves this very popular "other type" of smoked meat sandwich. It's okay but actually I don't like it at all. Yeah, I think it's disgusting actually! I stopped trying those sandwiches. Schwartz's is a totally different class of sandwich. A few other places may do it similar to Schwartz's, maybe even better, yet when Schwartz's serves you a fresh, well-cut sandwich, with hand-cut slices, and often they serve it too dry, or too fatty, it's.... well, the best. Peace to those who love The Main style, but I don't see a comparison there really.

My place to go for a smoked meat sandwich when in Mtl is at Reuben's Deli. I've never went to Schwartz. Is there that much difference between the two sandwiches? Is the difference that much better that it's worth a trip at the other end of town just to eat a smoked meat sandwich?

By the way, the worse smoked meat sandwich i've eaten in recent years was at Dunn's (on Metcalf).

The best smoked meat comes from Deli's not burger joints.

The worst Deli in IMO is Dunn's

I brought a friend from out West to the Nickels on Ste-Catherines for a Poutine Smoked Meat at around midnight. He devoured it !
