I was curious to understand why it seems to be almost exclusisvely affecting the the gay men community... If I understand correctly, the outbreak may have its origins in some raves in Europe amongst gay men, and has been spreading within the community since then.

Surprised the virus has not made the jump to the wider sexual communities yet. I guess its a matter of time...Its one thing to tell your wife you caught covid (from seeing sps), its a whole other ballgame to explain monkey pox!!

What I am scared of is Monkeypox found a way to combine with Covid and out comes this new thing that is going to put things on another full stop/lockdown.

And how many cases go unreported ? If its a very mild rash it may be confused with some other viral or auto-immune outbreak. If you get a real painful boil around your ass , you may be too embarrassed to go to your Dr.

Biden administration declares the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency​

Since the first US monkeypox case was identified in mid-May, more than 6,600 probable or confirmed cases have been detected in the United States. Cases have been identified in every state except Montana and Wyoming.

The declaration follows the World Health Organization announcement last month that monkeypox is a public health emergency of international concern. WHO defines a public health emergency of international concern, or PHEIC, as "an extraordinary event" that constitutes a "public health risk to other States through the international spread of disease" and "to potentially require a coordinated international response."

Some cities and states, including New York City, San Francisco, California, Illinois and New York, have already declared monkeypox an emergency, allowing them to free up funding and resources for their responses to the outbreak.

There are no specific monkeypox vaccine... But the monkeypox is closely related to the virus that causes smallpox. Both the CDC and the WHO have published data showing that the smallpox vaccine is 85% effective in preventing monkeypox infection.
