What a poor defensive showing at home by the Leafs. Freddie Anderson pulled from net after allowing 7 goals on 28 shots...save % of .750 is not what you want from your starting goalie in a big game on home ice.

Regarding Laine, he has been playing with a chip on his shoulder. He is out to prove that he, not Auston Matthews, should have been overall #1 pick in 2016 draft. Reports indicate he checks Matthews stats every day and is motivated to one up him every time he laces up his skates. He wants to show everyone he is an all around points guy, good for a point a game or better, and not a Phil Esposito like pure goal scorer, which is actually what Matthews is looking like. Matthews could be like Phil Esposito. 6 goals to 1 assist is not what you want from a center and makes Esposito look like a playmaker in comparison. BTW Esposito had more assists than goals every year 1970-1972 when he was tearing up NHL hockey nets.

Not quite true, tied with McDavid and played one more game. McDavid is in first place.

Fifth straight win for CAR....a franchise record......:yo: to Brind'Amoir who is doing a heck of a job.....his team plays with energy and tenacity..same as him when he was a player.

I watched BUF winning in S/O vs PANTHERS.....good and tight game.....both teams will battle fermement for the playoffs....and both have great coaching derrière le banc.......Habs are better to look closely at them....won't b easy:Cry:

I agree. I think Mathews and Laine were the two best players taken in the 2016 draft. I would say it’s 50/50 as to who should have gone #1. It’s still too early to say. Matthews lack of assists this year is disturbing. To have one assist at Center position with the guys he is playing with is shameful.

Laine is out to show he can pass. His assist totals dwarf those of Matthews at the moment.

You may have Matthews mixed up with Marner. Matthews isn't known for his playmaking. He's a pure goalscorer. Mitch Marner is the playmaker and better known for making terrific passes.

Oh, that was four years ago. No one is thinking about this anymore. Just like no one is comparing Connor McDavid to Jack Eichel anymore. Four years ago consensus was 100% that Auston Matthews would be picked first. The actual debate at the time was who would be picked second: Laine or Puljujarvi. But after Laine was chosen the Blue Jackets surprised everyone by drafting P-L Dubois instead. Many were certain that Puljujarvi would be their pick especially since their GM comes from Finland. Turns out that he made a great selection in drafting Dubois instead. Is Puljujarvi even still in the league?

One strong rumour at the time was that the Habs had a trade on the table with the Oilers if Dubois was still available at the #4 slot. Montreal likely would have swapped picks with the Oilers plus adding other picks/players. But another rumour at the time had PK Subban heading to the Oilers. I'm not sure if this would have included Edmonton's #4 pick but it's quite possible considering the Subban to Nashville trade only happened days later. The trade possibly could have been Subban to the Oilers for the Dubois pick and another player, likely one of Edmonton's younger defencemen....possibly Klefbom or Nurse.

He is off to a hot start in the Finnish professional league, and the Oilers are looking to trade him for a veteran defenseman.

Getting back to Laine-Matthews, make no mistake, it is still being debated whether Laine should have been picked number 1. Matthews may be a pure goal scorer but Laine has been developing into a more well rounded player who can score and pass.
