For enhanced service, I'd suggest you reserve under "Goldstein" and once seated, throw a "Mommala! Oy!" and a "I'm all verklempt" here and there and loud enough so everyone hears you. The waiter might think you're a little ibabooble in the capi but if you say that his steak was like butta' as you tip him, he might smile back.

Ziggy, LOL, probably true, but I am the kind of guy who would more likely ask the same waiter to melt some mozzerrella cheese on the steak, and serve it with a glass of whole milk and an order of bacon on the side, just to see what his reaction would be.:D

Price Ranges

Guys,

Thanks for all your input

To ammend, I guess maybe my price range ideas are a bit out to lunch. Out here $50 for the entree, puls drink, wine etc, is about as pricey as things get.

As i said it is a business dinner so needs to be good, somewhat upscale...what should I expect for a range...75+ more or less.

I had looked at the menu for DU VIEUX PORT in old Montreal, does anyone have comments...what should I expect for prices there?

Ziggy...I'm Irish, so would have diffuculty passing for a Goldstein I think...lol...red head, pasty freckled skin...5'6...it does look like I've seen a moile as a baby boy though...lol

5Hole,
I'd humbly suggest the Beaver Club in the Queen Elizabeth hotel. This place is most definitely upscale and seems to meet your criteria -- except the eye candy is not guaranteed here... Specifically, you made a point about martinis... Theirs is hands down the finest in Montreal. It's not a well known fact -- but order one and you will not be disappointed.

If eye candy is essential, then you may need to forgoe the perfect martini, but you can still have a great one and great food etc at Buena Note, Med, Globe, Primmadonna (all 4 of these are right beside each other on St. Laurent just north of Sherbrooke)...

You can't go wrong with any of these choices (as long as you're not paying:rolleyes: )

At Europea, for 2 people I have paid $180 for the Table d'Hote, 2 glasses of Sancerre each, taxes, and tip.

 Shhh! Don't reveal anything about yourself! You've got the Montreal branch of the Information Awareness Office taking notes. :D

5hole,

You must live in an isolated community because there are freckle faced, fair skinned Jews. Your description will not stop you from pulling off what Ziggy has suggested. If you go to Moishes, the restaurant will fill the bill except for ambience.

Beaver

Isolated I guess in a sense not a big Jewish communtiy where I am, if at all...small wetsern city...I am glad to know there are red heads everywhere.

Thanks to all for the tips,

Again if anyone had a comment on DU VIEUX PORT I appreciate hearing about it.

5Hole,
I have dined at Restaurant du Vieux Port several times, and reviewed it in this thread in June of last year.
Food is very good and very reasonable without breaking the bank. I enjoyed the steak there.
If you go, sit upstairs. Nice decor, open walls and such.

I would recommend Restaurant Du Vieux Port with no hesitation. Nice ambiance and honest staff. On one visit with a lady on a particularly stormy evening in a virtually empty restaurant, she ordered lobster and the manager came by to ask her to change her order as the lobster they had did not meet their usual standards as they had not received the day's delivery due to the snow storm. He then sent over a complimentary round of cocktails and we spent an enjoyable evening there. She had a salmon filet instead and I had a great NY strip. The food was excellent as well as the service...seeing as the place was almost empty there weren't many people to serve so it's not really a valid evaluation of the service, YMMV if the place is busy.

Also in Old Montreal there's The Keg. Don't confuse it with other places of the same chain in Ottawa and elsewhere. The food here is very good, a more laid back atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Try the mushrooms neptune and the Keg size margaritas.

If you are really into steak, you can try Joe Beef. It will give any of the overpriced and overhyped places a run for their money at a much lower price. A meat lovers paradise. http://www.joebeef.net/ A review: http://www.montrealfood.com/restos/joebeef.html

Here is ck-nj's review posted in this thread on 6-12-06:

"I took a wonderful lady out to Restaurant du Vieux Port last night.
http://www.restaurantduvieuxport.com
It is on St. Paul St. in Old Montreal.
They serve very good steak and seafood at reasonable prices, prices that will not break the bank.
I had eaten there a few years ago, and had sat in the main level last time I was there.

We sat upstairs, and the decor is amazing. A very nice rustic charm, with exposed rock walls throughout.

I had the Filet Mignon. Very tender and juicy. My date had the Bavette du Boeuf (flank steak).

We had a very nice conversation througout the evening. After dinner, we strolled through the city for a while, then parted. I had a wonderful time. It was all that I expected from the evening, nothing more, nothing less. She is a very sweet and funny woman, and I was a gentleman throughout.

BTW I took her recommendation, and the same recommendation from the hotel clerk, to try Sho Dan tonight. I was torn between there and Mikasa. I feel like upscale though, so I think I'll try Sho Dan.

I'll report back on Sho Dan after my visit."

Thanks to All

To all who have responed thanks for your input, I will be sure to include reports of my restarunt experiences and SP experiences when I return home.

In addition, I ran a quick search of Cigar Bras, did not find much, is there now a smoking ban in Montreal, has this affected the cigarr bars?

Can anyone recommend a nice place to sit drink whiskey, smoke a ciagr and flirt with girls, three of 5holes favorite passtimes.

Ah The Irish

EagerBeaver said:
5Hole,

Don't forget to go to those Irish pubs on Crescent Street. I will be very disappointed if I don't hear a report from you on them.;)

Beaver,

How could I forget, I could never let the Irish in me down.

What can you recommend for Irish Pubs, where a short, red, freckled, Irish drunkard can sit at the bar in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday and charm the sexy female patrons or severs into a night on the town.

Where would have a few people and by people I mean women (preferably red heads) around on a Thursday afternoon?

Last time (June/06) i stopped in a few Pubs on a Thursday aft and they were all dead, so I went and flirted with the cute bar tender at Pino for a while, it was quite all right. Actually went to a pub across the way from Pino, upstairs, dont recall the name. The mid-afternoon servers on a Thursday seemed a touch rancid, but across the street at Pino, I could see some cuties so hung out there for the evening (until a date with Devilish anyway). After I met my Devilish date, I went back to Pino, hung out with the cuties again...a nice staff, at least taht day, it was my only experience.
