so that's how the other half eats, eh?

I always eat at home....i love cooking. However, when i'm on the road, i don't have time & money to waste in restaurants, so i eat on the go. Going to another burger place today. My review will follow later.

Harvey's......It's a Beautiful Thing!

Harvey's (Peel, near Ste-Catherine st.)

I was craving for a good burger earlier & headed out to the nearest Harvey's. I noticed that the special going was 2 original burgers for only $5. Since the burgers are quite big, i didn't have the fries this time around, but did have a diet Coke to go along with it.

The burgers were very tasty & cooked just right. The black kid at the counter made the burger in front of me & i told him i wanted pickles, mustard, relish, ketchup, onions & tomatoes on it. I passed on the hot peppers, since i had heartburn the last time i ate some. Stopped by the bathroom on my way out & then headed out to my hotel to eat the delicious burgers, possibly the best i've eaten in Mtl yet.

2 Harvey's Original Burgers
1 Diet Coke

Total came up to under $7. What a bargain!!! :D

I will definitely repeat! Highly recommended for you burger lovers.

Next: I'll try their Angus Burger:

Harvey's? Yukkk, I hate frozen burger patties. Someday I'm going to have to take you for a Dillalo Burger! If you want a good and cheap charbroiled burger downtown, you should try Buns, 1855 Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest. I also noticed a new one opening on St-Laurent.
Techman, the good Doc happens to be full of shit here. (Happens when you spend too much time hanging with the Beav.) I happen to know for a fact that Doc is not even in Montreal at the moment. He's home in the tiny hamlet of Mooseballs, Manitoba, hundreds of miles from the nearest Harvey's. It's also possible that the Habs crushing defeat of his (recently) beloved Penguins has sent the poor boy over the edge.

Thanks for the tip, Tech. But St-Marc is a bit far from where i'm staying (unless i decide to go to the AMC movie theatre this weekend). Do you know how far the one on St-Laurent is from Ste-Catherine street?

I also like the price....$4. Very reasonable. The last time i went to an unknown burger resto in Mtl, Rumples brought be there & it cost something like $10 per burger & it wasn't half as good as the ones i had at A&W and at Harvey's. Plus, we had to wait for nearly 45 minutes for the food to arrive. I hate spending anything more than 15 minutes in a resto just to eat. I also aren't fond of eating at a resto since it's expected we leave a tip. Nothing like just walking into a place & grabbing your own. Which is why i'm a huge fan of foodcourts.

Thanks again, i'm looking forward to checking it out maybe later today.

Buns on St-Laurent is at 3673, up around Prince Arthur. I also noticed another one more to the East that was getting ready to open a couple weeks ago but can't remember exactly where I saw it.

You could always give them a call and ask where their other locations are: 514-759-7799

I heard Buns has great burgers, but the seating is limited.

I also heard of a place called Burger de Ville.

No doubt, Montreal has great food, but burgers are lacking, imo.

Great to see Doc that you are concerned enough about your health to keep an eye on the calorie count by washing this stuff down with a diet coke:) When i am eating those two large bags of lays chips when i am watching the hockey games i make sure i drink lite beer so i don't over do it with calories right before i go to bed. We must put our health first:)

Same here. I drink Stella Artois Light while eating a bag of Old Dutch 'Humpty Dumpty' BBQ chips. Yummy!!!

Burger King (Place Montreal Trust foodcourt)

Had lunch there yesterday. Ate a very good burger & fries (combo #2) were surprisingly very good. I only had $10 to spend, so i consider i hit the jackpot:

1 Double Whopper
1 medium fries
1 medium Diet Coke

Total came to $8.23. What a bargain!!!

I also noticed they have a new whopper out called the Steak Whopper. It looks good, but i didn't think i had enough money for it. I also noticed they have another one that could possibly caused heart attacks called "Mechant Whopper". It's full of a lot of gooey-looking stuff. EagerBeaver would love that one, i'm certain (as long as he can get them to cook it rare).

I'll defintely repeat......even though i haven't found anything yet in Montreal that beats the Harvey's burgers.

Next: Wendy's, if i can find one in downtown Mtl. Maybe Dairy Queen, again if i can find one that serves burgers in downtown Mtl. If i strike out, back to Harvey's. :D

Burger King is OK; although I think that all of their new variations are too bewildering. That's market saturation, and I think people still just stick with a regular Whopper, single or double.

Get the Onion Rings, instead of the fries, along with their onion ring sauce.

Wendy's is awesome; although their burger isn't cooked any differently, it just seems to taste better, imo, with the bun and the condiments. Their fries are good too.

BTW, if you go to the Wal-Mart at Namur (near the Hippodrome), there's a BK AND a Wendy's within walking distance. The Wendy's also shares the same space with a Timmies.

PS: I don't think there's a Wendys downtown. There USED to be one near the Harvey's on Peel, but I think it got replaced with a Peel Pub location. It seems to me that downtown Montreal seems to discourage having too many American chains.

That's the original Buns, it's almost next door to Wok Cafe, my standard go-to place for cheap and good Asian food.

I prefer Soup & Noodles over Wok Cafe but a friend of mine swears by Wok and will only go to S&N when forced to. Lol.

I have been to both Soup and Noodles and Wok Cafe and as between those two, I prefer Wok Cafe. It's personal choice and depends on what you are ordering. The Wok Cafe has some interesting dim sum combo platters, that are nothing special but nevertheless interesting for that kind of resto that does not specialize in dim sum. They also serve some of their dishes in mini-Woks which is interesting.

I find Soup and Noodles quite passable, but no more. Huge portions of decent food at low prices. I had one of the worst meals I've ever eaten at Wok Cafe a few weeks ago. My stomach turns just thinking of it.

My favorite place in Chinatown II is the Roi du Wonton on St. Marc. They make the noodles to order. Their Twice Cooked Pork is one of the best dishes served in Montreal. Here's the Mirror review. http://www.montrealmirror.com/2008/052208/resto.html

La Maison du Nord at 2130 St. Mathieu is another hole in the wall serving Chinese food considerably more authentic than either S & N or Wok Cafe. Here's their Mirror review. http://www.montrealmirror.com/2009/090309/resto.html

However, my very favorite Chinese resto in Montreal is Niu Kee. Their Kung Pao Chicken is the best I've ever had. The Garlic Pork is itself worth coming to Montreal for. Here's their Mirror review as well: http://www.montrealmirror.com/ARCHIVES/2003/111303/resto.html

actually, chinese food is not really healthy and often just as greasy

for some reason, people think that it's healthy eating

granted, chinese food doesn't use as much red meat as continental fare, but the deep frying and thick sauces are also bad

that being said, i love chinese food for the variety of taste

as for health, it's all in moderation

Oh sure but that's probably because McDonalds, Burger King, A&W, Harveys and Wendy's don't have it on there menu, if you could get it all greasy the way they would serve it, you would probably love it:)

Well, i do like the chicken balls a.k.a Sweet n' Sour Chicken. And the Won Ton Soup. But that's it!
