maria mourani bugs me...she is a total abolishinist. there is no grey zone in her approach. She is old school 'make all of it illegal'. she makes a lot of noise that the other polititians find hard to ignore.

It has a budget of 1.2 million per year, if you subtract what corrupt officials will put in their pockets (I enjoy paying taxes sooo much), that leaves about 100k per yearly, about enough for one extra investigator. I guess that is why there is no real impact.
I remember seeing news report on tv when this squad was announced last spring.
The problem is police work independetly in their city, territory or jurisdiction and have rare contacts with each other. This squad is created mainly to facilitate contacts and trade informations between them.
An example that was given in a tv interview was a pimp from Montreal who would drive his girls to work in small cities like Trois-Rivieres for 2-3 days then come back to Montreal.
In this example TR police would transmit information to Montreal police about the suspicious activities the pimp is doing in their locality, where he is traveling,etc.

Cynicism aside if you count a cop salary plus benefits at 75k/year let's say, and operation budget of 20k/employee, you're talking about a dozen staff team.
Exactly. I know from a very very good source that all energy are on pimps and minor. MP may get busted once in a while if neighbors complains too much.

Not cynicism, it’s called reality. Corruption comes in all forms. From hiring useless staff for useless administrative purposes to home improvements paid by yours truly from our taxes. It’s prevasive and ubiquitous in our gouvernement. I’m not saying it’s unique to quebec, it’s just a fact. Then again I may be exaggerating a tiny bit.
