It's Freddy Kreuger who reminds me of Ron Hextall.

Before Ronnie Hextall, there was hockey legend Billy Smith of the Islanders. Oh, could he ever be mean at times!!

Needless to say, few dared approach his crease. Or else they likely would get a meeting with Battling Billy's wooden axe!

Yeah... I think Bob Clarke and a few of his team mates are still pulling splinters out of their teeth from Billy Smith!!!

The breakaway segment of the competition was won by Alex Ovechkin. Why did he win? Not because he scored some nice goals. He won because he wore a silly disguise on his final attempt. No kidding. That's why he won. For winning a disguise. That's all i have to say.

Right you are Doc but don't blame Ovechkin - blame the NHL for 1) the stupidest "competition" of all and 2) for making it even stupider by having the fans vote on it by text messaging.

Quite true. I also find it stupid that the fans are the ones voting for the starting lineups. I mean...Mike Komisarek??? Not only shouldn't he be on the starting lineup, but he shouldn't even be on the all-star team, PERIOD!!!

I also don't think Cary Price has any business being on the all-star team, considering he's missed a good chunk of the season due to injuries. Not only is he on the all-star team, but he was chosen to start in nets by the fans. And Alex Kovalev....please!! He's having one of his worse seasons ever!!!

Give the selections back to the sportswriters!!

I live within a short distance of four NHL teams. The Allstar game is not even on cable TV in my area? This does not speek much for the rateings of this event.

Here's what i'd do for future all-star games:

I'd force the last-place team (right now, it'd be the NY Islanders) the play a team of all-stars. Humiliate them. You can bet that when the humiliation starts to kick in, the players will start getting nasty & you'll see cheap-shots & fights happening. It wouldn't be pretty, but at least the game would be interesting to watch. :D

John Henry "Doc" Holliday is on fire and must wearing his Maple Leafs cooking gloves !!

Doc's just bitter because not even Leafs fans will vote for Leafs players. ;)

I thought it was a fun game to watch, the presentation was great as could be expected from Montreal, and the fans as well as the players really seemed to enjoy themselves. And the hometown favorite scores the winner in the shootout and ends up as the game MVP! What more could you ask for from an All Star game?:D

Alex Kovalev, first star all-star game 2009

Un petit résumé:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2008040057

Allright... Tout à fait exact

Doc Holliday said:
Don't thank the fans, thank the hackers for getting Kovalev on the team. Of course, his selection as MVP was a hometown decision. Personally, i would have voted for Tim Thomas, who was great in the last minutes of the 3rd period & in the overtime, especially when they were killing a penalty to the guy who had no business there this weekend, none other than Mike 'The Kommy' Komisarek. If it weren't for Thomas, the game would have ended quicker with the Western Conference winning the game....meaning Kovalev never would have had the opportunity to even be considered for MVP, since the winner usually is with the winning team. Kovalev should sell the car & give half his earnings to Tim Thomas.

Tim Thomas avait-il plus de mérite? Oui, mais dans ces matchs, le goaleur ne participant qu'à 1 période sur les 3, ça lui donne moins de chance d"éclipser les autres vedettes.

This type of nonsense will continue until the NHL really gets tough on it - and that'll probably never happen.

can't have a better example of a deliberate headshot... even with all that talk around the league of putting a stop to such occurences, i don't expect much of a disciplinary sanction... at the most 2-3 games and only because Gauthier has prescedents. that way they can't be blamed for not taking actions. But they're really not addressing the situation by giving ridiculusly feeble after the fact sanctions just to save face...i'm still curious to see the verdict on this one...

Right on! I'm no fan of Sean Avery and I'm glad to see him gone, but he got 6 games for opening his big mouth and people who do things that could kill someone usually get a lot less!
