NHL vs Covid- this very comprehensive article details everything the NHL is doing with regard to the impact of Covid. Clearly the league believes all postponed games will be played and the full 56 game schedule played. What remains an open question is whether the playoffs will be in a bubble:

Look behind you.
Not sure if any of you are in hockey pools but a weird year. Some early flops and some surprises.

The win was not as important as the individual accomplishments of McDavid, because nobody really thinks this team can win anything other than the individual scoring title. In that regard, McDavid had a 5 point night, which you did not mention, and he padded a personal 7 point lead in the scoring race over teammate Draisatl. But don't look now as the hard charging Auston Matthews has 29 points, right behind Draisatl, and has rocketed into the NHL goals lead with 18. Matthews seems to have evolved into a goal scoring center, the Phil Esposito prototype of the modern NHL, but his assists totals, as compared to the Espo this type of player, are not good. He needs to develop that part of his game especially with all the other scorers he has on his team.

That being said, Edmonton has passed fading Montreal and is now in 2nd place in the Canadian division, and looks like they could make the playoffs, but does anyone think they can make a deep run with this defense? No, they do not.

Montreal is now in 4th place in the Canadian division and will need to hold off and douse the Flames in order to maintain their current grip on a playoff spot.

Sol, your current Oilers remind me of the mid 1980s Yankees. Back then, at the same time the Oilers had a dynastic team that was winning Stanley Cups and a threat every year, the Yankees had a very good offensive team that was a bit short on pitching. Hence, we cheered Don Mattingly to win batting titles and an MVP award and Gold Gloves (of which he won 9), and we cheered Ricky Henderson to win stolen bases titles and runs scored titles, of which he won a bunch. We did that because that team never won anything else as it just did not have good enough pitching, and pretty much everyone knew it. It was still fun to watch, for example, Don Mattingly homer in a MLB record 8 consecutive games in the summer of 1987, although while setting that record, he ended up sustaining a back injury swinging for the fences that ruined the rest of his career, which likely would have been Hall of Fame calibre but for that injury. That HR streak was the high point of his career.

Similarly, while sipping the rum and smoking the weed, you need to appreciate the exploits of McDavid and Draisatl because they give you something to root for and keep things exciting, even if it will never result in a Cup being won, which is the way it looks for this team as presently constituted.

Only 1 team gets to win the Stanley Cup every year, so if you are one of the other 30 teams, you just want the team to keep things exciting, and the Oilers are doing that.

On another note, McDavid now has 37 points in 20 games this year. It's been a long time since anyone averaged 2 points a game for a season. You have to go back to the Gretzky-Lemieux era, I believe. McDavid needs another 5 point game to be right on pace, but that he is even flirting with 2 points a game, in this era of defensive hockey, is a remarkable accomplishment. And in a shortened season, if he gets really hot, who knows, it could happen. As of today, McDavid is producing 1.85 points per game, which is incredible, because I consider anything over 1 point a game of production to be star player status.

Edmonton is my home city, Draisatl was my first draft pick ( picked second ). Yes the two are fun to watch and do not expect a cup this year. As you stated earlier with Canadian teams not playing the better US teams there is a minimal chance of a Canadian team winning Coupe de Stanley this year.

Am in 3 pools...not good in 2 BUT near the top in one...the kind you do your picks---18 players --- before the season and you live or dye with all season long....injuries are of course are a big big factor....so my big big deceptions until now are LAINE--TAVARES
and also STAMKOS--MONAHAN.....but thanks to HUGHES--BOESER both from VAN --BACKSTROM and of course McDAVID......i will need strong performances from goalies HART and VASILEVSKIY and MAKAR.....and big big luck ;) .

I am in the Yahoo NA championship league pool. 10 people in the pool ( friends set it up ). You can trade or drop players daily, 10 daily players plus 4 on the bench. One person got 94.5 points yesterday with their point system, currently I am in 5th, was in last 3 weeks ago, second last week. Disappointments are Kuznetson and Samsonov, kept them during their covid-19 isolation hoping for better when they returned. V.Trocheck and N.Niederreiter are my surprise late picks.
