NHLPA and NHL announced today a modification to their COVID-19 protocol....isolation reduced from 10 days to 5 for fully vaccinated players and coaches/staff who meet the required conditions. :)

Ovechkin now has 24 goals in 33 games to tie for league lead with Draisatl. Has anyone ever led the NHL in goals at age 36? Ovechkin also has 26 assists and is just 2 assists behind McDavid for the league lead with 50 points to McDavid's 52.

The last time Maurice "Rocket" Richard led the NHL in goals was at age 33 with 38 goals in 67 games.

Mario Lemieux last led the NHL goals at age 30 when he had 69 goals and 161 points. He did have a 28 goal season at age 37.

Wayne Gretzky led the NHL in points for the last time at age 33, but never had a 40 goal season after his age 30 season.

So what Ovechkin is doing is unprecedented. This is not a sport where players north of 35 put up numbers that are at or near the league lead.

Nobody mentioned that that the Rangers won 4-3 at TB in a shootout. The hero was Mika Zibenajad:

A friend of mine was telling me that the NHL gives the players special insulated windproof uniforms for the winter classic games. Is this true?

Despite the shutout by Igor (with 38 saves!!!!!), Zibenajad hat trick gets him ESPN player of the game for the second straight game as the Rangers sweep the weekend series vs. TB. However I am giving out co players of the game because TB is NOT an easy team to shut out:

Does anybody have an idea why the line in the NYR-Edmonton game tonight has changed from Edmonton being a dog to a 1.28 favorite?

Maybe because Shesterkin isn't playing? Panarin is also out, due to Covid according to the injury report.

BTW Shesterkin is now second in the NHL with a .936 Save %, trailing only Jack "Soup" Campbell of Toronto, who leads with .939.

Shesterkin's performances didnt come up as a big surprise to me, we have seen these russian goalies rising to the top in the past 10 years or so. But Campbell's season is a surprise, didnt see it coming.

Thank you, I wasn't able to find this announcement of a change of goalie.

AV,

I don't know if there was an announcement but Igor played both games this weekend in the sweep of TB and it seemed unlikely that the Rangers would mule a goalie who is just returning from an injury. I am speculating Georgiev will be in goal.
