Yes! When Clinton was president, he ordered his Attorney General (J. Reno) to look the other way on porn production. Very few (or none at all?) cases regarding "obscenity" were filed against porn producers (except for pedophilia cases). FBI agents were reassigned to real crimes.

He could have done the same.

This policy has been reversed under the current US president.

So hypocritical!

When I saw the article, I read of course about how he was apologizing to his wife and children - but what really struck me was the picture with his wife at his side. This is unique to politicians that they can cheat on their wives and then have them stand by their side and tacitly support them while they publicly do their BS routine for voters - these wives are are a part of the political team so they just suck it up. If my wife caught me cheating, she would dump me and have the locks changed in 3 seconds flat!

New York's Spitzer Apologizes to Public for Conduct (Update4)

By Jeremy R. Cooke
More Photos/Details

March 10 (Bloomberg) -- New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, elected on a vow to clean up state government and raise ethics standards, apologized to his family and the public following a report in the New York Times linking him to a prostitution ring.

``I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard that I expect of myself,'' Spitzer, 48, said at a Manhattan press conference. The first-term Democrat, with his wife Silda at his side, said he would ``take time to regain the trust of my family'' and report back ``in short order.''

The New York Times story, published on its Web site earlier today, said Spitzer was caught on a federal wiretap planning to meet a prostitute in Washington after arranging for her to travel from New York. The Times, citing a person briefed on the federal investigation, said an individual identified in an affidavit as ``Client 9,'' who met with a woman in the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, was Spitzer.

Client 9 paid $4,300 for an appointment that began on Feb. 13 and ended at 12:02 a.m. the next day, according to the affidavit.

Spitzer, elected in a landslide in November 2006 on a promise to change the state's political culture, gained national prominence by investigating financial analysts, mutual fund managers and insurance companies while state attorney general from 1999 to 2006. The governor is married with three daughters.

``There is certainly a sense right now that there is an aura of unseemliness about too much of what goes on in Albany,'' Spitzer told reporters at a Dec. 21, 2006, news conference before taking office.

Succession Plan

Fox News and WCBS-TV reported after today's news conference that the governor would submit his resignation as soon as today, without saying where they got the information. Should he step down, Lieutenant Governor David Paterson would finish Spitzer's term and the Senate Majority Leader, Republican Joseph Bruno, would take Paterson's place as next in line.

Prosecutors from the office of Manhattan U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia announced on March 6 the arrest of four individuals connected to an international prostitution and money-laundering ring called the ``Emperors Club.''

The four individuals were charged with using the club to arrange trysts between wealthy male clients and more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, Miami, Los Angeles, London and Paris, the complaint said.

Mann Act

The incident was a violation of the Mann Act, which makes human trafficking and prostitution across state lines a federal crime, according to the complaint.

``Although it is not common for so-called johns to be prosecuted, it's not unheard of, and one might make an argument that when our public officials engage in this kind of alleged activity, a strong example should be set,'' said Jim Walden, a former federal prosecutor in Brooklyn, New York, who's now a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. He said he backed Spitzer's campaign for governor.

Garcia's office said the ``Emperors Club'' took in more than $1 million from its international business and accepted payments in cash. The ring also used an Internet Web site to advertise its services and included photos with hourly rates. The most high-ranked prostitute's fees started at $5,500 per hour, the complaint said.

Investigators executed three search warrants on locations tied to the club, Garcia's office said. They also seized four bank accounts that investigators said were proceeds of the organization's activities.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service. Joseph Foy, a spokesman for the IRS in New York, declined comment. James Margolin, a spokesman for the FBI in New York, wasn't immediately available for comment.

Okay. On the other side of the coin, how would you react if YOU caught your wife cheating? What makes me laugh is that i know a few hobbyists who are totally unaware (or were) that their wives were also cheating on them at the same time. Difference was, they got their sex for free. :D

Well not to get too far off topic, I might make a deal with her if she was only interested in getting some variety to allow me to do the same. So we don't see these things the same way - I think...

But coming back to the Governor, I wonder if his wife may also be getting some on the side??

What's he supposed to do? Look the other (and look guilty in the process) just because he's a john? I would have done the same thing if i were in his shoes. He still has a job to do, and if busting pimps/agencies is part of his job duties, so be it. I know a few cops who use the services of hookers once in a while...doesn't necessarily make them bad cops & that they should resign from their profession. They're allowed a private life also.

"Mr. Spitzer gained national attention when he served as attorney general with his relentless pursuit of Wall Street wrongdoing. As attorney general, he also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.

In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island.

“”This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,” Mr. Spitzer said at the time. ”It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.”"

Fucking Spitzer did not have to go down like this. Man, Montreal is just a 3 hour drive from Albany. He could have easily taken off on weekends and told his wife he was going skiing with the boys at Mount Tremblant. He did not do his research!!!!!!:(

Criminal Complaint

The criminal complaint makes for very interesting reading............it seems like Brener was recruiting print models, and the email he got from one potential recruit rejecting his offer is very telling. It seems like MSOGs in one hour was an issue for her, especially before being taken out for dinner, as I read her letter. She clearly sounds European, judging by her English diction, and it seems like the agency was targeting Eurobabe wannabe models as recruits. In New York City, there are so many wannabe Eurobabes, Brener must of felt like a bull in a china shop.

By the ways Emperor VIP was an ultra HDH outfit. I checked their website a few times and Mr. Spitzer was likely paying $1500 or more per hour for their ladies. I think the cheapest ladies they had, in a 5 tier price structure, were $1000/hour, and the most were $3000/hour. I hope he was getting some good bang for those bucks.

Is this guy independently wealthy? I don't think the governor's job pays that well that he could be doing this on a regular basis at that price! Maybe he got a secret bank account set aside by his political friends for (in)discretionary expenses :)

I wonder was this was about:

"Kristen" spoke with a Emperors Club booker, who said that she had been told that Client-9 "would ask you to do things that, like, you might not think were safe..."

Kristen

Kristen, the escort Spitzer saw, is described as "American, petite brunette." Sounds like Spitzer has same taste in women as me. I will be curious to see if Kristen gets an immunity deal of some kind, enabling her to do the talk show circuit. The Feds will probably give her immunity for cooperation but the potential charges she could face are at the State level - NY and DC.

What I meant to say is that Spitzer should have been hobbying EXCLUSIVELY in Montreal...for legal, not financial reasons...I already allowed for the possibility that he did and could be registered on this Board. If he did, well Eliot baby, come on, man. I heard your press conference and that was a nice attempt to hold your head high, but you were not smart about this and it could have been avoided.

FBI Not Going After Escort Agencies

There is a misconception by some Canadian posters here that the FBI was after Emperor VIP. I have been reading the NYC Boards and it would seem Emperor VIP is an innocent casualty of an investigation of Spitzer by the feds.

Spitzer was being investigated because he was making large, suspicious monetary transfers and the feds suspected it was to launder bribe money. In fact, the transfers were to pay for a very expensive habit of seeing high priced, HDH escorts. When these transfers led them to Emperor VIP, the FBI had no choice but to bust them. But Emperor VIP was not the subject of the investigation- Spitzer was. The FBI does not normally care about prostitution or escort activities although in this case they uncovered a criminal enterprise crossing state lines as a result of the Spitzer investigation. Seems like Emperor VIP's real "crime" was having Spitzer as a client.

It's also being reported by some long time NYC hobbyists that Spitzer is a long time hobbyist. The FBI believed that the NYPD and NY State Police knew this and would never dare touch Spitzer. So when they found out that the suspected bribe money was actually transfers to see prostitutes, they had to act.
