OOOOOPS! Ashley Madison Affairs for the Married Site HACKED!

L

Lily from Montreal

What I don't get is how come there is so many who used work email,in the paper this morning they listed how many with .qc or .ca and even some in the military... it is beyond stupid.
I find it not smart when guy email me from their work address or real life address and I tell them as nicely as I can to get an hotmail or gmail one and not with a real name, still no need to go the vulgar route, you email me from ''bigdick2000, and I probably won't answer...
But on a site like Madison? It is as if they want to get caught?sigh

So I understand that this leaked list has been e-mailed randomly to people but has anyone actually received it?

I'm not sure if this will be then end of the Ashley Madison website. But if so, I do see new websites being created to fill the need of individuals seeking affairs.

One thing to know is that they the website did not confirm e-mail upon registration. Anyone can make an account with anybodies e-mail. You can even have multiple members using the same e-mail. Many of those addresses could have been used by anybody, maybe even by the hackers themselves.

Isn't that a very sloppy way to run a site? Even the free add sites I use sometime all have a confirmation email sent and you won't register if you do not click on the link...

From what I've read, the reason was so that people could not check if an e-mail address was already used on the website. If the website controlled e-mails, a wife could check if her husband was a member by trying to create an account with his e-mail (otherwise if he was registered she would get the error message saying the address is already used). It's still pretty stupid.

That makes sense Siocnarf, but one should use an e-mail unknown to the spouse, preferably one whose characters do nothing to do with one's identity in registering on such a website.

I think any married man or woman who has registered with that site has to be a total idiot. They love the risk.....and they may wind up paying the price.

indeed

Two Ashley Madison clients are reported to have taken their lives after hackers published their details according to police in Canada.

The police revealed the news at a press conference in Toronto but gave no further information about the deaths.

Hackers or inside job?

John McAfee: Ashley Madison database stolen by lone female who worked for Avid Life Media

Yes, it is true. Ashley Madison was not hacked - the data was stolen by a woman operating on her own who worked for Avid Life Media. The reason that I am so late to the second act of the Ashley Madison affair is that, without a supercomputer, it has taken over a week to finish the analysis of the massive data dumps that the perpetrator has so generously provided us with.

A hacker is someone who uses a combination of high-tech cybertools and social engineering to gain illicit access to someone else's data. But this job was done by someone who already had the keys to the Kingdom. It was an inside job...

I just read two persons committed suicide after being outed by the hackers...if they find them they should face criminal charges.

That's really sad.

One thing I don't understand is if they were going to be so devastated to the point of killing themselves why they wouldn't take the precautions of keeping their identity secret.

It's really not that hard to create an e-mail address or get a pre-paid visa card or any other form of payment they accept, to keep your personal information safe.

Then again if you being outed is going to get you to the point of taking your own life then you shouldn't be doing it in the first place IMHO.

I'm super going to disagree with you here, I'm sorry.

A lot of people suffering from depression and mental illness, even something that can seem very small and insignificant to us can be absolutely devastating to someone suffering from some form of mental illness.

None of these guys were probably prepared for their secret to come out so publicly, and that can make someone who may usually be a very strong person unable to cope with a scenario they never expected to face.

We have no idea what a person's situation is or the details of their relationship, or what lead them to that site, and it's absolutely none of our business, and it's so devastating that this situation may have caused them to take their own lives.

We shouldn't be victim-blaming those that felt that they had no other options than to take their lives, we don't know or understand them or their lives; instead we should be looking at the hacker's who thought they had the right to do what they did.

I'm Sorry Amber, my comment wasn't aimed at trying to blame the victim, I apologize if my post came out that way. (ok my last comment, maybe wasn't the best thing to write if I was going for not blaming the victim)

I agree with you on all your points. My point was basically that you should always assume whatever personal information you are putting online, no matter how secure of a site, can be made public.

This isn't the first time it's happened, It happens time & time again, Sony, Ebay, AOL, The US military even the FBI to name just a few! Be it by a hacker, someone working on the inside or simply a mistake from the company. Doesn't matter how big of a company your are or how much security you have.

The hackers or whoever was responsible at AM for releasing the names should face criminal charges like Lily mentioned, even to the point of involuntary manslaughter.

When you take a list of 30 million people, it is not surprising that there would be at least a couple of suicidal persons in it. Being outed may have contributed to their suicide, but it's often due to a combination of a whole lot of factors. I'm not sure the hacker could be held legally responsible for that.

This site (whoever dreamed it up) was a good idea. Unfortunately, their IT department was made up of a bunch of bafoons. LOL. Funny but true.

Lets examine a bit further..shall we?. Connect sexually deprived married people and make money..wow...good idea still right?. Unhh..hunnh..except most of ythe women that were on the site were nothing but high-end escorts and ratio of true men to women was 90 to 10.

Still brilliant..what a good idea...except the male clients were high end-sexually deprived bafoons too who thought nothing of security aspect of the info they provided to the site. Any pea-brain know these days..if you sign up for any sexually-oreiented ad or site, there is bound to be a leak...sooner..or later!.

See you later alligators...LOL!
