Great game by the Pens last night! If Winnick or Santorelli have to go, i hope Pitt trades for either of them and makes a long run at the Cup this year. The Pens or anyone from the Western Conference (besides LA again) would be nice to see as Champs.

He's lucky Brandon Dubinsky didn't kill him :yield:

They used to battle all the time, when he was a NY Ranger
Ps- Steve Downie isn't the answer for toughness

For now, Winnik is better than Sill. Let's see if he will stay in Pittsburgh

Also, you gave two draft picks. You better sign him

The Pens are trying to go all in this year when Sid and Geno are still young and relatively healthy. (Somehow I don't think Sid will have a long career, unfortunately.)

The picks are only a 4th rounder in 15 and a 2nd rounder in 16, so while they ARE mortgaging a part of their future, at least it's only a small part and it's spread over 2 years.

Also the Leafs are picking up half of Winnik's salary - and Winnik is flexible (not a star, obviously, but he can play all 3 forward positions and actually played well, given his limited abilities, with the Leafs!).

Sill, of course, is less than useless. The Pens likely INSISTED on the Leafs taking him as a salary dump.

From all accounts, Pens fans (and media) are pissed off that the Penguins gave up a 2nd-round pick for Winnik. They don't care about the 4th-rounder and the other guy. But as Joel Cairo stated, the Pens insisted that the Leafs pick up a part of Winnik's salary, which is minimal.

The Pens added some depth & do have to make more trades in order to remain competitive during the playoffs. That 2nd-rounder could have been used for another trade, but it's next year's pick, not this year's.

I say that it's not that bad deal for the Penguins. I'll add that the Leafs were fortunate to even get a 2nd-rounder for a journeyman player on an expiring contract, whom they might very well re-sign during the offseason. And the fact that the Leafs were able to unload him now makes it much better considering that he was their best player over the past month or so and they absolutely need to lose every remaining game in order to improve their chances of drafting Connor McDavid.

I have to say my player is and was always GENO...But Sid is impressive how he is playing.....But why do you think he would not have a long career???

He's had some SERIOUS injuries - concussions, cracks in first and second vertebrae , to go along with problems with feet, ankles and knees., plus assorted other things. Concussions ALONE are big problems that get cumulatively worse (many examples including Lindros), the ankles and knees also take their toll (again, numerous examples including Bobby Orr).

Plus he's got bad luck: slapshot by Brooks Orpik broke several teeth along with his jaw...he even got mumps. If it CAN happen to Sid, it seems it DOES happen to Sid. As he gets older the accumulation of injuries and bad luck rate to get even worse.
