Doc, how will the Leafs get Pitt's 1st rounder from the Pens if the Pens fail to make the playoffs?

If the Penguins fail to make the playoffs this season, they keep their 2016 first-round pick and the Leafs then get their 2017 first-rounder. But if Pittsburgh misses the playoffs both this season and the next, then all Toronto would get is their 2nd-rounder obtained in the Daniel Winnik trade at the end of last season.

In other words, if the Penguins either miss the playoffs this season or next, then the Leafs are okay and will get a 1st-round pick. That first-round pick is lottery-protected. So as long as Pittsburgh misses the playoffs, they'll get to keep their pick.

That kid Murray was exceptional at times last night. He's got a heck of a future ahead of him if he keeps it up. Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and Letang all played very well also. But they ran into a brick wall named Bernier, as you put it.

I also want the Penguins to do well. I want them to make the playoffs. If they don't make the playoffs this year or next year, then the first-round pick obtained by the Leafs in the Kessel trade becomes a 2nd-rounder. The Leafs need that first-round pick!

The Penguins seem to be back playing like they should. They easily beat the Islanders last night and they're now only 2 points from a wildcard. Insiders have told me that they've been playing considerably better under Mike Sullivan and at least goaltending hasn't been the problem this year, it's been injuries and mostly sub-par performances from Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel, who have recently started scoring again.

As a Leafs fan, my wish is for the Penguins to make the playoffs, preferably as a wildcard.

Kris Letang was named one of the three stars of the week. Sidney Crosby is back to being Sid the Kid. Malkin's playing well. The team seems to have settled down and are playing better as a group. This is good news and it looks like the Penguins may make the playoffs after all! That's good news for my Leafs! ;)

Crosby, Letang, Malkin and Kessel all played great. Fleury was very solid. Were it not for goalie Mike Condom, the Pens could easily have won the game 6-1.

The Pens are playing like they should, and the habs continue to lose. What is it now? 14 out of 18 that they've lost? And they keep on blaming their losses on the fact goalie Carey Price is out. Wake up call, habs fans: you need to score more than one goal a game if you want to win in hockey!

As for the Pens, they seem to be playing much better under new coach Mike Sullivan, a former Bruins coach.

It was a nice save on Crosby, but let's face it, if you look at the replay again you can see that he stuck out his glove even before Crosby shot. It's more like Crosby missed his shot and shot the puck right into the glove like it was a target.

As for the habs, they don't miss Carey Price. What they miss are goal scorers and players with heart. They've got one (Gally) and had another one (Prusty) but they gave him away to Vancouver.

That's what happens when most of the players on the team are either european or selfish hot-dogs.

Today the Penguins traded David Perron and Adam Clendening to the Anaheim Ducks for Carl Hagelin.

I think it's a good trade for both teams. Both Perron and Hagelin were disappointments throughout the season.

We miss Hagelin in NY :(

Perron turned into a cheap dirty player as his skills have diminished. reminded me of Maxim la Pierre and Patrick Kaleta

I have a feeling Hagelin will fit in quite nicely on that team with his incredible speed. I'd put him & Kessel together on a line. It would possibly be the fastest line in hockey.
