LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Pornhub has disabled access to its site in Arkansas in anticipation of a punitive new “age verification” law promoted by religious conservatives, set to take effect Tuesday. As XBIZ reported, Pornhub was previously forced to make the same decision in Utah, Virginia and Mississippi.

Earlier this month, Terry Schilling — the leader of the American Principles Project, a well-funded, anti-porn conservative lobby — took credit for the age verification laws passed in recent months by seven states, and admitted they were experiments so that the next Republican U.S. attorney general can prosecute anyone uploading adult content that could be seen by a minor.

On Friday, Pornhub issued the following statement explaining its decision for those attempting to reach its site from Arkansas:

As you may know, your elected officials in Arkansas are requiring us to verify your age before allowing you access to our website. While safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk.

The safety of our users is one of our biggest concerns. We believe that the best and most effective solution for protecting children and adults alike is to identify users by their device and allow access to age-restricted materials and websites based on that identification. Until a real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our website in Arkansas.

Act 612 was sponsored by Republican Arkansas State Senators is also known as the "Protection of Minors from Distribution of Harmful Materials Act."

The Arkansas law asserts that “pornography is creating a public health crisis and is a corroding influence on minors.”

According to a local ABC affiliate, the state law also makes controversial claims such as “pornography may impact brain development and function, contribute to emotional and medical illnesses, shape deviant sexual arousal and promote problematic or harmful sexual behaviors and addiction.”

while i aggree that interenet porn can be harmful for kids (I'm glad I did not have that access as a kid), this is obviously a lame attempt to do something about it.

I already can't stand a regular 2-step authentification. ''we have sent a code to your phone or email...''' gets really annnoying after a while

Porn is toxic mental poison for many reasons, and its destroying an entire generation of young men without them even knowing about it.

....But i dont know if i like lawmakers getting involved like this. Changes the focus of individuals to find ways to get it, not learn on their own. With vpn, its easy enough.....Pornhub knows this.

Fathers need to teach their sons about what porn does to their minds and people need to grow on their own..... the problem being, many fathers are probably in that trap themselves.

I wish they'd insisted on those ills a bit more in sex ed classes and such back in my school days. They were pretty good to tell you that hard drugs might fuck your brain up, but when it came to porn they were just like "its gonna turn you into a disrespectful dude that likes violent sex". They completely missed a lot of the other side effects like overstimulation and how it also rots your brain like any other addiction.

I am not so sure there is damage to teenagers with porn. The other side of the argument may be while it may lead to overblown expectations, it could also relieve sexual frustrations via masturbation to porn instead of inappropriately (like when not wanted) with a reluctant girl. Just like I believe sexwork can be positive and studies have shown in societies where consensual adult sexwork is legal, there is less rape or sexual assault since sex is easily available.

Many guys are more shy in their youth like me. I didn't date till a Jr in college Then I started making up for last time! . While not that interested in porn now, it relieved frustrations in my shy youth. I was fast growing (height) uncoordinated kind of fat kid that was picked on and hated gym or PE classes. But I think I turned out fine, and not damaged by porn.

I also think kids can have an attitude that the nude body is natural and not be ashamed of or made fun of. While not my big interest I have been to nude beaches, clothing-optional groups etc. While not sexual seems kids are well-adjusted and not hung up on seeing a nude body.

I recall leading a group of swingers teaching about sexual identity (Liberated Christians Phoenix Couples Group I led long ago) where had folks get naked and look at a man's backside of penis. See that line. That is where the vagina opening would have been if he developed female. We have both male and female physical potential which is why trans is not that hard to understand.
