I learned that on twitter as i woke up today. There is no factual release on the cause of death yet but it would seem its a suicide. Most likely linked to the cyber-bullying she got because she refused to work with a "pay 4 gay" actor in the industry. She mentioned her reason was STD wich have a higher probability in the gay community and she has nothing against homosexual in general. I am paraphrasing and resuming there, but thats overall the situation. A good portion of the adult entertainement community was with her, as in "she could fuck with who she wanted" but others didn't took it like that.

I find it very sad that such situation made this happen. Its her body, her decision to work with who she want. Peoples do not have to judge her for doing so. Its the same in our business here, whatever reason there is, nobody should be forced to work with a client/escort they don't want to.

She was a huge rising star, very popular, and she will be missed for sure. RIP

I don't really understand why she got so much flack over her position on this issue, but more importantly, I don't understand why getting flack on social media would lead any person of sound mind to commit suicide. I have gotten plenty of flack over posts I have made on MERB, but never remotely considered suicide. I think maybe something was not right in her head. Very sad.

Everybody is different. I personally wouldn't care if peopled would trash me on social media, i have my opinions and i am entitled to them, and i don't care if peoples share them or not. But i am not "famous" like she was. Her social "standing" is more important than mine. Maybe this was just "la goutte qui a fait deborder le verre" and she was having problems in her personal life. We don't know.

As for why peoples gave her shit for that? Well sadly its the social justice warrior's way these days. As soon as you touch even remotly to anything related to gender, sexuality, race or religion you got the legion of SJW coming at you like hungry vulture... Even if what you say is just right and reality.

I saw on her snapchat she was coming to Canada but didn't know it was montreal. What is she doing here? I didn't saw anything before yesterday about Canada and i follow her social media. Convention, bar dancing, escorting?

And yes you are right, August really looked like a good chill person. Its very sad.

I think the person has to be in a fragile state to begin with. People have always committed suicide, it is a mental illness. Maybe working in porn, or being bullied online are just new catalysts to already existing underlying suicidal tendencies

Me too I find this news to be very sad (on top of all the other shit that goes on in the world), and I can relate to it because I have seen her many times on pornhub. Beautiful girl.

Wow this is heartbreaking. August Ames was one of my favorite porn stars ever :(

I feel your comment lack a certain sensitivity. Maybe you don't get that sad or have never considered suicide, but statistically speaking, most of people have considered it. The reasons are numerous and we are not all affected by the same things. With that said, August possibly had many other issues going on, it's hard sometimes to think you are worth it when everyone says you're not. You are in no position to judge or say that ''since it wouldn't affect you, then it shouldn't affect her''. Depression exists, mental illnesses exist and you are in no position to judge or invalidate anyone's feelings. Sorry for the rant, but having lost several friends to suicide, I couldn't stay silent to such words.

I am shocked by your reaction. I simply tried to make sense out of someone committing suicide over criticism on social media, which is what was reported. It was not meant to be insensitive, although I think your reply was hypersensitive. You say "mental illness exists", of course it does, that is why I asked why someone of sound mind would do this. And your post is the most judgmental one in the entire thread. I made no judgments except to say that suicide is not something a person of sound mind would normally do, which it is not.

And despite your own presumptuousness and judgments, I do get sad and depressed and angry like everyone else. I deal with it in my own way. But not by killing myself. And you are not the only person who knows someone who has committed suicide, don't even go there. Sounds pompous and self righteous to say such a thing.

But why did she feel the need to go on social media and say that gays, bis and crossovers are more at risk of HIV/STDs...? And back herself up by saying that she’s not the only actress to refuse shooting with gays, bis and crossovers, and that she doesn’t know what these actors do in their private life... Didn’t she know that there are many gay/bi men still in the closet? You just never know who you’re dealing with...

maybe try to contact that replacement girl privately to let her know about her worries.

She didn't know who the replacement was. The point is personally i am tired to see peoples attack each other on some point of views. Its like the whole reverse thing. I am all for proning personal decisions and such. I mean who you fuck in your bedroom is none of my business. I find it pretty stupid homosexuality was outlaw at some point, like super ridiculous. BUT its also wrong to attack somebody because of there point of view. If she don't want to sleep with a known bisexual person, its her right for whatever reason. No matter if there could be closet peoples she does without knowing... Its none of our business if she decide to avoid certain peoples no matter the reason.

Its kinda like a situation we have on a different subject but that have similarities in peoples bashing other peoples. Its like the peoples from Antifa and those extreme left groups. They say there are anti-fascist but don't even realise they are becoming more fascist than the peoples they are suposely fighting against for being that way.

Its kinda like this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKDeyuM0-Og

I sugest tou watch it entirely. even if at first it may seem wrong to you. Its only 10 mins. I feel this is the kind of things we are seeing at times with certain groups.

By going to an extreme, they do as wrong as the very thing they originally wanted to fight against.

You’re a guy behind a computer screen, nobody knows who you are besides other Merb members that have met you.

She was a worldwide public figure with a large fan base with over 200K subscribers on Twitter.

Being in the spotlight sure puts pressure on celebrities, and when they fuck up, it’s a lot harder to dismiss what they did and said without having to face it and face everybody it involved...

Why bother having social media then? If you are having issues dealing with criticism of what you post, then why post at all? A lot of celebrities are on twitter only because they think that their opinions are somehow more important. I personally had no problem with the posts she was criticized for, but the point is, why bother having an account if the negative reaction to your social statements would be enough to drive you to suicide? It is not making sense to me.

EB she was only 23. Many are not experienced enough in life to deal with social media backlash of this level. I know i was not at that age. And who am i to judge i am offended sometimes (often) by the incredible stupidity i read here on merb even tho were all anonymous.

Add to that maybe some pre existing conditions... i flirted whith depression at some point in my life because of thyroid problem and its no fun not being capable to realise your loosing your own mind...

Cheers,

Very sad news... She was a great performer, a very open-minded one, one of my favorite pornstars actually. And she was Canadian... Just like Shyla Stylez, another porn icon who passed away recently at age 35, under circumstances that remain unclear. The porn business is a demanding and sometimes cruel one, it can kill you slowly from the inside if you don't get off the train in time. Well, it seems she decided to get off the train, ultimately, but in a way that is extremely tragic. RIP. For 30 years now, I've been working with people who want to commit suicide and I'm always upset when I hear that someone has decided to solve a temporary and reversible problem with the permanent and irreversible solution that suicide is...

Of course suicide is multi-factorial, you just don't kill yourself because of a single event that develops over 3-4 days; generally, in adults, the "suicidal process" is something that develops over months before a suicidal gesture actually takes places, often it's 8 or 9 months. But still, eventually, when your have reached your breaking point, a single event may be enough and then you do something that is irreparable.

I don't think it is related to one thing(in this case cyber bullying). It is multiple factors together, a solid well grounded person will not end his/her life over a tweet.

Nice video, but I’m not sure what it has to do with August Ames’ situation... Your video is about preserving a country’s or one’s culture, just like Quebec wants to preserve their French heritage by only allowing French or Bilingual signs, adopting the Bonjour-Hello greetings in stores

I think she said too much useless, ignorant stuff publicly. Of course her comments were going to offend gays and people fighting for gay rights. She could have discussed her issues with producers, husband, close friends or pornstars, or she could have tried to find out who the replacement girl was to talk to her privately and "warn" her about the possible risks...

Society needs a bit of politically correct and censorship, otherwise the world is going to get worst with people taking their freedom of speech to whole new and extreme levels.

The video was just to make an analogy about how SJWs stuff can be dangerous, and even turn upside down things. For instance in this case how anti racism pushed to an extrem could lead to racism in a different way. Just as when we had this long debate in a different thread about escorts and there decisions to see black customers or not. How one person personal decision that has nothing to do with racism or in the August case homophobia, could led to some peoples screaming it is.

Did she expressed herself right all the way? Maybe not. I didn't read the whole thing and i have not researched every statistic about gay porn to be honest. But she was 23 years old and probably could learn a lot more in life. Even if she expressed herself the wrong way, it does not justify peoples cyberbullying her and telling her to kill herself... I can understand expectied governement peoples to express themselves great and with double checked facts, its there job and there in charge. But here we are talking about a 23 years old pornstars.

As for society, there is already a criminal code to judge whats acceptable or pass as free speech and what does not. For the rest peoples should have the right to say what they want as long as its a personal opinion on something and not a direct attack on a person like she was the victim of. And if some peoples badly express themselves and insult indirectly some peoples by there comment... well those peoples can decide to not watch the stuff that first person do and/or support that person.

For instance i think the compagny EA in video games is a greedy compagny that does not care at all about there customers and gamers in general. There cancerous for the whole video game industry to be honest with there business practices. I decided im not buying any EA games in the futur. I will speak with my wallet. I won't go attack personally the CEO of EA or whatever.

Her body, her choice, ok, I agree. But why did she feel the need to go on social media and say that gays, bis and crossovers are more at risk of HIV/STDs...?

We live in an era of political correctness. People cannot state facts without getting attacked by the political correctness squad. What she said is truth and is true. The stats speak for themselves.

And back herself up by saying that she’s not the only actress to refuse shooting with gays, bis and crossovers, and that she doesn’t know what these actors do in their private life...

Yep I agree... Seems to be an error on her part but she was not a public relations expert or on the political correctness movement.

Didn’t she know that there are many gay/bi men still in the closet? You just never know who you’re dealing with...

True

I agree with this. We live in the era of political correctness and I do not care much for that. It prevents people from expressing their opinions and facts. If something is true but they cannot say it without being accused as racist or homophobic.
