Sometimes people say things. They don't always engage brain before they engage mouth and usually aren't conscious of the huge opening they leave for the perfect comment/retort to take them down. You're aware of it, it's resting ever so delicately on the edge of your lips, almost tumbling forth of its own volition. You can feel it, you've been dreaming of this moment and you yearn with every fibre of your being to unleash it, to feel the satisfaction of finally having the perfect response at the exact time you need it, and not a week later, but your glee completely evaporates when you realize that you have to override your lizard brain, and that for one reason or another your higher brain tells you that you can never use it, the response dies on your lips, and you can only sit and watch the moment and the opportunity vanish forever.
I hate that shit.
