Why? You don't see your romantic relationship as being a team?
It doesn't bother me if I know their relationship stats. I find it confusing if I don't.

Let's say I'm talking to a guy who's a real-estate agent and he introduces me to his "partner" (male or female).
- does that mean they both work as partners selling the same houses but don't have a relationship?
- does it mean the partner is a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/etc and they have a relationship?
- does it mean they are partners in some other venture, i.e a restaurant/bar?
- does it mean they're both cowboys?

Unless they are wearing chaps, it's very confusing

One word can have multiple meaning. I don't know what's confusing, languages are nuanced.
