2 years ago I was looking into retiring in the Philippines, found an agent she gave me a price for a condo rental near the IT park (really amazing place in Cebu city) I later found out that she was over pricing it at 500$ per month when the price is around 250-300$. I also spoke to a few Filipina and all the pictures they sent me were fake, that was deceiving and I decided to cancel this retirement in the Philippines.

Seems a lot of people are now retiring in Mexico, Playa Del Carmen, Riviera Maya etc the price for a condo is pretty good too, and you are usually near a beach. Not sure about this one, I have been to Mexico with my ex girlfriend back in 2011 Barcelo Maya beach club resort and it was an amazing place.

Its either that or like my financial advisor suggested me Levis near Quebec city. Cost of life and expanse are less over there. I still have time turning 52 in June never married no kids 11y single, taking care of my mother move back into family home she is 81.
Philippines? Why? You certainly can do better!

Philippines is OFF, I spoke to an Australian who live there for a while he was retired and almost got scammed, like he said Filipina want your money and someone to provide for there kids that are not yours. I have talking to this beautiful Filipina found out the pics she sent me of her were fake, when I ask her why she said we don't owe us anything and she blocked me.

Also the agent I was talking too was suppose to find me a condo for rent in IT Park Cebu she said 500$ per month when the real price was 250-300$ per month. Apparently there is a lot of stay dogs and cats (I am very sensible to animals owning 4 cats myself) so I don't want to be expose to that.

Good thing you did not go and I’m sure you will find a great place!

This may be offtopic but was curious if you have any info about retiring in former French colonies in Africa? I kinda feel they'd better but I may be wrong.
When I first heard about retiring in the Philippines I search google, what type of visa do I need, can I open a bank account over there and transfer money from Canada, cost of life, I called immigration with questions, scooted possible places I would like to live in the Philippines, I am single so I did try to talk to a few Filipina etc.

You need to do your research if you want to retire to Africa the process is the same, what type of Visa do you need, how to transfer money, cost of living and were you want to live over there.

England is beautiful but very expensive.

England is far from my bucket list, a short post.

However, a report from InterNations cites several drawbacks to life as an expat in the UK, including the often dreary weather, long waiting times for public healthcare, diminished freedom of movement, and high cost of living.

I am leaving Canada due to the high cost of living and snow. Portugal IMO would also be a great place to live.

When I wanted to retire in the Philippines I contacted HSBC Hong Kong bank there is one near me and there is one in Cebu, Now that would have been perfect to get interac and credit card since they expire or stop working. But HSBC in Cebu is not the same and when I spoke to the Australian guy he told me that opening a bank account in the Philippines if you are an expat is hell. The few expats living in the Philippines transfer money either from the US or Canada with credit union but you have to go to the bank with documents to prove its you and sometimes wait like 3h to get your money. Yes some expanse can be payed via e transfer like condo rent, electricity etc. but other things can't groceries etc.

The visa thing is also an issue, it expires, those are all things you need to check in the county you wish to retire. Like I said for me I am looking into Levis near Quebec city, you are near charlesvoix, lamalbaie and people are so nice over there, since Quebec is not Montreal like my financial advisor told me the cost of life is lower, a condo in Levis can go from anywhere to 200k to 300k, once its fully paid taxes and condo fee for the year are around 6000$, the rest of the money is for groceries, I know that my clubbing days have been over for a long time, night life, I never drink nor smoke nor do drugs, I do like to eat out sometimes, so with a pension, family home and investments i guess i will be ok.

But theses are all things you need to consider. Also been single for 11 years and I don't plan on getting back in a relationship, funny 2 weeks ago at the dentist the dental hygienist who is 47 asked me out for drinks 2 adult kids but she said I can't wait to be a grand mother. I wasted 9y in my other relationship giving and giving and never getting anything back. I told the hygienist sorry I don't date anymore, for me my retirement is freedom, I don't want to babysit her kids, kid or stay were I am cause the person I am with still as family in the era and does not want to leave.

Makes sense. Thank you very much for the information! I will do my research. I was fascinated with Madagascar and apparently a lot of French expats retire there. Also Ivory Coast also looked decent. Will check these out.

Like ThunderLipps said public healthcare in England is worse than Canada. A nice place would be where I don't have to wait for a year to see a doctor lol.
I have an excellent doctor here he is great, yeah that is scary for the health system. For the cost of life honest it really depends on your expenses. For grocery here I order at walmart great service, delivered at your door, just purchase what you want online, you get great deals too. The most important thing is when you plan to retire here or anywhere around the world is that you are debt free.

There was this 66y old guy at my job who had bought a huge truck 2 years before and still had a condo to pay with is girlfriend, he could not retire, but once they found a tumor on is kidney doctor forced him to retire.
