2 years ago I was looking into retiring in the Philippines, found an agent she gave me a price for a condo rental near the IT park (really amazing place in Cebu city) I later found out that she was over pricing it at 500$ per month when the price is around 250-300$. I also spoke to a few Filipina and all the pictures they sent me were fake, that was deceiving and I decided to cancel this retirement in the Philippines.

Seems a lot of people are now retiring in Mexico, Playa Del Carmen, Riviera Maya etc the price for a condo is pretty good too, and you are usually near a beach. Not sure about this one, I have been to Mexico with my ex girlfriend back in 2011 Barcelo Maya beach club resort and it was an amazing place.

Its either that or like my financial advisor suggested me Levis near Quebec city. Cost of life and expanse are less over there. I still have time turning 52 in June never married no kids 11y single, taking care of my mother move back into family home she is 81.

Have you spent much time in the Phils? It's best to at least vacation or stay there first for a month or three to see if you even like the place or can navigate day to day life there. I also would never look for an apartment in a foreign country without being there in person. In certain countries, scamming tourists or foreigners is a national past time.

The grass Is greener on the other side. The main requirement for changing the country of residence is to be fluent in the language and be in sync with the general people attitude. Otherwise, it is easier to downsize in your native country cutting expenses to a minimum and travel for extended time periods.

Not sure I would retire in Mexico. The country is so full of crime and corrupt government. Many tourists got killed vacationing in Mexico, imagine living there.
I've visited Mexico only three times, never opting for resorts but rather staying in small beach area hotels. One challenge for tourists is navigating the local landscape and avoiding potentially dangerous areas or situations. You might feel completely safe until suddenly you're not. This is because most tourists don't grasp the social nuances of Mexico until they've spent some time there. Having a local person at your hotel to offer guidance on these matters is invaluable, and it's wise to heed their advice. As others have recommended, steer clear of anything related to drugs. Getting involved with such individuals is risky—you never know what's in street drugs, and becoming entangled in the criminal justice system is something you definitely want to avoid.

You need to stay clear of danger area, tourist who got kill I remember, were involved with drugs, a couple went into a bar in Mexico city and flash there jewelry, the other one went into a no name bar at 1am and got into a fight with local.

Yes those area need to be avoided, but my clubbing days are over i never did drugs and i do not drink alcool.

Its like in Thailand, scaming is frequent , but what I hated the most is that I spoke to 20 or more Filipina and in the end they all told me they wanted a provider for there kids. So if the filipina is wife material like some say she won't do it for love but for your money. Anyways I scratch the Philippines off my life. Was suppose to go with a friend to see how it was and we cancel the trip.

Don't forget healthcare (quality and cost). Many people think about retiring in another country but ultimately stay in Québec in order to access "free" healthcare, or more accurately the one for which they've paid all their lives through their taxes.

There is a lot to think about for sure. Health care in other country is not that expansive, its more the hassle of your retirement pension and transferring money etc.

There's nothing wrong with them wanting security and a better future for their kids. If their basic needs are met, they will be loyal. More then I can say for ladies in western countries.

Thailand you kind of need to speak the language most do not speak English not like the Philippines. But Thailand looks a lot better than the Philippines. Indonesia too.

I am not at retirement age but now taking care of my mother and living in the family home, when its all said and done i can sell the house its a bungalow and its close to Montreal and the two mean highways, house like this one usually sell between 650k and 700k the house as been payed for a long time and we are renovating it now.

I also made a good profit selling my condo that I invested, but am to young for retirement at 52. I have time to plan there are places in Mexico that are safe and lots of expats there are Quebecers and Canadian, the beach is insane, its hot. But some condos are very pricy over there like 400k anyways will need to see when I am at retirement age. There is Levis near Quebec were some condos are below 300k and you are near the st laurent i like that too.

…from my pov, I’m experiencing a totally different scenario. I have now an athletic body. When I was in my 20s I was an ugly toothpick Ha!Ha!
