Elizabeth Roberts' 17-year-old daughter was put through the bureaucratic wringer to get a summer job in her home state of Rhode Island this year.

Under state law, the teenager could not operate a power saw, work on ladders or even pump gas. The state also regulates how many hours and times of day minors can work.

But in Rhode Island, where Roberts is lieutenant governor, the teen -- with a work permit -- can take off all her clothes at a strip club, even those where adult men can touch the merchandise.

Just this week the Providence Journal revealed that a loophole in the state's minor laws do not restrict girls as young as 16 from working as strippers, as long as they are home by 11:30 p.m.

This spring, while investigating a 16-year-old runaway who had been working at one of Providence's notorious strip clubs, police discovered that they could not prosecute, because there were no local or state laws barring teens from working in the city's thriving adult entertainment
business.

"To think that any minor could just as easily be employed as a stripper is mind-boggling," Roberts said. "This must end immediately."

In other parts of the country, even in Las Vegas, there are age limits on strippers, according to the report.

why, you have a problem with young women? Grow up. Until a year ago, it was legal to bone 14 years olds in Canada, these days the legal age of consent is 16.

I have been to Providence more than a few times and seen some providers there. The climate there is much, much safer than in Connecticut or Massachussetts. I have a friend there who specializes in seeing non-pro college students for $150-$200 and from what he tells me they are easy to hook up with. You have a lot of colleges, Brown, URI (in Kingston), Johnson and Wales, Providence College, just to name a few.

The city has some good Italian restaurants as mentioned previously. The airport is somewhat primitive but is easy to get in and out of and is right next to I-95.

I've been to Providence many, many times. It's very close. Back in the day the old Fantasies Gentleman's Club was incredible for being able to touch, as in Montreal contact clubs. But I think a stripper under 18 was very, very rare. The women I remember seemed to be all college students. Many said so.

Consensual sex is a far cry from working as a prostitute from any number of viewpoints.

We are speaking about two things

1. the age of consent. 16 in Canada.
2. the age a girl can legally work in a strip club or as an escort. In the united states there is no age for the latter.

again, tell me how adding a year or two shifts your stance from 'sick' (sic) to morally and societally acceptable.

Actually I believe it was the case here in Canada when the age of consent was 14.
