Should agencies post restrictions and categories SPs want to see ?

Hello my neighbor Canadians,


There is a thread recently about a SP who did not want to see east Indians.

To save time and embarassment on both sides, shoud agencies post on the web sites the restrictions that SPs will only see ?

Examples like: Will only see males of a certain weight and height and certain ethnic and socioeconomic background, blue eyes blond hair only and make a minimum salary per year.

No self preserving agency will post on their web site that type of information (wheather you consider it descriminating or not) or at least I belive it to be againt their best economic interest to do so. It will make no bussiness sense.

What should happend though is the person handling the phone should address this issue with the customer when in doubt, provide the info up front about the fact that the girl does not want to meet people of certain types.

There can be good reasons for an SP not to want to meet people of their same ethnic background, for example, as they migth be identified in the future within their community.

So as long as the information is provided with tact, must of us will never know if these girls have issues or not, and most of us will just pick another girl and move along.

I agree with Canadian Joe, that as convenient as it may seem for the client to do this, many will view such a posting as an agency's tacit approval of such restrictions and will reject doing business with them. In short, it is professional suicide. If the SP wants to restrict her business that is fine, but why should the agency go down with her?

The only time I have seen "racial restrictions" posted on a website is with some indies in the US Deep South who have in the past posted things like "professional black men only" and "for caucasian gentleman" only. Never saw it in Montreal.

Agreed. The reasons you cite for keeping such restrictions private seems very logical, and the solution you offer seems reasonable. Some ladies I have spoken with have cited exactly the reason concerning their cultural community that you mentioned. There are also other reasons that have nothing to do with racial, ethnic, or social bias; although bias and/or prejudice cannot be ruled out completely. I don't believe meeting the rates of the agency should supercede all other concerns. Though this is a business it is a business with particular implications for human beings because of it's stigma in general society. Overall, I don't think anyone, in THIS business, should be made to serve clients they don't want to see just because the price is met and the situation cited above is reasonable justification for being selective.
