Unconfirmed reports have him missing the start of the nhl season. These reports may or may not be true but usually where there is smoke there is fire. Once you have two or three concussions it seems the next concussion happens that much easier even with a lesser blow. There have been many boxers and ufc fighters early in there career where you could hit them with a hammer and not knock them out but at the end of there career they get knocked out by not much more then a jab. Two great examples of this from the ufc is Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva. I hope i am wrong but i don't believe that Crosby will ever play a full season again and won't be playing hockey by the time he is 28. Eric Lindross went downhill very quickly after one concussion to many and i also believe that because of injury we have seen the best of Sid the kid, his best days are behind him. This will be a giant loss for both pittsburgh and the nhl if this does happen.

The problem with players suffering concussions back then is that little research has been done. They figured they just got their bell rung & it was embarrassing for them if they missed a shift. Take the Eric Lindros situation. Then Philly GM Bobby Clark turned this whole thing into a fiasco when he began to doubt Lindros' heart for not feeling well enough to play. This occurred after Lindros nearly lost his life while sharing a hotel room with then-teammate Keith Jones. The team doctors had misdiagnosed Lindros (i believe it was a collapsed lung at the time) and had sent him back home, but not before they let him fly on the team plane (with a collapsed lung!). Lindros was furious afterwards & blasted the team's medical staff, which infuriated Bobby Clark.

Bobby Clark would be driven out of Philly today if he'd react the same way he did back then.

I was watching an NFL game last Saturday night & some of the hits were absolutely brutal. On top of this, it was only a preseason game. I wondered how many concussions NFL players suffer during their lifetime. Like a boxer, the numbers must be astronomical!

Lets hope your wrong JJ. BUT, he has been out for such a long time and for all the specualtion STILL surrounding Crosby, it does not bode well for him. Lets just hope the Pens are being Extremely cautious beyond the norm. (as they should be with the games best player)

As regards Crosby, he should take as much time off as his doctors believe he should take.

If he needs to take the whole season off, so be it.

Under no circumstances should he be hurried back, or be put under pressure for an early return.

I fear if he returns before a complete recovery his career may well end way too soon.
