Can an American who has travelled to Canada recently give me a quick executive summary on what's required now to travel to Canada as related to Covid? I know someone who is unvaccinated and he seems to think he will be allowed into Canada.

According to my knowledge after first /APRIL in CANADA only fully vaccinated peoples will b allowed to come.....plus RANDOM testing can b made to passengers to detect covid....if you are one of them and positive could b a nightmare.
Thanks- just told them. They are trying to arrange a trip and it sounds like it's not going anywhere because one of the key guys isn't vaccinated at all- no shots

Flying requires negative testing no earlier than 1 calendar day prior to departure time of flight to US. No testing requirement for driving.
finally wont need to do a covid test to return to canada starting this weekend...lets see with the rise in cases if Justin continues the yoyo game with the border. they are fast to instore measures but really slow to remove them....so slow that by the time they do things have changed again...like now and like in early december...
I think the real test will be next autumn. Now we see an increase in hospitalisation but with warmer weather we might see this wave will almost vanish in June. People will be mostly outdoor, students, teachers and a lot of people in vacation during summer... and then with the return of September, classes opening, people going back to work, colder temperature, windows kept closed... Let's hope for the best, but let's keep our attention on what will happen, or maybe not, if people keep their vaccination status up to date. I don't see both US and Canadian governments removing the vaccination requested to cross the border in the next few months. When they will do it, it will be for good. Canada is not alone in this crucial decision. It goes both ways, to get in Canada and to enter USA.

Vaccination is the key. For Canadians fully vaccinated (2 shots) no test are required to flight back in Canada since april 1rst. I have no sympathy, zero, niet, nada... for those refusing an easy solution, a vaccine. Since a while numerous kinds, numerous technologies, mRNA and conventional ones, are free and easy to get.

I can give you a summary of my trip a couple of weeks ago. Downloaded the ArriveCan app (make sure you have the latest update from 5/15). Fill out the basic questions of where you are going, how long, name address phone number, etc. Upload your evidence of vaccination. No need for proof of COVID test within 72 hours of travel that you experienced before. The border crossing was quick. They asked for my passport, where I was going, and how long I would be there for. Then they asked if I filled out the ArriveCan form. They checked online. Everything was fine and I was on my way in 2 minutes.
In Montreal, almost everyone wore a mask on the Metro(But there was always that 1 guy who didn't) Hurley's was packed on Friday night. I didn't see anyone wearing a mask(guinness tasted great.). I went to see Cirque du Soleil on Saturday night and even though the website advised attendees to wear masks, 90 % did not.
The day after I returned from Montreal, I received an email from the Canadian government.:
"This message is to remind you that you are required, by law, to follow any applicable quarantine and testing obligations.
According to our records, you were selected for Mandatory Randomized Testing. This means you MUST complete a Day 1 COVID-19 Molecular Test within 24 hours of entering Canada. . . . A screening officer may contact you to confirm your compliance with these requirements. You are required to answer all phone calls from 1-888-336-7735. Failure to comply may result in fines of up to $5000 per infraction and/or transfer to a designated quarantine facility."
I was never told by the border agent that I was selected for a random testing. After I read the email, I checked the cell phone that I used in Canada - there were 4 voice mail messages from that phone number that came the day after I left Canada. I got back on the ArriveCan website where there was a mention about receiving emails that don't apply to you. I wrote back saying that I had already left Canada and was never told about being selected for testing. The next day I received 3 more phone calls from that number. I called back, but it was just a voice recording. 2 days later I received an email saying to ignore the original email.
LOL. I hope when I return in a few weeks for the Jazz Festival - I don't get hit with a $5000 fine and.or get transferred to a designated quarantine facility!
That was extremely helpful. Not. Reminds me of the people that say "just Google It" instead of answering a simple question. Suggesting I go to the "official Canadian government site" without even providing a link means your really not contributing anything and just wasting our time.

So basically the same rules apply from last year except now you don't need the negative PCR test prior to crossing. That's good to know. I'll be in the Adirondack region in NY. I can head over for a quick bang or two, and get back to NY with enough time to play 18. Thanks!

i went through something similar 6-9 months ago. i was getting harrassing robocalls from health canada, but there was nothing to do in my case as I met requirements such that i did not have to do testing...i called health Canada and CSB agency, and the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing...fucking BULLSHIT!!! To quote Justin Douchebag: " we will do everthing to keep Canadians safe - including irritating, waste of money and ressources non-sensical things against better judgement, just so we are giving the appearance of doing something so we can maybe get re-elected"
