Ben Shelton just straight setted Casper Ruud who is #5 in the world at Cincinnati. They felt he was ready for the pros after that performance and he may very well be part of a very good future of American tennis. BTW his college coach was his father Bryan Shelton, who is a former professional tennis player from back in the 1990s.

I think Serena will be playing her last singles match next round. She has gained lots of weight since having her baby and isn't moving so well. Last night she was sucking wind in the second set and she can't do a 3 set match. She was fortunate she drew Kovinic, ranked #80 and sporting a 17-15 record in singles this year. Next couple matches will be much tougher. In doubles she has more of a chance as she will not need to move as much.

I wouldn’t call it an upset. I actually predicted that she would get eliminated in her opening match. She sucks & hasn’t won a single tournament since last year. She has barely won any matches since last year’s US Open major upset. She is the perennial one-hit wonder & had zero business winning last year’s tournament. Last year’s win was only matched by this year’s Kentucky Derby in terms of upset.

Her ranking has not changed much in the last year, and has actually gone up. She was ranked #19 end of 2021 and now she is ranked #11. Her peak ranking was #10 in July 2022.

More proof that women’s tennis sucks. Until yesterday i had no idea that Venus Williams was still playing tennis. Serena Williams can barely move and is always totally gassed after the first set yet people still talk about her like she’s a top player.

At least the great Steffi Graf retired when she was still on top of her game instead of a caricature of her old self.

I’m sick and tired of these old tennis players that have nothing better to do with their lives & can’t let go. It’s time for some new blood. It’s time for a new batch of young female tennis players to come forward and make their mark. The fact that the likes of Andreescu & Raducanu came out of nowhere to shock everyone & win the US Open over the last couple of years & yet haven’t been able to come close to their US Open proves this. At least the men’s side has shown potential to move past the likes of Federer, Nadal & Djokovic.

The future looks very bright for the men’s game. The women’s not so. Raducanu’s record this season is 11-18. She didn’t even pass the second round in many of her matches. She didn’t win a single tournament. Many would say that she hasn’t been able to handle the attention & pressure of having won a grandslam. To this i say wrong, wrong, wrong. She simply isn’t good enough & last year’s upset win was nothing but a fluke. She’s just another Genie Bouchard.

And don’t get me going with Jumbo Osaka, who obviously hates playing tennis & feels forced to keep on playing because of the money. She’s just like the majority of escorts: they only do it because of the money.

La relève du tennis féminin repose maintenant sur des JEUNES talents......SWIATEK----#1--is by far the best player and my fav. to win next week......fun to watch....SAKKARI is also a very talented player.....GAUFF......bright future,,,,

yes women's tennis has changed...il évolue...lot of new faces....will we have other dynasty like the WILLIAMS/GRAF???.....j'en doute....BUT beaucoup will put on a great show.

Kontaveit looks like she has a strategy of moving Serena around but so far in the first set it's not working so well. Kontaveit although #2 seeded has not come close to winning a major. A few 4th rounds and one quarterfinal. No semis or finals. However it's been a good match so far. 5-5 in the 1st set

Brilliant first set tiebreak, won by Serena. Kontaveit tried a soft drop shot that didn't work as she continues to employ a strategy of trying to move Serena around as much as possible. It might work if the match goes 3 sets as Kontaveit has managed to extend games and points with these tactics. But Serena is moving a bit better than in her first round match.

I hate to say this because I generally don't like tanking in sports, but down 3-0 and 2 breaks, Serena needs to tank this second set and save her energy for the 3rd set or she is toast.

Impressive win tonight by Serena. She played an exceptionally strong third set and was hitting the ball very hard the last few games. Kontaveit was not good at all on the big points. She hasn't come close to winning a major and in this match I could kind of see why.

Yep.....impressive win....again it was all SERENA in N.Y.....beautiful to see the fervor of the crowd.....just incredible.....magnifique.

Not the same for LEYLAH.....it was previsible playing vs a solid/powerful hitter....and bye bye FÉLIX......décevante performance.......BUT surprisingly MARINO still on her way....same for ANDREESCU......and great COCO holds on.... :)

I do think that for some reason Serena has a real chance to win the title. If I was in betting I would put some bucks on her.
