This last phrase is a bit harsh... But not all provider are service oriented the same way. I don't mind having to interact totally in English, in fact I find it sexy, but WTF the attitude you seem to show. You said at first that when you are the consumer, it is your choice. Why not the same when you service a guy paying you? I don't expect an answer... Good Luck Princess!
I said the ones who DEMAND. Even as a consumer, I won't FORCE the other person to talk English. They talk what they talk and we make do. If not we miscommunicate, then so be it and move on ending communication as quick as possible. I'm not going to go out of my way to demand they speak English. (Unless it's a telemarketer, to avoid the telemarketing call in general, it removes you from the call back list faster then telling them I'm not interested 100x)
Especially if who I am talking to struggles to understand English, I will attempt verbally with people in person, written they can use the same tools I have to understand them. I won't put it threw a translator before sending because I can't check that the translator didn't mess up my message. The person useing a translator knows that it might not be 100% accurately translated, but when you recieve a message in your language you take it at face value. I actually encourage them to continue texting in French so they can get their clear message accross as they would like, rather then struggle trying to find the right words in English and having poor quality messages. I don't DEMAND they message in English. I want quality, and ease in their self expression rather then struggling to share their message.
I have been, and will continue to be in places with many people, who often speak either or both languages. I will be quick to admit my struggle, but I also recognize where I am, and with others will offer it's ok if I don't understand for the betterment of others. I appreciate when the effort is made so I am not left out. I don't DEMAND they cater to me, I will just accept not being part of what is happening while I struggle to keep up, or retreat into myself while being completely lost but not wanting to disrupt the flow for others.
