As we say in finance: past performance is no guarantee of future results.And there it is. It all works perfectly, most of the time, until it doesn't. You do the best you can with the information you have, but the system will break down again at some point. There's no real need to rationalize it, just as long as you recognize that that's what it will be like in the future too, and plan accordingly with whatever (if any) mitigating actions you take.
