JAYS WIN!! JAYS WIN!! JAYS WIN!!

They beat the Rays 1-0 to sweep the series.....the Jays' second consecutive series sweep!!!

Red Sox will be in 1st place in just a few days......as for the Stankees, is this the day where the Jays finally pass them in the standings? :D :D :D
The answer, Doc, would be a resounding YES. The big questions is whether or not the Stanks can catch the Orioles on the way down. It will be tough, but I have faith.

Hello all,

Final: Red Sox 3 Devil Rays 0. Lester pitched a very solid 7.2 innings. The Sox are now only 1/2 game out of first place and 7 games ahead of the Twins for the wild card. Not a bad night.

Cheers,

Korbel

I got to see it in person tonight Korbie, much thanks to a fellow Merbite. Excellent game, tons of energy throughout the park tonight, eye candy galore, and the record breaking 456th consecutive sell out crowd, it was great!! :D

The Stankees were embarrassed by the Angels tonight by a score of 12-1. Carl Pavano barely lasted 5 innings in allowing 5 earned runs, which included 2 homeruns. Yep, he's back to being the Carl Pavano of old!! :D :D :D

Angels, Yanks scuffle in opener

ANAHEIM -- The Angels and Yankees got into a bench-clearing fracas in the sixth inning on Monday after Yankees catcher Ivan Rodriguez and Angels center fielder Torii Hunter got into a shoving match at home plate.

The incident occurred after Hunter was tagged out at home plate by Rodriguez (VIDEO) to make the second out of the inning. Rodriguez tagged Hunter at the plate and then shoved his glove backward in a swinging motion and Hunter took exception and shoved Rodriguez in the back on his way to the mound.

"I don't know what happened," Hunter said. "It happened so fast. I don't know if Pudge thought I pushed him or whatever and he pushed me and I pushed him back and everything blew up."

Part of the confusion was that Hunter stepped on Mike Napoli's bat after being tagged out and accidently bumped Rodriguez. Rodriguez thought Hunter purposely bumped him.

"I was trying to be clean on the play but I stepped on the bat and maybe he thought I bumped him," Hunter said. "So he pushed me and it was just my reaction to push him back."

Rodriguez then came after Hunter and appeared to throw an open-handed swing in Hunter's direction before both benches and bullpens cleared onto the field. Hunter was not hit by the wild swing by Rodriguez and no one appeared to be injured after the scuffle.

Baseball players must be the worse fighters out of any other sports. Rarely do you see them hitting their targets when they swing. Most of the time, they usually look like a bunch of sissies swinging wildly at one another during a brawl.

As for Pudge, his reaction shouldn't be unexpected considering the team hasn't exactly been playing as great as a lot of people figured once he was given away to the Stankees by the toothless Tigers. I don't remember a season where they got blown away out of stadiums so many times! Heck, they got blown away so many times that they should even change their name to the Bangers!! :D Seriously, a lot of frustration had been building up inside Pudge & it simply needed an opportunity to come out. He might as well have stayed in Detroit!

I watched a clip of the brawl on ESPN & they mentionned that the Yankees pitching fell dizzy while in the dugout & had to be examined by the Angels' team doctor. Considering how Yankees pitchers have stunk this year, it's no wonder that it would start to affect the coaches, especially the pitching coach! Poor guy!!!

It will be quite interesting to see who the Jays throw in the doubleheader in Boston on Saturday. It won't be Halladay, who pitched last night. It won't be Marcum, who pitches tonight. It won't be Litsch, who pitched in the doubleheader on Tuesday.

They're throwing Purcey on Friday and Burnett on Sunday. They need two names for Saturday. Any ideas, Doc?

Right now, the plan is to start Purcey on Friday, then Litsch & Burnett for the doubleheader Saturday on 3-days rest. Doc Halladay would get his normal start on Sunday.

Doc Halladay will NOT get his normal start on Sunday. He pitched last night and, hence, will go on three days, if that's the plan. If Burnett does go on Saturday, Litsch would make more sense on Sunday.

I stand corrected. But i just read in the Toronto Sun that as of right now, the plan is still to go with Litsch & Burnett on Saturday & Halladay on Sunday.

Correct, from what I've read as well. That means the Jays will be starting three pitchers on short rest between Saturday and Sunday.

Litsch and Burnett each threw 112 pitches on Tuesday. Halladay threw only 89 on Wednesday. With a good weekend, the Jays can get themselves into the wild card hunt.

I wouldn't be surprised if tonight's game is rained out & the wind up playing a double header both on Saturday & Sunday.

They're forecasting rain for tonight which is supposed to last until tomorrow morning. If it's rained out, this might be good for the Jays. If this happens & i'd be the manager, I'd go with Purcey & Richmond tomorrow, then go with Burnett & Litsch on Sunday. They could then have Halladay fresh to begin their series against the Orioles on Tuesday, then Marcum on Wednesday with an extra days' rest. Purcey would then go next & you'd then have Burnett & Litsch fresh for their next weekend series, with Halladay closing that series.

You wish Doc,

Sorry Doc, but it is in and final. The "good guys" won this one.

Cheers,

Hey Joe.t, my bet losing friend. You've been awfully quiet in this thread, almost hoping it would just go away, kinda like the useless bag of overpaid souls down south of Beantown. Lol.

Hopefully we'll be seeing you at the Devilish GT to pay off your bets!! :D Otherwise, I accept paypal as well. HAHA!!

If you want to find Joe, you'll have to go back to page 38 of this thread, from which he disappeared on August 3rd, just as his sorry bunch of overpaid losers tanked.

A little further search shows that he hasn't vanished from merb, just that he's too much of a coward to show his sorry face here. That said, I'm willing to wager $160 that he's peeking here on a regular basis.

Yep just like I thought and the curse of Kevin Kennedy lives on, last year he predicted the Yankees to win the division and this year he predicted the Red Sox which neither came true, it will be interesting to see who he predicts will win the American league, I have a sneaking suspicion that he will pick the Red Sox.:)

The Angels have chosen the 5 game format, meaning each team will need only three starters. While the Sox have serious offensive questions, with Drew having only 2 plate appearances in the last six weeks and Lowell not likely to play, I'd never bet against a team running out Beckett, Matsuzaka, and Lester in this series.
