Look at the overall talent level and the number of all-pro quality players on the winless or 1 win teams. Look at the bottom to top / top to bottom, cycle that is very evident in the NFL and lacking in baseball as exemplified by the AL East, Red Sox / Yankees and the rest
I'd love to respond to this, but I have no idea what you're saying. Can someone please make sense of this?

I think what Eastender is trying to say is that the talent level in the NFL is pretty much spread out all over the league & all teams have a similar talent level. Thus, this increases the chances of parity around the league & the main reason why some teams are much better than others is due to better organizations, scouting & especially coaching. In MLB, the rich keep getting richer & the top talent in MLB are lured by those rich teams. And, the poor keep getting poorer. This isn't seen in sports such as NHL hockey & NFL...and to a degree, the NBA.

Is this not also true in baseball? Look at the consistent success of the Minnesota Twins and Oakland A's? Look at the current success of the Indians, Rockies, and Diamondbacks?

While the best team in the world may have had the second highest payroll in the game, where would they have been without Dustin Pedroia, Jonathan Papelbon, John Lester, and Jacoby Ellsbury?

When will we kick off the Hotstove thread? Start a new one or continue here?

Lowell to the Yankees? A-Rod to the Sox? It's gonna be interesting this off season.
I think we'll need to give the thread a new name for 2008. "The Special K Red Sox Dynasty thread for 2008" has kind of a nice ring.

As for A-Rod to the Sox, never in a zillion years. I think that Mike Lowell pretty well sealed the deal over the last two weeks. Give him three years and $42 million and keep him around a bit longer. The difference between his numbers and A-Fraud's is more than compensated for by what Lowell brings to the clubhouse.

Parity Simplified-NFL

Since the 2000 season the Boston Red Sox have won the World Series twice while the New England Patriots have won the Super Bowl three times.People overlook that New England also finished last in their division once.

Bottom to Top / Top to Bottom
In the NFL with 8 divisions and thirty-two teams there is a greater degree of parity evidenced by the following, even allowing for re-alignment:

AFC = 16 teams/4divisions x 4 teams,at least once.
11 out of 16 teams finished first,13 out of 16 teams finished last, 14 out of 16 teams made the play-offs, 8 out of 16 teams finished first and last during different seasons.Only Buffalo(sorry Doc) and Houston never made the play-offs.

NFC = 16 teams/4 divisions x 4 teams,at least once.
12 out of 16 teams finished first,13 out of 16 teams finished last,14 out of 16 teams made the play-offs,9 out of 16 teams finished first and last during different seasons.Only Arizona and Detroit never made the play-offs.

A less detailed look at MLB is very revealing - simply 9 out of the 30 teams have not made the play-offs since 2000 - Toronto,Baltimore,Tampa Bay,Kansas City,Texas,Montreal/Washington,Milwaukee,Cincinnati,Pittsburgh.

So what you state is that 4 teams have not made the playoffs in football, while 9 haven't in baseball. What you don't account for is that more teams in football make the playoffs. Of the 9 teams that haven't made the baseball post-season, three of them, Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Baltimore are pretty much blocked by the high spending behemoths at the top. Football doesn't have a similar situation. (And of those three, Baltimore and Tampa Bay have also been horribly mis-managed.)

In baseball, there have been 8 different champions in the last 9 years, until yesterday no team winning twice. In football, one team has won the title four times.

How do you get 9 years between 2000 and 2007? Grade one arithmetic. Only 8 years or seasons for baseball. If you include 1999 you get nine with 7 different champions, the Yankees and Red Sox winning twice each. Either way your point is vapid.

Again, I don't understand how something so simple could escape your astute knowledge.

Again your lack of clarity and total unfamiliarity with facts and basic counting amazes me. Which team has won the Super Bowl four times since 2000?

New England has won it three times. We are talking the NFL now. Not the DFL that is part of your experience.

A little counting error. I sometimes get overwhelmed trying to decipher your "English." No sense continuing this. It's really quite difficult to dispute one's points when one makes no point.

People learn English in the same school where they learn to count, where they learn geography, where they learn basic history, economics, etc. Sorry cannot help you.

And, of course, by your logic, or lack thereof, having studied each in the same school, one should be equally proficient at one field of study as another. If such is true, logic was clearly not offered at the academy at which you studied.

Trying to make sense of your responses is fruitless. Have a field day; you've had my final response.

Hello Rumples and EE,

One wonders why any of this is important enough for arguing.

Dunno, Korbie. Frankly, I often don't even know what he's arguing about or what point he's trying to make. Don't think English is among his first two or three languages. I refuse to discuss beisbol in French or Popti.

Some pseudo experts when exposed try to project or deflect their weaknesses onto others.

Only one person on the two boards has problems with my English - Rumples. Ironically,Rumples is the same person who has shown that he cannot count, does not remember geography , uses statistics selectively - as illustrated by ZM and habitually insults and belittles other posters. You are welcome to him.

Hello EE,

I like you. You're perfectly consistent....thus completely predictable. Going to the VICTORY parade tomorrow. Watch it. I will wave hello to you.

Re-Writing History

rumpleforeskiin said:
Korbie, there's nothing quite like a man with nothing to say who takes forever to say it. I've actually met the man in person. A couple of years back when I was under attack from Montreal's no. 1 know-it-all, EE contacted me and asked me to meet him so he could let me know that he knew even MORE than no. 1, making him Montreal's no. 1A+ know-it-all.

Talking very slowly and at great (and grating) length, saying, as is his wont, practically nothing, I spent the greater part of an hour trying to extract myself.

If there's a perfect position for the man, I'd say it would be as ombudsman of a failing board that's forgotten what it's about and has turned it's attention entirely to itself. Perfect for EE: a board about a board. What a fabulous place for an endless discussion about nothing.

Back to baseball: enjoy the parade. And look for Joe under each rock along the parade route.

Rumples,

As usual re-writing history. Remember your comments that I was ".....making too much sense...." and thanking me for "..... help in exposing the exposer...".

Memo to Korbel and Rumples. Sometimes the save page option works faster and better than the edit or delete option.

Everything has been saved in the original unaltered form Rumples. The Soviet style propoganda does not work as the board members are alot more sophisticated than you imagine.

Ahh! Finally got it. You want me to speak in riddles too. Sorry, I prefer to be direct, eschewing obfuscation. Unlike you, I can speak intelligently and directly.
