and you are going to play 4 more games this season than the Leafs if you make the playoffs, and still no parade down rene levesque, your point? like i been saying , if ya dont win the Cup this year, well..... i think you fear the rest :)
present = 29th place

future = what future? The Leafs will suck ass for another 43 seasons! (not so much as a sniff of the Stanley Cup finals)

Leafs fans live in the present & future. Habs fans live in the .............PAST.

Amen.

Lafffs fans have been saying this since...1967!
Yeah, the future looks bright alright. They were saying this in the mid 70's with Sittler,MacDonald,Salming,Palmateer,Ian Turnbull et al.But they FAILED and never achieved anything. Then the same scenario a decade later; The Leafs are the team of the future with Steve Thomas,Wendel Clark,Gary Leeman,Al Iafrate,Alan Bester,Russ Courtnall,ect...they were so young, talented and promising, they used to say in hogtown.Yet once again history repeated itself.
The Laffs FAILED!
Talking about the present, the Habs are 5-1 since the Olymic break,a resounding 18 points ahead of the red-faced overrated inflatuated drunken's bunch of sore losers...
As for the future, last time I checked Gomez,Camalleri,Gionta,Pouliot,Price,Halak,Markov,A.Kostsysyn,Lapierre,Georges,Bergeron ,S Kotsytsyn,Subban,O'Byrne all ahve plenty of good hockey left in the can. They are all mid-20 's early 30's so thier decline is still a good 5-6 years away in the worst scenario.By then the management will have had time to make a few good acquisitions (such as Pouliot,Bergeron,Camalleri,Gionta,Gomez, all helping their team WIN hockey games)...

Why does having no real direction with the Habs bother you so much? like most habs fans you only talk about them if and when they win.

What are you talking about, the Leafs had some great teams of the ones you mentioned and played some great hockey, it is not easy to win a championship, ask the Boston Red Sox or the Chicago Cubs, but having the Team clean house and FINALLY start over is exciting for the fans, and it is a good thing for the NHL to have Toronto be a good team, not to mention it is gonna be great for Canada. Do you realise that even up to just a couple weeks ago 4 out of the 6 Canadian teams were in danger of not making the playoffs?

Anyways, Gainey has not left you much room to sign Plekanacs, and a goalie, thats about 10 million per year combined, and last i looked i think the habs had something like 3-5 million to spend, PLUS you need to sign some of your own free agents . and the scenario is the same for the next several years, so we shall see, WE SHALL SEE!

I must admit as a kid growing up watching hockey I liked the 70's Leafs, they were exciting to watch but no match for the Habs or even Boston or Philly. And Tiger Williams was such a bad ass SOB!One of the players I hated the most but miss so much,They dont make like him anymore. He could play hockey, was though as nails and a f***ing agitator! He had pride.
I remember the 1979 Habs-Leafs quarter-finals when Tiger went after the ref at the end of the fourth and final game won by the Habs in OT on a powerplay thanks to Williams. He went nuts and was saved by Robinson of all peoples!
Nowadays the Leafs just dont do it for me,there is no emotions,no real hatred between teams,no pride in wearing the jersey.:(

I thought using this word was a no-no ?? Haven't you read the rules stated by the Mod ?

It seems that a little clarification is required. While I wish to keep the main hockey discussion clean of such terms, this thread as well as the Leafs thread are open to 'freedom of expression' as long as things do not become personal attacks or personal insults. Use of such terms in any thread meant for serious discussion is frowned upon.

Carry on.

Latest stats:

Detroit: 68 games played, 78 points, 33-23-12, 8th and in playoff position
Montreal: 70 games played, 76 points, 35-29-6, 7th and in playoff position
Toronto: 68 games "played", 58 points, 23-33-12, 15th, hopelessly out of playoffs and in 29th (2nd last) position overall

Note that TO has lost 10 more games than Detroit and won 10 less. No surprise there!

Goals for vs. Goals against:

Detroit: 185, 185 = even
Montreal: 191, 194 = minus 3
Toronto (ho hum): 182, 230 (!!!!!!) = minus 48!!!!

Last 10 games:

Detroit: 6-2-2 (Very good!)
Montreal: 7-3-0 (Very impressive!)
Toronto: 5-4-1 (By leaf standards, amazing! Even though 1 of the wins was against an Ottawa team decimated by the flu, another was against a Boston team decimated by injuries, and a third was against the 30th place Oilers. Still, give the leafs credit: for them to win half their games, no matter WHAT the circumstances are, is nothing short of a freakin' MIRACLE!)

Cairo, you forgot to add the Sharks to the list. Like you with the Red Wings, my scapegoat team should also be part of the list. Fair?

now doc be nice, our favorite bandwagon fan (oh, sorry, i mean 2nd favorite, hihi, my bad,) not only knows the future of his real team is dim at best, also his scapegoat team, the Detroit Dead Things are fighting to even make the playoffs, meanwhile you know it burns Scabs fans to know that for finally in a long long time, the Leafs are headed in the right direction for once, otherwise they wouldnt waste a second even talking about Canadas Team.

and for the record he didnt mention my scapegoat team either, which is FAR better than his , matter of fact, my scapegoat team is winning the cup this year.

AHH the true Fan comes out again..... the EXCUSES! bwahaha. i knew they wouldnt be far behind , so typical. "they were sick" (waaaaaaaaa) "they were injured" (waaaaaaaaaa) ... get over it,. there all professionals, but then again habs fans have been whining about their team being injured all season so it doesnt surprise me. btw even your scapegoat team is getting healthy these days, but there old tired legs might keep them from winning much if they even make the post season

If the Leafs finish in 29th place this year, at least they have something to shoot for next year that they actually have a chance of reaching...30th place!

Remember the old saying about people in glass houses? Well, fans of a team in second to last place really shouldn't be commenting on teams that are going to make the post season. How can you actually write posts about how great your team is when it probably couldn't even compete in the AHL? Oh well...there's always next year and that 30th place to aim for. And golf.

only a habs fans could say leafs fans think we have a great team, so typical, lol, we have a good young bunch of guys with tremendous upside to build a very good team around, that is a couple free agents away from being a playoff team and a contender in a few years. but i would not expect anything less from a scabbie. and dont worry Tech, your team will be playing golf soon after the leafs, lol. good luck the next 4 or 5 years, your gonna need it

n. How can you actually write posts about how great your team is :
