Did you know that you can not exchange your US spare change at banks here in Montreal? I had accumulated 100$ worth of nickles, dimes and quarters, so i rolled them up and brought them to the bank and they refused to accept it, could not even deposit the amount into my US account here, strange i think, money is money, paper or coins. I guess its harder to get rid of coins and if maybe you are thinking that its rolled and it could possibly be Canadian coins in there, i cracked open a random roll to show the lady it was US funds. Is there a place i can go to exchange these coins, besides across the border, which i could if i have to, heading to lacolle this weekend, so i could dip across but what a hassle these days.

This is true for every country. No banks will ever accept foreign coins.

My local bank in the US has a machine that allows you to convert US coins to cash, and I do so whenever I accumulate roughly $30 in coins. I had assumed all banks offer this service for their customers. But, I wouldn't expect any bank to allow cashing of foreign currency coins.

The high in the last 15 years was in January @ 1.4602

After the recent spiral downward, it has rebounded a little in the past week to this morning @ 1.3284 :thumb:

I recently got a Canadian Quarter in my role of US Quarters. The bank didn't seem to mind.

The US$ has been falling a bit, but Oil's increase (25%) has been the main reason why the C $ has been rising.

Do you boys think the dollar will keep declining or make a comeback over the summer months?

The Canadian dollar will go up, just my opinion.

Reading the news today, from what I read you US visitors should buy Canadian sooner than later if you need to. Claims that the upswing of oil prices are causing the US dollar to go down and strengthen the Canadian dollar and also foriegn oil exporters. Good because I am taking my family on a east coast tour this summer, trying to find as many waterparks as possible.
NOTE: If you have a laRonde seasons pass they are good at any 6 flags.

Oil just dropped recently, perhaps the reason. Looking at a 3 month graph on oil prices it seems to go up and then go down 30% then about a 70% gain and the cycle continues, will see if the Canadian dollar follows that graph.

$1.32 today. Been looking into hotels and they have been raising their prices to adjust for this.

It's not the USD rate that is causing the rise. It's the summer peak travel season. For example, the Hyatt's lowest rooms have pretty much been sold out for the past two months all the way until mid August. Other hotels which were readily available back in April have also been consistently sold out since May. Loews Vogue for August is $399 vs. the coming November $229.

Back in January/February when the fx rate was even more in favor towards Americans ($1.40CAD/USD), hotel rates were cheaper (Loews Vogue for $199 instead of current $399).

Works for me :) I tour in the States all the time and on a long trip, the difference between the currencies alone pays for the trip.
Speaking of San Diego and LA... That's on my list for August!

Current predictions are that the rate will be close to 1:1 by the end of the year.

If this happens and the rates the SPs charge doesn't sink with it, business from US customers will drop as we will all stay home and try to make do with what we have.

Reminds me that I need to call my local provider and make sure I give her some business.
