Just heard on Primetime Sports (Sportsnet/FAN 590)

J.P. Morosi of Fox Sports is the current guest on the talk show and it's been reported that Red Sox owner John Henry was spotted in Seattle today. Now people are speculating that it's imminent that Bobby Valentine will be fired.

Morosi told the panel that he has no idea if that's the reason why Henry is in Seattle, but expressed his belief that Bobby Valentine will not be back as manager next season, adding that he's simply not been a good fit on that team.

It was reported yesterday in the Boston press that Henry's trip to Seattle was planned long ago. It is, however, becoming more and more obvious every day that Bobby won't be back next year, if he should manage to finish the season.

I wonder if Girardi will also get the boot if the Yankees miss the playoffs. They're five games under .500 since the 18th of July and have lost nine games off their once huge lead. The way things have been going the last six weeks, it's looking more and more like Baltimore will win the division, with Oakland and Tampa the Wild Cards.

The Yankees have had injuries catch up with them. They are missing the middle of their order the last week. Granderson and Teixeira are out and A-Rod just came back, plus the bench guys have gotten too many at bats and are wearing down. The starting pitching has not been so great lately, but Sabathia was out 2 starts, Nova is hurt and Hughes is pitching well if you take away the 32 homers he has given up, which of course you can't do. I still believe that if they heal up and Pettite returns to form a possible 3 man playoff rotation with Sabathia and Kuroda, they will be the team to beat. Things could get dicy the next week or so, but after that the schedule is favorable, including games against the Red Sox who have already packed it in for the year.

The Yankees have had injuries catch up with them.
As of two weeks ago, the Yankees had lost 15% of their payroll to injury, pretty much league average. Of course, the raw figure is quite high considering their total payroll. By comparison, the Red Sox have lost an astonishing 40% of theirs to injury. The Padres are a distant second at 30%.
They are missing the middle of their order the last week.
True, but the problem goes back six weeks, not one.
The starting pitching has not been so great lately, but Sabathia was out 2 starts, Nova is hurt and Hughes is pitching well if you take away the 32 homers he has given up, which of course you can't do.
The Yankees have two reliable pitchers in Kuroda and Sabathia. They've lost Sabathia's last two starts, today through no real fault of his own. Kuroda is getting no run support. Nova is likely done for the year and Hughes sucks. Pettitte is likely to return, though with the minor league season, he won't get the 3-4 rehab starts he needs to get into form. He'll have to do that at the MLB level: good luck with that.
Things could get dicy the next week or so, but after that the schedule is favorable, including games against the Red Sox who have already packed it in for the year.
They do have a favorable schedule after they leave Baltimore next week, that is true. What is also true, however, is that they're losing to good teams and bad, witness the loss of the home series this past weekend against Toronto. What is also true is that they're an old team and wearing down. What is also true is that Baltimore is an absolutely unbelievable 24-7 in one run games, a bubble you'd have expected to burst long ago.

The Red Sox have a lost season; one thing that could redeem it to some degree is knocking the Yankees out of the post-season. They're a dead team walking; expect them to rise to the occasion.

Update: The latest injury is to Robinson Cano. Looks like he might miss a game or three.

OMG!

Translation: The Yankees are one game from losing the East Division and it's time to inflate EXCUSES!!!

Hey Beav, would you like to bet me that Iggy won't be coming at you to tell you you're full of shit for using the old injury excuse like he has kept telling Red Sox fans for years. Hey, I understand it, but YOUR pal thinks this is crap....then again, since it's a Yankee fan saying this he'll probably back you.

BTW...what is "too many at bats"??? Doesn't more batting practice equal more efficiency, or are you really saying your boys are too old to get through the season. :D

Yeah. peeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

SEATTLE (AP)

Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington admits his current team "is hard to watch."

Cherington offered the assessment before Boston fell to Seattle 4-1 Monday. The Red Sox have lost a season-worst seven in a row — all on the road — while being outscored 58-16.

Boston has lost eight of 10 since sending stars Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a nine-player trade. The Red Sox are 62-74, a year after being one of baseball's best clubs.

Cherington called the team's sad state is "a reflection on all of us."

BTW - The Yankees have been losing since getting Ichiro, Seattle has been winning. Great trade Yanks.

Yanks will be fine.... a Healthy Pettitte is like adding another top pitcher to the staff late in the year, any team would kill to get that this time of year. Yanks have lost key players to injury, true, but are in the race simply because of Cashman's smart decisions and the Depth they have. While true the red sox have lost more players to injury, it is the quality of players lost by the Yanks that have hurt them, but then again, that great depth and a great gm has kept them from a wash of a season, unlike the red sox. Not easy to replace one of the all time greats like Mariano R. and have a guy step in and not miss a beat like Soriano. (gotta give credit to our awesome owners on that one tho, not Cash) Having David Phelps groomed and come up from the minors has been key for us as well. Rapada and Eppley were big signings by Cashman. Joba will likely be left off the plyoff roster unless he really starts to throw well.... he needs a REAL spring training and he aint gonna get that in september.

Baltimore i must say have been a good team most all season and i am very happy for Showalter, finally he gets a team built that maybe just maybe he will see the fruits of his labor and not be shipped off only to see his team win something w/o him. Took a former Yankee to get them this far and so happy for him, but still wanna beat his team.

Red sox??? not much more can be said but "pee uuuuuu" really, nothing more can be said :thumb:

I corrected your spelling. By the way, the last time both the Yankees and Sox missed the playoffs was 1993.

Eerie...how similar this is to postings made in years past by myself, Merlot and others referencing another AL East team who faced "the injury bug".
Postings for which we were then CHASTISED relentlessly for by Yankee fans......Beav, did you plagiarize our work and change the names......LOL!

KNOCK, KNOCK (rather peck, peck).

Josh Reddick, Player of the Week

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Oakland Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick was named the American League player of the week for the period ending Sept. 2

Reddick batted .387 with three home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored in seven games, helping the Athletics go undefeated for the week. The 25-year-old posted the most RBI in the major leagues and finished second in total bases with 23.

On Friday, Reddick hit a grand slam during a nine-run seventh inning against his former club, the Boston Red Sox. The Athletics won the game 20-2, marking the fourth time in the club's history in which they were able to produce that many runs since moving to Oakland in 1968.

Must have been quite a shot!!!!

But why did Girardi go totally bonkers???

p.s. I've been hearing since yesterday that he'll get fired at the end of the season if the Yankees fail to make it to the playoffs. My opinion is that he'd be a great fit in Boston.

How would you feel if your team just blew a 10 game lead to the Baltimore Fucking Orioles?

That's if he lasts that long. I hear that he and Bobby V have a fishing date next week in the Florida Keys.

My opinion is that he'd be a great fit in Boston.
I'm going to ignore that last remark.

The Yankees have just lost their 10-game lead!!!!!!!!

Baltimore easily beat Toronto, and the Rays beat the Yankees tonight.

The Yankees are tied in the East with the Orioles, while the Rays only trail them by 1.5 games.

Three teams are tied for the 2 final wild card spots: Yankees, Orioles & A's. TB trails those teams by 1.5 games, while Detroit & the L.A. Angels trail them by only 4 games.

What a finish it'll be!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb:

Go Orioles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

O-M-GGGGG!!!

Don't look now but the Yankees once huge lead in the East is now totally GONZO! In the meantime the Orioles have cut the Blue Jays to pieces. Expect the injury excuse machine to go into overtime.
