Jeter...dare i say he is on his way to being a top 10 player of all time before his 1st ballot hof career is over? Top 5 maybe?
You certainly dare say it. And you certainly dare be wrong. At the moment, Jeter is the 83rd best player in baseball history. He'll probably make top 70.

Meanwhile, this from noted Birther, Donald Trump:

Donald Trump demands that A-Rod be dropped in Yankees batting order

Of course he does. Donald Trump issued his demand on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, though it wasn't known whether he already had seen Joe Girardi's lineup for ALDS Game 3.

Yes, Alex Rodriguez is staying put in the No. 3 spot against the Baltimore Orioles, no matter how many media outlets or rich folk clamor for a change

Regardless, The Donald let his opinion be known as only The Donald can:

A-Rod must be dropped in the Yankees line-up tonight if they want to win. He simply can't perform without drugs.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 10, 2012

It would be kind of a funny tweet if anybody said

Pete Rose is a scumbag. If Ty Cobb is the Dick Cheney of baseball, Pete Rose is the George W. Bush

You bet. Wotta story.

He is the Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid. He is the Bobby Valentine of politics er of baseball LOL!

Go Tigers! Go Verlander and Miggy and Biggie!

How do they do defensive WAR? How do they know how much ground Ty Cobb could cover? They don't even have film. Have they decide on a formula or how to weight it? Ben Zoberist was the AL WAR leader the past four years. Do you believe that he was the best player? I am not thrilled with WAR.

Jeters got Pud Galvin beat and he will catch Old Hoss Radbourn.

...he will catch Old Hoss Radbourn.
Ain't nobody catching Old Hoss.

As for your first question, it's done through a number of measures. How many outs did he record, either by assist or by catching a fly ball. How many were caught by other center fielders of his day? What was the ball park factor? (Given the size of ballparks in those days, I doubt ballpark factor was much at all.) What was the makeup of the pitching staff, ground ball vs. fly ball vs. strikeout? Throwing all of these factors together, you can, if you have the right formula, come up with a pretty good idea.

Have you ever looked at Retrosheet? It's amazing how much of baseball history they've been able to reconstruct.

Today's quiz: who is the highest priced bench player in baseball history? Hint: He's only got 5 years and $119,000,000 left on his contract.

The Yanks displayed that Pride Guts and Determination that has been a fixture of this organization since the beginning. I think of the teams in the AL playoffs, the O's were overall the most dangerous for the NYY but Detroit will give the us a run for our money. Celebrate quickly guys, series starts tomorrow night.

Confirmed, Jeter fractured his left ankle & he'll be out a minimum 3 months.

Why don't they put A-Rod at shortstop? That's his natural position, which many may have forgot. You can't expect Nunez to step into Jeter's spot & be as productive. Okay, i'll admit that A-Rod sucks & that he's on the tail-end of his brilliant career, but still.....doesn't he still have something like another 3-4 years left with the Yankees? And isn't he still the highest paid ballplayer in the majors? He deserves to be in the starting lineup every game now that Jeter's season is over!

My first thought was Arod at ss and he might feel and play like a allstar again with the new role, but Nunez will be Jeters replacement in a cpl years. I would go with Arod at short and Chavez at 3rd. I would say Nunez as DH but RAH-OOL deserves that. Yanks in 6!

Why? A fractured ankle is very routine. Worse case scenario he will not play Santa at his annual childrens charity parties this Christmas, then again, i would bet he still does! :) That Pride Guts and Determination thing ya know? ;) Why it would not surprise me if he starts in the world series this year,,,,, ok, that may be a reach but ya get the idea of the heart of a champion the great #2 is. :thumb:

I wonder if this may not have been Jeter's last game ever?

All true, Doc, except that it's five years remaining on the shards of a once great career.

Clearly, the Yankees fucked up. Why didn't they sign Jose Reyes to be Jeter's back-up? They knew Jeter was old and fragile and wouldn't likely make it through the playoffs. I mean, shit, if you're going to buy a championship, buy it right. No? Look at their closer. They knew they had a fragile old man, so what did they do? They signed Rafael Soriano to be his backup. Even with Rivera out, the Yankees still have the highest paid closer in baseball, tied with Papelbon. Why didn't they sign Pujols to back up Teixeira? What are the Yankees coming to, cheezing out on the salaries and short-changing the empty seats at Yankee Stadium.

Now, they're desperate and, short on starting pitching, they're running Kuroda out on three days rest this afternoon. Lose this one and they're down 2-0 and staring down the barrel of Justin Verlander on Tuesday.

Could this be a sweep, I dare say?

Oh, and by the way, the Yankees starting shortstop is not A-Fraud, nor A-Roid, nor Pay-Rod, not even Nunez. The Yankees starting shortstop is Jayson Nix. So says Girardi.

Buster Olney: "Cano, Granderson, Rodriguez, Swisher, Chavez are now a combined 10-for-104 with 37 strikeouts in the postseason."

Which part of Pride, Guts and Determination does this exhibit?

All of that from a last place Red Sox fan.

Let's see facts speak louder than BS. Is Jeter fragile and old?

Jeter played 159 games, had 683 AB, scored 99 runs, had 216 hits, batted .316, hit 32 doubles, 15 home runs.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/3246/derek-jeter

Is this old and fragile? No.

Is the resident Red Sox fan spewing his hate speech and venom against the much better team New York Yankees, who won 95 games and the AL East title? Yes

Sounds like a classic case of sour grapes to me.
