 Every team has a future, but a future of being a good team, aka a playoff team is at best 2-3 yrs away for the red sox, likely 4 years or more in reality.Enjoy the next 2-4 years rumpie!

Reality and Facts are two words that are foreign to rumples, I whole heartitly agree with your assessment of the current Red Sox situation, 2-3 years would be a major accomplishment, the more likely scenario is 4 or more years, if, and that's a big if they can turn things around, especially with a owner that seems more interested with Liverpool these days.

It's shocking to me that a hitter as talented as Robinson Cano could go 0-26 and set the record for postseason futility especially after the 24-39 streak he went on to end the regular season, but he has always been a bit of a wildly streaky player and from what I see, he has been trying to do too much.
Cano is certainly a great player, but this is the post-season and he appears to lack the kind of pride, guts and determination shown in the past by such as Curt Schilling. Also failing in the PG and D department, are Rodriguez, Teixeira, and Swisher.

A-Rod plays field

By EMILY SMITH, New York Post

He’s got balls.

Shameless Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez was playing so poorly against the Detroit Tigers Saturday night that he was yanked from the lineup — but that didn’t stop him from trying to score.

After being replaced in the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, the highest-paid Yankee openly flirted with a pair of pretty women two rows behind the dugout — even sending them a ball bearing a note asking for their phone numbers, a witness told The Post.

“I watched him flirt with two admittedly very cute young women nearby,’’ the witness said.

Instead of rooting on his teammates as they struggled to stay alive during the tense game at Yankee Stadium, A-Rod, 37, had a ball boy toss the young women a baseball inscribed with a message asking for their numbers.

“Alex was holding a pen and wrote a note on a ball which was thrown at the women by a ball boy,’’ the witness explained.

“The girls, who had already caught two balls, seemed bemused at first and tried to hand the ball to another fan, but other fans noticed the note on it and yelled at them to read it.

“The note asked them to write their phone numbers on the ball and throw it back,’’ the witness said.

“One of the girls, with darker blond hair, wrote . . . on the ball and threw it back at A-Rod, who gave her a big smile.”

“They exchanged a few glances after that,’’ as A-Rod took a powder while a pinch-hitter took his place at the plate.

Raul Ibanez performed under pressure, tying the score in the bottom of the ninth.

In the 12th, team captain Derek Jeter broke his ankle — and A-Rod finally wised up, the witness said.

“The flirtation stopped once Derek Jeter got hurt,” the source said.

The Yanks wound up losing 6-4.

They also lost again to the Tigers 3-0 on Sunday.

Fans sitting behind the dugout at Saturday’s game said they were disgusted after witnessing A-Rod’s shenanigans, which were more befitting a sixth-grader than a serious ballplayer.

“I was absolutely stunned that even . . . A-Rod would not be focusing on such a critical game, supporting his teammates, and was instead more interested in adding another couple of phone numbers to what must be a very, very large collection,’’ one said.

A-Rod’s rep referred questions to a team spokesman, who didn’t get back to The Post last night.

Rodriguez is currently dating wrestler Torrie Wilson.

As Page Six revealed last year, Jeter also has used baseball memorabilia to win over the ladies.

After bedding a beauty, he’d send her home alone with gift baskets of autographed memorabilia.

The thing is, Rodriguez always behaved this way. However, he was a good hitter back then. He didn't suck as much as he does today, so people didn't make a big thing about it & just let it go as 'A-Rod being A-Rod'. But now that he sucks & doesn't seem to care that he's robbing the Yankees & their fans, people take notice & fucking hate his guts!

The worse part is that this bum still has five years left on his contract!

I feel for Cano, considering how demoralizing it must be to be playing next to a nonchalant bum like Rodriguez, who doesn't give a fuck about the team & the only piece-of-shit he cares about his himself: A-Rod.

WOOOW!!!!!

Iggy? Joe? DD? EB? Chercher? No PRIDE as a Yankee ...the GUTS of a snake ...the DETERMINATION to serve himself. Can any decent Yankee fan excuse this behavior, or will they just point a finger at someone else???

Anyone want to bet Iggy won't use one of his patented..."I agree with Doc"...lines this time.   :D

This is what Rodriguez is. He's the self-absorbed cheat. This is the cheat guy who yells on base paths to distract fielders, slaps gloves in front of millions then says he didn't, and stole $325 million so far based on steroid fraud, while being owed up to $30 million in all of the next five years if he reaches contract milestone incentive markers for home runs. He needs only 13 HRs for the first marker so expect a selfish guy like A-Rod to swing hard for himself instead of trying to make contact for the team. In 2012 he took 13.78% of the team's payroll for 4.26% of the team's performance. The older he gets the more his salary will be a hugely disproportionate burden compared to what he contributes...and he doesn't care in the first place...HEY LADIES, yeah, it's me A-Rod, Mr. Mega-millions. Don't pay any attention to those guys on the field. You know I'm Da Man.

I am really interested to see who signs Hamilton and for how much. I see him mainly as a stat compiler and not a winner quite frankly.

If you mean by not a "winner" that he's far from a good bet to be worth what he will demand, then true. The kind of terms I would take him for are those he would never consider, less years and a salary partially dependent on durability.

Verlander versus I Could Blow Up Any Time Hughes. Miracles, I wouldn't count on one. It's bad enough to rely on iffy Hughes, but against Verlander on a roll...YIKES!!! :D

Cheers,

Actually, Merlot, I think the Beav's fingers slipped and he typed "Hamilton" when he meant to type "Rodriguez." And to think that the Yankees will only be hamstrung by this guy who can no longer hit a BP fastball to the tune of $129 M over the next five years. Fortunately, they're only into Mark "Rob Deer" Teixeira for four and Curtis "Dave Kingman" Granderson for one.

When you think about who will be gone, Soriano, Swisher, Kuroda, Suzuki, and Martin, examine the flotsam that's left, and consider the Yankees plan to cut payroll, you wonder how long it might be before they have another winning season.

He has helped us win a World Series and will go into the HOF as a Yankee. What more do you want from a slumping and aging ballplayer? He is or was never gonna be loved ala Jeter, so what? I dont hate the guy and never will..... he had some great Yankee years and still might... It is what it is... he is who he is... if he can hit and produce he will be cheered, if he cant, it will not be any fun for him. Btw... making half a billion and being benched is not the end of the world either, i am sure he would rather be playing but i dont think it will crush him or the rest of his life.

This is what red sox fans have been reduced to and i F'in LOVE IT! :thumb: please do carry on "boyzzzz" lol.

I must admit that i've admired Joe Girardi during these playoffs. The guy has guts, and he's proven it by benching that prick Rodriguez & that overrated showboat Swisher. These two are hurting the team (along with Granderson who swings at everything) and it wasn't easy i'm sure for Girardi to bench their egos. Cano isn't doing shit either, but there's no one to replace him with right now. I like Robinson Cano. I'd take him on my team anytime, along with Derek Jeter. Okay, a younger Jeter!

A younger Jeter, Doc? He only had one of his best 2 seasons ever this year, maybe you slipped him some of your "hgh" ;)

Swisher is the nicest guy you will ever meet, he has an enormous personality and thats never a bad thing, and incredibly humble.... the guy is beloved in NY.

I'm hearing Gary Sanchez behind the plate, a healthy Micheal Pineda, with the possible additions of Grady Sizemore or BJ Upton in the field with many more possibilities for next year,Yup, i'd say that the Yankees are off to a fantastic 2013 season already, I can't wait to see what Red Sox management has in store for the their fans for next year.

Joet, dont forget a fully healthy Gardner.... rumps can spew all about how he saves runs and makes those sabre stats seem relevant...to sum it up, Gard's is a defensive GEM! not to shabby with the bat or on the bases either, would of been scary to see just how good the Yanks record would of been with him in the lineup for 150 plus games this season. Dont forget Banuelos will be fully healed by spring training as well.

Jeter took the same stuff i've allegedly been taking over the past 3 months: HGH. Can't blame him & i encourage everyone to give it a try. You won't believe the results. What i meant to say was that i'd take a Derek Jeter in his prime, without the HGH injections into his butt.

On another note, i'd still take Robinson Cano on my team, even though he seems at times to suffer from A-Rod disease (doesn't seem to care). My #1 choice would be Dustin Pedroia, but Cano would definitely be #2.

As for Swisher, you should enjoy him as much as you should, since tomorrow night will likely be his final game as a Yankee.

Now, what the hell should the Yankees do with the A-Rod problem? They're stuck with him for another five years!! Should they hire a hitman to rid them of their problem?? Inquiring baseball minds want to know.

p.s. I think i know what Granderson's problem is: he needs to consult with an optometrist. Seriously!

Bombers might be bombing, but Yankees fans are worse for booing their team at home

by Gregg Doyel, CBS Sports

Spend $100 at a restaurant, and you have rights. You have the right to yell at your waiter for bringing you the wrong cut of beef, for example. Other joints get your order correct, and they do it with a lot cheaper menu. This place can't get it right, at these prices? Yell at the waiter. Find the hostess and the chef and give them a piece of your mind, too. You spent good money to be there, you know.

Be an unforgiving jerk. That's your right.

So, um, Yankees fans ... see my point here?

Nah, you probably don't. Which is fine. Tell me my restaurant analogy is wrong. Call me soft. Sneer at my political affiliation.

And keep booing your home team, you unforgiving jerks.

Yankees fans embarrassed themselves during the first two games of the AL Championship Series. They couldn't fill their stadium for either game, but those who came damn sure could boo their own team -- one of four left in baseball -- right off the field. Alex Rodriguez hit a line drive at the left fielder, and the crowd booed. Nick Swisher lost a ball in the lights. Boos. Curtis Granderson struck out. Boos.

Not all of them were booing, no. But lots of them. Most of them? Maybe. It's hard to be precise when a stadium sounds like Yankee Stadium sounded on Sunday night, angry noise coming from all over the ballpark. This column is not written to say all Yankees fans boo; therefore, all Yankees fans have no class.

Nope, not true. But what is true is this: The ones who did boo were unforgiving jerks.

This isn't a Yankee-centric opinion, OK? This goes for any fans, anywhere, who boo their home team for the sin of failure. It was alarming how bad it was, how ugly it was, for two games at Yankee Stadium -- but it happens all the time, all over the country, by fans who cling to their story like a pacifier: "Paying for a ticket gives me the right to boo."

And that's true. It does. But I'll say it again, because I can't be too clear: Booing the home team -- your sports family -- makes you a jerk.

You wouldn't raise a kid that way. At least, I hope not. Little Johnny comes home from school and shows you his math test. He failed it. Scored a 57 out of 100. You're mad, you're embarrassed or even scared -- is my kid stupid? -- and you lash out. Little Johnny already felt rotten for bombing the test, and now his dad is yelling at him.

Is little Johnny going to pass his next test? Maybe, maybe not. But one thing he learned: My dad's a jerk. I just failed a test, I feel about 3 inches tall, I'm worried that math is going to be a struggle, and here's my dad -- supposed to be on my side -- making me feel worse. Thanks, Dad.

That's you, booing Yankees fan. In the past two seasons Granderson has hit 84 home runs with 225 RBI and 238 runs scored. In the past two games at Yankee Stadium, he struck out five times in seven at-bats. Clearly he failed the test. Probably, after letting down his teammates, he felt 3 inches tall. And what did he learn as he walked to the dugout amidst a barrage of boos? He learned the home crowd -- supposed to be on his side -- was making him feel worse.

Thanks, Dad.

Don't take my word for it. Take the word of Swisher, who once was embraced by Yankees fans for his gritty play, his aggression, his passion. When he messes up, it's not for lack of effort. But he messed up in the first two games of the ALCS, losing a ball in the lights in Game 1 and striking out twice in Game 2. And the crowd let him know: We do not approve.

Which is riotous, really. A guy like Nick Swisher, he's really trying. Same goes for A-Rod and Granderson. They're not loafing. They're taking batting practice before the game, not naps. They're also playing a sport where the failure rate for a star is 70 percent, and where a player's true value cannot be measured in one game, one week or even one month. Get hot at the right time of year and you're Scott Brosius, hitting .383 in the 1998 postseason. Get cold and you're Curtis Granderson or Nick Swisher, being booed out of the building.

And the players? They notice.

"It hurts," Swisher said after Game 2. "That's the last thing that I ever thought would be in this ballpark, that people would get on you that bad. Especially your home, where your heart is, where you've been battling and grinding all year long."

Baseball is a mental game, more than any other major sport. All that waiting between pitches gives a player too much time to think. A few years ago when A-Rod struggled at the plate, the boos at home got to him so much that he couldn't play the field, either. That doesn't make him mentally strong, no, but it makes the home crowd stupid. Booing a baseball player isn't going to make him better -- but it sure could make him worse.

The Yankees fans who booed their own players, they don't get it -- or they just don't care. They paid good money for those tickets, you know. And so when Nick Swisher struck out in the seventh inning of Game 2, a one-run game in the ALCS for God's sake, pockets of Yankee Stadium broke into song:

"Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye."

See, Swisher will be a free agent after the season. And if that was going to be his final home at-bat at Yankee Stadium, some fans wanted to send him out with an earful.

You can't teach class. Can't buy it, either.

Derek Jeter to undergo surgery

Jeter will undergo surgery on his broken ankle this coming Saturday. Recovery period for this type of surgery is usually 4-6 months. If Derek takes his HGH as expected during the off-season, my guess is that he should be ready by February. One of the many benefits of HGH is that it speeds up healing. Can't wait to see Captain Jeter back in the Yankee lineup next spring. :thumb:
