why not? i think there was 5 teams that didnt try to sign him....... id say the guy would of been considered to be a top goalie on alot of those teams, both good and bad ;)

Exactly my point. No one at that stage of his career would be considered as any team's number 1 goalie. Except the Leafs of course. :p

And the Leafs were the lucky winners of the monster sweepstakes! I guess he signed there because he knew it would be the only team where he couldn't be blamed for any game he'd lose seeing as the team in front of him was so feeble. :p

But Roy was the second coming of Dryden who was the second coming of Plante. So that makes Price a fourth rate goalie. It's all relative isn't it? ;)

Yet, Carey Price was handed the job as #1 as soon as he made the Habs' team. Amazing!

(I laugh when i hear the airwaves claiming Halak is a #1........he's a #2 at best!)

You call it amazing, I call it ridiculous. He had way too much pressure put on him from the beginning and no goalie could have ever lived up to the hype. Halak could easily be a number 1 goalie on many teams in the league. He's definitely better by far than anyone on the Leafs' roster for example. But it's really pretty hard to judge him since he has never been given a fair shot playing for Gainey, who for some reason is convinced that Price is the single best hope for the habs future.

it's sad but the game has passed gainey by, it is not the same league anymore that made him a good gm in Dallas.......

CBC punishes Canada with Leaf crap!

After the Canucks / Wild game, the CBC decided to torture viewers with a replay of the Leafs game. In need of a good “Laff” I decided to watch. Here are a few of my thoughts as I watched the sad sack Maple Losers stay winless :

  • The Leafs are lucky they aren't getting called for goaltender interference for running Lundqvist.
  • Ponikarovsky - he's just a dumb hockey player.
  • Take Beauchemin off the powerplay - he cant pass or shoot
  • Beauchemin is a train wreck. If he wasnt a highly touted Burke aquisition he would be getting sat for Frogren
  • Stajan with a really really boneheaded play there on that Rangers goal – sums up the leafs season so far
  • Schenn just falls over trying to go into a corner...oh man...terrible. Has Schenn ever used a slapshot? Can he?
  • The Leafs are out of their league.. literally, they should be in the AHL
  • Marc Staal was just too strong for Finger and a weak play by MacDonald.
  • The Leafs should go back to playing dodgeball
  • Between Beauchemin's terrible pinches and terrible defensive play, Blake's continued selfish play, the Leafs inability to hit the net and Komisarek's undisciplined play – how can a roster like this be able to go over the cap.
  • Leaf fans should be worried about Schenn. He doesn't seem to be taking the necessary developmental steps to become an impact defenseman in the NHL. He doesn't hit much, plays what I would describe as "average" NHL defense, and is positively detrimental to offensive production. Not good signs.
  • Its the third week of October and the Detroit Lions have more wins than the Leafs.
  • Antropov with an assist on both Kovalchuk's goals tonight. Good thing Burke ran him out of town, considering the plethora of size and play-making talent the Leafs have up front.
  • Usually when a team is this bad, clearly destined for last overall and, at the very least, supposing the draft lottery goes their way, they look forward to getting the 1st overall pick. Burke has even taken that way from poor long suffering loser Leaf fans.
  • Look what happens when good goalies go to Toronto:
  • Raycroft - rookie of the year, turns to crap.
  • Toskala - played great for San Jose, turns to crap..
  • Kessel? You'd be a fool to think he's going to light it up on this pathetic Leaf squad like he did for Boston with Savard on his line. He'll be lucky to escape permanent damage to his confidence or a series of severe injuries as he is the main (only) semi decent offensive threat on a terrible leaf team. He’ll be skating around with a target painted on him.
  • Burke and Wilson? Highly-toutesd as Leaf saviours! Winning experience! The team is worse than ever with your picks traded away already.
  • Man, the Leafs have been terrible since the lockout but they’re even worse now - a team that gets outskated, outhustled, outmuscled, and just overall outworked in all three zones of the ice. They play the offensive game from the perimeter and have zero players in front of the net for their 40 foot wrist shots from the blueline/half-boards. They stand around in the defensive zone and play react defense instead of taking away passing lanes and like every other year, the forwards and defense don't work in unison on the breakout.
  • If Komisarek is worth 5M annually, then Kaberle should be making $15M. I've said it before but this will prove to be Burke's worst contract. Offensively he is going to top out at 10 points. He has a knack for stupid penalties.
  • Gasbag Burke has dug a deep, deep hole and will likely soon be forced to bury Wilson in it. Leaf fans had better hope that he trips as he kicks dirt in over Wilson and falls in himself.
  • Poor Ron Wilson - trying to make the best of what he has been handed and he has been handed a bunch of slow motion goons by the head buffoon.
  • The stats "are what they are". This is the worst team in the NHL. Period.

I watched it again & Ken Daneyko is the one who struggled & likely will be voted out tomorrow night. Domi had a pretty good routine, but not as good as Lemieux, Richer, Simpson & Duguay. Lemieux was once again great....his partner also looks great. I've actually always had a huge crush on Shae-Lynn Bourne! They actually look like a real figure skating team!

Richer surprised a lot of people tonight & he's improving each week. Simpson also skated great & to my surprise, Duguay got a lot of criticism (and lower scores) from the judges who said he should be pushing himself more. Sandra Bezic actually suggested he revert back to hockey skates in order to get his speed back. The guest judge tonight was George Strombolopoulos (The Hour) and he did a great job & didn't pull any punches.

I read an article about the show last night. It's an idea that Sandra Bezic came up with while watching Dancing with the Stars last year. No wonder the whole show is set up similarly. As for DWTS, my favorite this year is Natalie Caughlin. Very hot also!!! My favorite professional (I do miss Juliann Hough!) this season is Chelsea Hightower, but they paired her up with a midget! Michael Irvin has been barely surviving week after week. However, he's not to blame. His professional partner (Anna Deminova) is new to the show & it shows. Heck, i could come up with better & harder dance routines!!

Is it possible we could get back to Hockey once in awhile? face it GSG, your team has started out horribly like mine,,,,,, at least be man enough to suck up and realise this., i did expect this from your team, not mine but those are the way things go sometimes, it is what it is...... there are as many or more negative articles and fan forums about the habs but why would we need to post it? we all know both teams SUCK right now....... admit it and you will feel better and not as psychotic

Burke bravado backfires

What do the Maple Leafs' playoff hopes and Balloon Boy have in common? Both stories have a large measure of hot air and a whiff of hoax about them.

Big hit for the Bruins

Bruins lose Savard for 4 - 6 weeks. Bad news!!

Savard placed on injured reserve

Forward Marc Savard, the Bruins' leading scorer, has been placed on long-term injured reserve because of a broken left foot.
The Bruins did not say when Savard suffered the injury.
The Bruins recalled forward Trent Whitfield from Providence on an emergency basis.
Savard, who has four goals and three assists, will be out four to six weeks. He has led the Bruins in scoring each of the last three years, and did not miss a game last season while amassing 25 goals and 63 assists for 88 points.
Whitfield, 32, was signed as a free agent in July and has appeared in 177 NHL games with the Capitals, Rangers and Blues. He had three goals and eight assists in six games for Providence this season.

Quite true! The Penguins also lost Sergei Gonchar for at least 6 weeks due to a broken wrist. Several big-name stars are out for long-term injuries: Markov, Sedin, Kessel, Hossa, Savard & Gonchar.

Canadiens suspend Kostitsyn again

Young forward packed his things and bolted Montreal's AHL affiliate in Hamilton after Tuesday's game

Montreal Canadiens forward Sergei Kostistyn has again been suspended by the team after apparently bolting from its AHL affiliate in Hamilton.

The younger of the Habs' two Kostitsyn brothers had a brief holdout - for which he was suspended - after being sent to the minors at the end of training camp.

According to various media reports in Montreal, the 22-year-old Belarusian forward packed his gear and personal belongings after the Hamilton Bulldogs' game on Tuesday and decamped.

There were also unconfirmed sightings at Montreal's Trudeau airport - several Russian-language websites have reported in recent days that Kostitsyn had given the Habs an ultimatum to either call him up or he would accept one of three offers from the Russian Kontinental Hockey League.

Kostitsyn is in the final year of his entry-level NHL contract.
