iF Boston could afford Kova, then i could see this happening, but Boston is Cheap when it comes to paying their top talent and Kova as documented wants near $10 mil per..... wont happen likely.

Ribeiro to the Leafs? i Would Love that, but who are they looking to trade for him?

Souray wants out of Edmonton and he would fit in perfect with the Avalanche

Today's rumors around the NHL

-Atlanta's asking price for Ilya Kovalchuk are deemed to high by many teams; Boston sources have indicated that the Trashers wanted Boston's #1 pick that they obtained from the Leafs in the Phil Kessel trade.

-Mike Ribeiro might be heading to the Leafs, according to sources.

-Sheldon Souray might be traded to Colorado, which was one of his teams on his short list of teams to be traded to.

-?

the injury excuse again eh? like your "other" team, its old.

The Sens are a borderline playoff team, with or without Alfie and Spezza.... their D is what will most likely keep them out of the playoffs should they fail to make it...

And THIS was lggy's response to MY post on January 13. As always, his total lack of hockey knowledge is obvious, as the FACTS and STATS always prove!

Of course you'd love it - you and the guy you share the closet with (the world's two biggest closeted habs fans) always love to see ex-habs join the leafs. You rave about Komi, Doc dreams of Gomez and Price, and you're praying for Mickey Ribs. In the closeted universe you two leaflovers inhabit, it all makes perfect sense!

are you that insecure about yourself that in this, the "serious" hockey thread , all you can do is point out others faults and post to make yourself look good in the eyes of your buddy? in here thats a sign of insecurity for every post to be a slam at someone, and never do you post real hockey issues w/o the sarcasm, in the other threads thats not insecurity but playfull and funny.. what you do over in the other silly hockey threads is fair game but can you keep this one the way it was supposed to be, lets stay on topic here like we have been asked to do by the Mods, ok?

This was MY reply on January 13 to Doc's post about Ottawa being "as bad as the Leafs & Oilers". Gee I hate to brag, but maybe I was on the right track! Look at their record since Alfie and Spezza returned.

First of all, it's interesting to look at past history. You had no problem responding to my serious comment about Ottawa on January 13 in a negative fashion. Now, 17 days later, I am examining what has happened and analyzing the results of Doc's prediction, my response, and your expression of opinion - in other words, continuing what began as an interesting exchange on the merits of the Senators.

Second, some might say that your very words above (for example: "are you that insecure" "look good in the eyes of your buddy") are somewhat less than respectful - as they so often are. If you want rules, then I'm afraid you and the good Doctor should be following them also.

Third, I called out the good Doctor earlier in this thread for not following his own rules, and he basically replied that he was giving up - translation: the rules don't apply to him, since his posts are as disrespectful as anyone's.

I agree it would be nice to be civil, but that will involve you and your good friend learning some manners and admitting some truths.

look at your posting history in here, almost every post is a sarcastic slam, at least doc and i both post real hockey issues on a regular basis, and a couple habs fans as well..... but theres 2-3 hab fans who just cant follow the rules and thats childish and insecurity at its best.... now i asked in the last post to get back to what this thread is about, you could of easily been a man about it and agreed to it, but why oh why did i know you wouldnt? doc did this, i said that. he said she said, cmon, let it go and post something about the game we all love without silly comments and when you dont agree, so what, be the bigger man and keep on subject, it is really not that hard of a thing to do JC....

Foligno Breaks Leg, Cammalleri injures Knee

Saturday's Senators/Canadiens matchup was potentially a very costly affair for both teams, with Sens forward Nick Foligno and Habs forward Mike Cammalleri both lost to injury.

Ottawa won the game 3-2 and notched a team-record ninth straight victory, but Foligno broke his leg and will reportedly be out for 6-8 weeks.

That happened just over a minute after Cammalleri had injured his right knee as the result of a collision with Anthon Volchenkov with seven minutes to go.

Foligno has eight goals and 15 assists in 47 games with the Sens, who will look to win their tenth straight game when they take on the Sabres on Wednesday.

Cammalleri, meanwhile, has been solid for the Canadiens after being acquired in the off-season, putting up 26 goals and 21 assists in 55 games

Burke's chances of landing any impact UFA's = 0

Here’s one you can call your bookie with: The Leafs’ chances of landing either Ilya Kovalchuk or Patrick Marleau via trade or free agency before next season are roughly the same as the club going 24-3-1 in its remaining 28 games

Why would either of the two most coveted potential free agents even consider joining the mess right now in this city? Apart from the fact Kovalchuk has absolutely no interest in coming to Toronto, and that Marleau would play for 28 other coaches before re-uniting with Ron Wilson, there will be several options available to each man that are much more appealing than the Leafs. The same applies to just about any unrestricted player on the market next summer.

Toronto doesn't want any of those free agents. They'll be way too expensive & their respective teams haven't won anything with them in their lineups. Marleau is having his best season so far....no wonder: he's playing on the same line as Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton. Even Rickard Wallin would be having a career year if he'd be playing on that line!

But unlike the scabbies, the Leafs have a lot of cap room to play with as they continue to rebuild for the future. The scabbies are capped out & are backed up against a wall as some are finally realizing that the team will have to go into rebuilding mode if they want to be a contender once again. Quick fixes like hiring the munchkins and giving them big long-term contracts simply doesn't work.

Word around the Mtl media last night had Mtl possibly trying to deal with the Leafs for the likes of Matt Stajan & Alex Ponikarovski in return for either a goalie or a #1 pick (or two #2's). There's still hope by some that the Habs will deal with Philly, but considering how good Philly has been playing lately, i doubt it...unless Mtl is willing to deal either Halak or Price. But word around the league is that Mtl is asking too much for Price & that Halak would be the likely candidate to be traded.

Leafs set to acquire Jiggy!!

TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired veteran goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere from the Anaheim Ducks, pending his approval, a source told ESPN.com.

As of 11:30 a.m. ET, Giguere had not yet waived his no-trade clause but a source close to the situation expected he would.

Goalie Vesa Toskala would be headed from Toronto to Anaheim as part of the deal and there may be other parts to this trade as well, the source said.

Giguere has one year left on his deal next season at $7 million while Toskala, earning $4 million this year, will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.

(I've just heard that the deal includes Anaheim sending its 1st round pick to the Leafs, which hasn't been confirmed yet)

Leafs acquire Dion Phaneuf from Calgary!!

Leafs fans better get used to seeing Elisha Cuthbert around the ACC in the very near future:

Two teams in dire need of a shakeup have done just that, as the Calgary Flames have shipped defenceman Dion Phaneuf to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Details of who the Flames get in return are still unknown.

When asked if forwards Mat Stajan and Niklas Hagman were main components in the Phaneuf deal, a source told TSN, "it's bigger than that."

Drafted by the Flames in the 1st round (9th overall) in 2003, Phaneuf has 10 goals and 12 assists with a plus- 3 rating in 55 games this season.

Mired in its worst slump (0-6-3) since an 11-game losing streak in 1986, the Flames got on the winning side of the tracks Saturday night in defeating the Edmonton Oilers in the Battle of Alberta.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a dramatic 5-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday evening. The Canucks overcame a three-goal first period deficit to extend a season-high win streak to seven.

With Saturday's loss, coupled with Carolina's 4-2 victory over Chicago, Toronto now sits 29th in the NHL standings. The Hurricanes and Leafs are tied in points with 45 but Carolina is ahead because of more wins.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=308469

(I just heard that Toronto would be sending Matt Stajan & Ian White for Phaneuf and a prospect)

Leafs/Ducks trade not official yet, but.....

A press conference is imminent. But the last rumors were that Anaheim was shipping JS Giguere & their #1 pick for Vesa Toskala & Jason Blake.

THE FAN 590 just said that Brian Burke should be immediately annointed as the leagues Executive-of-the-Year if that rumor is true!!

They also said that the Calgary fans should burn the arena after how the Flames got hoodwinked into making that trade....an all-star defenceman and a high prospect (Keith Aulie....6'6 and 210 lbs still playing in junior...some say he's a Chris Pronger clone) for a bunch of nobodies where most of them will be free agents after this season.

Leafs/Ducks trade now official

The Leafs trade Vesa Toskala & Jason Blake to Anaheim for JS Giguere.

Brian Burke just said in his press conference that a #1 pick was never discussed & doesn't know how that rumor started.

This is a fantastic trade for the Leafs!!!! :D

With this trade, Leafs will have tons of cap money left after this season once the unrestricted free agents are off the books. Now if they can only find some sucker to take on Jeff Finger's contract.....

I'm curious what Mtl will do if Cammalleri is off for the rest of the season.....who will score the goals for them? Is there a goal scorer available out there?

Another desperate move by Gasbag Burke as the shitty Leafs sit in 29th place in the l

Blowhard Burke has proven once again why he is the most over-rated G.M. in the league by adding another overpaid, underachieving defenseman, and trading away 1/3 of their offense and 46 goals in the process. Toronto is in the toilet and that’s where they’ll stay.

Phaneuf (a mental nutcase added to the Leafs comedy show) is poison in the dressing room and it will be 10X worse in Toronto under Wilson. At least Phaneuf can get an early start on his golf game.

Phaneuf, Schenn and Komi: you can call them the pop-tarts since there'll be so many turn-overs.

As for Giggy – he’s washed up and done (a $6M back up)

Burke has no clue how to mange the cap

A quick check of the numbers: Toronto has approx. $44M committed to next season's cap with these players signed:

1 goalie and 7 D (TOTAL = $32.151M)

Phaneuf $6.5M
Komi $4.5M
Kaberle $4.25M
Beauchemin $3.8M
Finger $3.5M
Schenn $2.975M
Gunnarson 0.626M
Giggy $6.0M

5 forwards (TOTAL = $11.556M)

Kessel $5.4M
Grabovski $2.9M
Bozak $1.756
Orr $1M
Roseweed $0.5M

So about 9 players remaining (8 forwards and a backup) and about $15 M in cap space. Virtually no room to add anyone of significance at all. Prediction: Toronto will finish in the bottom 5 again.

Coincidently that’s exactly what you said back in July about Burke’s off season moves - remember, before you deleted all those posts. BTW, how have those moves worked out so far?
