Blowhard Burke is panicking - he knows Boston is going to get another very high pick next June.

This is an organization in trouble, and it’s not just the fact that the team has all but stopped functioning, with one win in its last 11 games.[/I]

Excellent link as usual GHG...but to be honest the one you provided in the No Truth Allowed thread was even better. I am referring, of course, to the much-needed grammar lesson you generously gave to the board's self-described "Old Fart".

"He's not ready to play in the top six (forwards) right just yet." -- Brian Burke, Toronto Maple Leafs GM, Oct. 5

I guess he's ready now?

Quite obviously - except to the morons who believe in the Leafs - Burkie was either wrong a month ago or he's wrong now. Maybe it's time to remove the halo his witless supporters have placed so undeservingly on his egomaniacal, incompetent head.

Burke may talk a good game but he is directing the Leafs back to last (their rightful?) place

http://communities.canada.com/vanco...-leafs-back-to-last-their-rightful-place.aspx

the Leafs will be added to Burke’s list of failures whenever he decides to leave Toronto.

The whole article is truly great, but this was my favorite part: "He likes coaches who follow his dictum—like himself Ron Wilson is obstinate, arrogant, and aggressive, and quick to blame others when mistakes happen. For Wilson the fault usually falls on the players, or the fans, or the media—but never with Burke’s plan."

Coincidentally the highly accurate descriptions of Burke's and Wilson's chief characteristics (obstinate, arrogant, aggressive, quick to blame others) are also accurate descriptions of Leaf fans.

Note that even in this board, for example, there is a thread devoted to the Leafs. Now, that's fine - no problem if Leaf fans want a thread to discuss their chosen squad. The problem occurs when they are so paranoid, thin-skinned, and authoritarian (in fact, can you say fascist?) - and in such denial - that they refuse to allow any negative comments about their beloved Leafs.

I wonder if these guys go to the doctor for a checkup and begin by saying, "Just give me the good news, Doc. If you say anything negative (lose weight, stop smoking, get more exercise - or, heaven forbid: you have symptoms of some disease), I will walk out, never return, and take my business to another doctor."

Did you say doctor ? I thought more in the range of a psy !
Oh well you could always say Doctor Phill I suppose !

Okay I'm gonna take a crazy bet here (once in a while I do just for fun) and I'll bet... lets say 50 that I'll see Doc or Igna on a doctor Phill talking about how they were cheated by the leafs after so many years of loyal devotion !

How about that ?

Please don't pick on lggy. Let's give him full credit for a remark he made many times that has proven to be totally accurate. He said - and remember that lggy and lggy alone deserves full credit for this excellent prediction - he said, and I quote: "The Leafs and the Habs are two teams going in completely different directions." The man was right, so let's give him our respect.

And while we're handing out compliments, let's congratulate Phil Kessel on his latest amazing scoring streak.

After going without a single point for seven straight games, the "merging superstar" is now on fire with a fabulous scoring streak of one goal (sorry, no assists) in his most recent game - that goal being TO's second in their 5-3 loss to the Canucks.

That's about where the compliments come to an end for the sorry-ass Leafs who now have one lonely win in their last twelve games (that "win" of course being the game stolen from the Panthers by a horrible call) and eight consecutive losses.

Maybe the title Canada's National Embarrassment isn't quite strong enough - how about North America's Continental Embarrassment? Nah, even though it's true, it doesn't roll off the tongue quite so smoothly, so let's just stick with the understatement of Canada's National Embarrassment. Whatever you call them, the fact is the Leafs suck!

I just bought a new dictionary and looked up the definition for the word "wretched". It said to look under "Toronto Maple Leafs". Good dictionary!

The sorry ass Leafs are now 27th in the NHL. A NYI win will knock them down further. There is nothing Burke can do - he and this farce of a franchise are completely screwed!

Leaf fans - BOTH of them - must be rejoicing over this remarkable improvement on last year's 29th place finish.

However, as one of the two fans is so fond of saying: "It's a long season" - so I hope they are not counting their chickens just yet.

And let's give credit where it is due: the same fan has pointed out on more than one occasion that this is now truly Burke's team...so Burkie is the man who deserves MOST of the credit for this outstanding leap all the way up to 27th place.

I thought I read or heard somewhere that under the genius and leadership of Burke that the leafs were going to be in playoff contention and make a serious run at a cup within 2 years...?!? Aren't we part way through year one?

Is it me or is 29th to 27th a baby step? With a L O N G way to go...

Well, hockey is not my primary passion in sports...but by the numbers...looks likes Burke's plan is working like a charm...

  • Gustavsson's Save % ranking: 37th

Let's add some other key observations:

Ron Wilson: most hated coach in the league
Brian Burke: biggest ego in the league without the results to back it up
Phil Kessel: most likely to disappear when the pressure is on
Dion Phaneuf: most overrated player in the entire league as officially voted on by all NHL players!
Mike Komisaruk: most gutless "fighter" in the league (just ask Milan Lucic)
Dion Phaneuf: biggest disappointment as a "fighter" (just ask Nathan Horton)
Leaf fans: most gullible dumb-asses in all of sports, predicting greatness at the start of every season and witnessing bottom dwellers at the end of every season
Leaf fans part two: biggest suckers, with sellouts at all Leaf games despite the boring and inept Leaf performances for 43 freakin' years!
And...honorable mention to Colton "Glass Jaw" Orr. A famous commercial line says "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'" but in this goon's case it's "takes ONE punch and crumples to the ice."

Where I belong.
The Habs vs. The Hapless

I've seen a lot of hockey games in my time, but I don't think I've ever seen a team get as soundly thrashed as my beloved Leafs did tonight. Jeez, the puck must've spent 50 minutes in the Toronto end. I sure am glad I didn't drop an hour's worth of Elena's time on that game.

Not sure which game you were watching Rumples? The Habs were lucky to escape with a W tonight. Had it not been for the open net misses and numerous posts getting clanged by the Leafs they should have won by at least 2. I watched the game on the NHL Network and no way did the Habs thrash the Leafs and that's an unbiased point of view.
