I think it's a far thing to say that Trump lost all common sense during COVID in 2020. The man went off the range. We can nitpick about what he said and what he didn't (bleach, etc.). But at a high level, we can all agree he didn't do a great job as a leader. It's why Trump lost the election - because many centrists and moderate Republicans lost confidence in his ability to lead. We were led to believe that Biden could be a light-touch caretaker. Not fuck things up too badly, not make too many big changes, just get us through COVID.
But then, the idiot got into office and believed the American populace gave him a mandate to be the next FDR.
If Biden didn't so royally fuck up the country with his retardedly-named "Inflation Reduction Act" (which did anything but), woke initiatives and idiotic foreign policy, Trump wouldn't be back in office.
A lot of us, myself included, voted for Trump this cycle, holding our nose, and as a rebuke to the liberals. If the Democrats didn't let the radical wing of their party lead them by the nose, they may have actually had a chance to hold onto power. But, like everywhere else in the world, the Left in the US fucked up. Horribly. And these conservatives wins are just a natural reaction to that fuckup.
And it opened a sliver for many voters to look back at 2016-2020, and think, minus 2020, the first Trump Administration was pretty damn good for most Americans. If you just looked at 2016-2019, Trump would've been re-elected. So, come back to now, many Americans, again myself included, are just hoping for more of the 2016-2019 Trump, and less of the 2020 version. Competency, less woke, less DEI, less dumb sheep shit.
