Tired of fast food.

Getting tired of McDs and Burger King, I am looking for alternatives to fast food. Here are some of my discoveries.

There is a Chinese restaurant at the plaza Cote de neige that offers some pretty good stuff, easy parking in the back.

I also like the Chiken Pitas at Morelatos grocery store, ( On Sauve ) They have a take out counter in the back.

What are you fast food alternative discoveries?

I've been to Quiznos in TO and found it to be better than the regular fast food joint that you refer to in your post.
I'm also thinking of Subway has an alternative, you can get a good meal low in fat and calories.

Yes, you are right. That is the Adonis grocery store. If you are talking about the one on Sauve near L'Acadie. They have a take out counter in the back where you can get all sorts of food to take out. I have had the chicken in the pita, pork in pita.and sausage in pita. I have also seen a road kill chicken that they sell. It is a flattened chicken that has been BBQ ed. They let you take it out in a pizza box.

After some research on the net about calories, fat and salt % in sub at quiznos I stopped to go.

Hi Wilko,

I understand how my post could be confusing vis a vis the calories vs taste.
You are right the Quiznos sandwiches have fat and salt content, but taste wise, I think it's a better choice then BK or McD's.
I did not want to imply that the Quiznos was better in calories and fat but only taste,
but if you choose wisely some of the Subway sandwiches are low in calories and fat.

I tried Harvey's on Peel. Yuk! I was disappointed. Maybe I should try their Angus stuff next time.

So my favourite fast food burger is still Five Guys in the States.

I like Wendy's as opposed to Bk and McD's, but in Montreal, the closest Wendy's is way out on the West Island. Too far.

However, in Montreal, there are so many mom-and-pop places to try out, you don't need the big chains.

If by fast food, you mean places where you don't have to tip, there are numerous food courts in the malls downtown, with standard fare, Asian, Lebanese, Italian, etc.

I wouldn't bother with a good burger in Montreal; too many other kinds of foods to try.

I agree that Subway would be a great choice. I'm not too fond of Quiznos though but maybe it's just the one near my place that isn't good.

Their food probably has a lot of fat because they cook it in oil but at least, you can get many vegetables, tofu, etc.

If you want some fast food that's considerably more healthy than the average stuff, check out Teriyaki Experience in most food courts. Fresh food, decent value for the buck and it can be considered low cal when compared to the average burger joint.

When compared to a small Tuna Melt at Quizno's which has 55.5 grams of fat , a Teriyaki chicken meal has only 2.5!

Or if you're downtown, you could always check out Wok Cafe for a great variety of combo meals under $10, soup & tax included, that beat the hell out of anything you can get at Harveys, Burger King or any other fast food dump.

Panera Bread

I don't know if it has made its way to Quebec yet, but Panera Bread is a chain of restaurants that has taken Connecticut by storm and has rapidly spread. It's fast food, mainly deli sandwiches made from an assortment of fresh baked specialty breads like foccacia and ciabatta. The sandwich menu is here:

The sandwiches are a little more expensive than normal fast food, and the reason why is you are paying a premium for the freshly baked delicious specialty breads from which they make their sandwiches. I was thinking that the concept might go over well with some French Canadian consumers who respect quality bread products and might be willing to pay a little more for a sandwich made on freshly baked foccacia or ciabatta. Certainly, a Panera Bread would be an excellent replacement for the soon to be closed Hard Rock Cafe, creating yet another diverse food choice in the Crescent Street area. I can see both tourists and locals converging on this place.

By the way, I ate lunch at one of their CT locations today and had the smoked turkey & artichoke sandwich. Wait time is equal to McDonald's and every sandwich is served with your choice of kettle-cooked potato chips, a whole fresh apple or a piece of fresh baked bread.

I suspect I can get Breadman to go to this place, despite the prices.

Now they are franchised, and flourishing !!
