No need for toilet paper if people learned to wash their butt. Lota and similar contraptions are used in South Asia and Middle East for anal cleansing. Bidets are more convenient, of course, but they're also expensive.

Got a 12 rolls pack at my local Jean Coutu. I had to ask a clerk because the shelf was empty, been told they get them out only on demand.
