If Biden appeal to very ordinary people, how do you qualify the people that are appealed by Trump?
Trump is a loser (2018, 2020, 2021, 2022), so I guess he appeals to losers, maybe?

...Since his unlikely victory in 2016 against the widely disliked Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump has a perfect record of electoral defeat. The GOP was pounded in the 2018 midterms owing to his low approval rating. Mr. Trump himself lost in 2020. He then sabotaged Georgia’s 2021 runoffs by blaming party leaders for not somehow overturning his defeat. That gave Democrats control of the Senate, letting President Biden pump up inflation with a $1.9 trillion Covid bill, appoint a liberal Supreme Court Justice, and pass a $700 billion climate spending hash.

Now Mr. Trump has botched the 2022 elections, and it could hand Democrats the Senate for two more years. Mr. Trump had policy successes as President, including tax cuts and deregulation, but he has led Republicans into one political fiasco after another.

“We’re going to win so much,” Mr. Trump once said, “that you’re going to get sick and tired of winning.” Maybe by now Republicans are sick and tired of losing.

To do so, they need characters like Trump and DeSantis.
if you can’t see a difference between Trump and DeSantis, you’re blind.

I prefer DeSantis to Trump certainly, and I think he has done a reasonable job in Florida, particularly with respect to Covid restrictions...if it is DeSantis, and he is a competent asshole, fine...

I prefer DeSantis to Trump certainly, and I think he has done a reasonable job in Florida, particularly with respect to Covid restrictions.

However, I saw no reason for his punitive Disney move. Disney makes decisions as a company, many of which are indeed stupid, but should not be of interest to politicians.

But like Trump, DeSantis cannot resist simply getting involved with high-profile issues egged on by the media.

That concerns me. It may be intelligent of him to do so to get votes. With the feminization, political correctness, and never-ending move to the left by the Democrats, a Republican can get a lot of male votes by being a bit of an asshole. But that means he needs to keep being a bit of an asshole to keep their interest. I prefer the John Kasich types, but they get no traction. When you aren’t a woman, a minority, an asshole, or as you pointed out in a post above, a Disabled Person like Fetterman, the media won’t pay any attention to you as a candidate. Biden wasn’t any of those, but the media realized it had fucked up by centering so much attention on Trump the Asshole and Hillary the Woman, that it got someone elected who, in my opinion, was marginally dangerous. Not that Hillary was anything great. But the media at least acknowledged Biden as a result of its mistake with Trump, and they liked that he was gaffe prone, and now they probably secretly like the fact that he can’t remember who is alive and who is dead. It makes good news, and people watch. They have 24 hours of entertainment for the masses to fill up.

DeSantis might be able to straddle the line between being enough of an asshole to get attention, while still being competent. I hope so, if he is elected, since I kind of want a President who is functional. I am okay with a woman or minority who is functional if it is a Democrat as President, but that certainly isn’t Kamala Harris, and there is no simple way to remove her from contention. The only feasible way is for Biden to decide to run in the Primary and be defeated by some maverick Democrat governor who wasn’t Chosen by the Left Wing Media, while Kamala had to sit out the Primary due to loyalty. If Kamala runs in the primary and loses to a man, the Democrats run the real risk of women being pissed and not showing up in the general election. The Democrats continue to do so poorly with the male vote, particularly in rural America, that they simply can’t win without winning an overwhelming percentage of the female vote.

if it is DeSantis, and he is a competent asshole, fine. But I haven’t seen him cater to the likable, but small, Libertarian wing of the Republican Party. Maybe I have missed something. I will try to watch him with an open mind. From a social issues policy perspective, I prefer the old 1970s liberal Democrat platform. But there are so few of those Democrats left in the party, that what the Democrats once stood for might be irrelevant.
I agree with you and CaptainRenault. I am routing for DeSantis. He is the only and most sensible choice. He did the right thing with covid mandates and not imposed any. He is also not promoting the weird crazy ideas of the far-left like homosexuality, multiple genders, the feminization of men, feminism, and the list goes on. Leftism is a disease.

It’s way too early for a conversation about the 2024 presidential election. So many things can happen before then. The only reason this stupid thread was started was because there wasn’t enough Trump bashing in all the other threads and it was decided that another one was necessary. Let’s assume for a second that this thread was really started because of the 2024 election. There are two maybe three parties that are going to run. The dems got a pass on the mid term elections by convincing everyone that abortion rights are more important than anything else and they should be congratulated once again. Just like in 2020, they ran a better campaign than the Republicans. But, with inflation at a 40 year high, gas prices through the roof, crime getting out of control, 401k’s in the toilet, etc. these will be the issues come 2024. Let’s also not forget about Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China. They will all test Biden and he will fail. So enjoy the mid term election results while you still can. Although NY didn’t elect a different governor, the individual counties spoke loudly for change. COVID won’t be able to keep you locked up in your house anymore, the crime rate will do that. 401k not quite where it was during the previous administration? Suck it up and keep working till your 75. Can’t heat your house because the costs are through the roof? Wear a sweater. Mortgage rates too high? Live in your parents basement. Don’t care about illegal immigrants? Ask the speakers husband Mr. Pelosi how he feels about that. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. When 2024 rolls around we will hopefully correct this nightmare.

I prefer DeSantis to Trump. But I don’t like DeSantis.

Leftism is indeed a terrible disease, but so is Media Sensationalism.

And letting Oprah have a big say in who is President.

Give me someone boring who is a policy wonk with legislative experience and a wide variety of life experiences.

Someone like Gerald Ford.

I wish it was just an American disease. What did the Canadian Drama Teacher do other than teaching and having a famous dad?
You just cannot do worse then Trudeau, you guys south are lucky to not have have a left-wing nut Socialist in power, a comparison to Trudeau would be AOC or Sanders both Socialist nutcases. Agreed for media sensationalism, often they are pushing the political agenda of the party they are aligned with.

You are kidding, right.

I sort of respect that as First Lady she did imply that most people are too fucking fat and she grew a vegetable garden for inspiration.

Now she is helping others cope with menopause.

But doesn’t being President require some legislative and/or leadership experience?

Barrack did serve as a state senator and U.S. senator first.
LOL Did Trump have any experience in governing for real!

Only a right-wing extremist would consider being a liberal a disease. Physician, heal thyself.

I never wrote that Liberal was a disease, I wrote that leftism was a disease. That is the thing. There is nothing Liberal about the Liberals. In Canada the Liberal party is Liberal by name but in reality it is a Socialist party. A party that imposes covid mandates is not Liberal at all. Trudeau is a left-wing extreminist. You guys in the US are lucky to have Biden as he is well balanced, not a left wing maniac like Trudeau. You guys are lucky that Sanders or AOC did not take over. But DeSantis would be the best option. He did not impose any covid mandates and he understands that freedom is more important then security.

Don't call leftism a disease either. It's not. That kind of hate talk will produce a candidate like trump. By the way, DeSantis is just a better-educated and shrewder version of trump. He's divisive and incites every 'culture war' issue - real or imagined - to play to his MAGA base. He campaigned for Election LIARS and abortion extremists Lake, Masters, Vance, and Mastriano.

Let me put it this way, anything to the extreme is not good and leftism is indeed a disease. It is funny you mention hate talk because we got a few on this board who hate on Trump all day and made multiple threads. Trudeau is the most divisive of them all and incited many culture war, he used vaccine mandates to score political points then used abortion to score more political points. Only point is since both are bad one has to choose the better of two evils. DeSantis did right to not impose covid mandates and did right to discourage homosexuality. It is so bad to be educating young kids on gender identity and sexual orientation, leave the kids out of it (stop the indoctrination, these are things left to the parents to talk to with their kids) and stop promoting homosexuality (in this way I say leftism is a disease including their need to control as in covid mandates and using wokeness to manipulate, and taxing everyone to the max to redistribute income).
