This is the 2024 presidential run thread, I'm sure your familiar with the location of the future president of the US hatred thread. Maybe you can help your buddy find it as well.
Who do you think will be the next president?

I think Brandon will step down for “medical reasons” if the GOP wins as many seats as anticipated in November. Having Harris become the president won‘t really mean much because nothing could get passed. It would create an interesting 2024 though. I’m pretty sure the Dems wouldn’t want her to run for President because nobody would vote for her. So then who will be the one stepping up?
Not Biden he is too old.

Ideally I will see Michelle Obama.

I agree that Michelle Obama would be a good pick for the Dems. I said that back on #316. Good name recognition, hasn't been elected before so there is no voting history to criticize, natural leader, etc.

I agree with you, I wrote this just to see what you would say.

I would say that is an impossible question to answer. Who do you think will be the next president in 2024?

My prediction is

a) it is not someone that should be in a nursing home
b) it is not someone that should be in jail

But this is Merica, so a&b may not be limiting factors.

Liz Cheney is no longer a member of Congress.

She has been easily defeated by attorney Harriet Hageman in the Republican primary for Wyoming's sole congressional seat.:(

Cheney concedes primary race, says she will do all she can to keep Trump away from presidency.

Rep. Liz Cheney conceded the race in the Wyoming Republican primary for her House seat on Tuesday, but has promised to continue fighting against what she says are efforts to “destroy” American democracy, and her continued efforts to oppose former President Donald Trump.

“Two years ago, I won this primary with 73% of the vote. I could easily have done the same again, the path was clear. But it would have required that I go along with President Trump's lie about the 2020 election,” Cheney told a crowd of supporters in Wyoming.

Cheney won only 29 percent of the vote in the primary, defeated by her opponent Harriet Hageman, a ranching industry attorney, who earned 66 percent of the vote on the back of an endorsement from Trump.

Cheney has been one of Trump’s most vocal critics within the Republican Party and has had a prominent role on the Jan. 6 Committee which is holding hearings on the former president’s part in the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
She said winning her primary as she did in 2020 would have required ignoring Trump’s role in the attacks on American democracy.

“It would have required that I enable his ongoing efforts to unravel our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic. That was a path I could not and would not take.”

Cheney ended her speech by promising to continue to “do whatever it takes to ensure Donald Trump is never again anywhere near the Oval Office.”:)

...The Florida governor won a smashing blowout Tuesday by routing Democrat Charlie Crist by nearly 19 points, a margin that no poll predicted. He followed that with a raucous speech that was both a celebration and a skillfully worded test of national themes as he declared, “Florida is where woke goes to die.”

...Suddenly, 2024 doesn’t feel so far away. Nor does Trump look like the only choice or the inevitable nominee.

In that sense, the night was a coming-out party for DeSantis, who has been wary of talking about anything other than re-election. He won narrowly four years ago, but his margin Tuesday will garner enormous attention among Republicans desperate for an alternative to Trump.

Naturally, all this is driving Trump further up a wall. As DeSantis closed in on victory in recent days, Trump began sniping from the sidelines, making veiled threats that he had dirt on DeSantis and warning him not to run in ’24.

It was a shameful spectacle, and yet so par for the course that it garnered mostly shrugs. Trump also probably aimed to reduce DeSantis’ margin of victory and thus reduce the threat to himself for the GOP nomination...

...Saturday night at a Pennsylvania rally, just three days before the midterms, Trump launched an attack on “Ron DeSanctimonious” and later used an interview to threaten his putative rival: “If he did run, I will tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering. I know more about him than anybody other than perhaps his wife, who is really running his campaign.”

Trump’s detractors say it is a sign of his fatal ill-discipline that he inserted himself into the last days of the campaign, reminding wavering independents or Dems why they didn’t vote for him in 2020.

But Trump clearly didn’t care. He wants to goad DeSantis into running. Don has said he relishes the prospect of fighting a big stable of GOP candidates in 2024 in a knock-down, drag-out WWE spectacular. Send in your best prize fighter, Mitch McConnell, and The MAGA King will best him.

That might freak out the establishment, but really, it’s the only way to resolve the party’s “Trump problem.”

In nature, the young alpha buck always challenges the old dominant buck for territory and breeding rights.

Human politics is just as primal. Trump has laid claim to a good portion of the Republican base. They are not limpets but humans, and they understand the law of the jungle as well as anyone.

DeSantis has shown strategic common sense, courage and a thick hide in his various battles as governor. If you were choosing a WWE fighter, he easily is a match for Trump, who will be 78 at the next presidential election.

And if DeSantis sits on the sidelines, maybe he doesn’t have what it takes to be president in hard times. In politics, you don’t have the luxury of choosing your moment and 2028 may not suit him.

But if DeSantis does take on Trump and wins, he will be invincible in 2024.

Now that Joe Biden personally saved democracy, he has a lot to think about it. Should he run for reelection in 2024? One certainly hopes that he will. But if he doesn't it's reassuring to know that the team of Democrats who would like to replace him is more than capable of matching Joe's unique ability to appeal to ordinary, indeed very ordinary, people.

Now thanks to the brilliant insights of MSNBC's crack team of political analysts (including America's favorite ginger, Jen Pswsocki) a new name is being floated as a 2024 democrat candidate for president. And it's none other than John Fetterman, America's favorite former small town mayor (well, after Pete Boutygudge). As Ginger Jen says in this video, Fetterman "ran as exactly who he is." I couldn't have said it better myself, Jen.

Good luck to Fetterman as he begins his career on the national scene. John if you think a brain damaged guy like you can't become president, just watch the current holder of the office and you will start believing in your ability to take the next big step in your political career. Good luck, big guy! #Fetterman2024

Ya i can totally see Fetterman as a possible Democratic Presidential candidate.

But also...I like to give a shoutout to newly elected Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro as another possible candidate.

Some political observers view him as a future star for the Democrats. I personally think he's got some mojo and can fire up a crowd.

Any Democrat would be better than any Republican. At least the Democrats are not traitors.

If Biden appeal to very ordinary people, how do you qualify the people that are appealed by Trump?
